Fantasy Football Week 2 Projections for Waiver Wire Players: Shough, Shakir, and More

Several widely available players stand out as potential fantasy football waiver wire additions for Week 2.

Quarterbacks

Tampa Bay's Baker Mayfield is projected for 19 fantasy points in a clash with the Browns in Week 2.

Mayfield is currently sitting at 69.73% owned, so those needing QB help in Week 2 could possibly add him. The Browns' defense was ripped apart by Trevor Lawrence and the Jaguars in Week 1, so it looks like a pretty good matchup on paper.

New Orleans' Tyler Shough is projected for 19 fantasy points in a battle against the Ravens. He looked good in the team's overtime loss to Detroit in Week 1.

Baltimore was stout against Indy though, allowing just 166 passing yards across 31 attempts. We'll see if Shough can deliver again this coming week and establish himself as a pretty good fantasy asset.

Running Backs

There's not many running backs who are projected for big weeks. The first who is available in a decent amount of leagues is Tennessee's Tyjae Spears.

He's set for nine PPR points against the Eagles, who are a tougher test on backs usually. Spears played 50% of the Titans' offensive snaps in Week 1, but only managed five touches and 24 yards. Still, he's a solid fantasy asset being part of a split backfield.

San Francisco's Kaelon Black is part of a big group of running backs who are projected for seven PPR points this week.

He has a test against the Dolphins, who were gashed by RBs in Week 1. Black was more involved than many expected for the Niners in the first game, so he's one of the bigger RB waiver wire adds already. Throw in a good matchup and Black becomes even more appealing.

Baltimore's Justice Hill, Green Bay's Chris Brooks, Houston's Woody Marks and Arizona's Tyler Allgeier are other RBs projected for seven PPR points in Week 2.

Wide Receivers

Buffalo's Khalil Shakir is projected for 12 PPR points against the Lions. The teams play on Thursday, so if you want to add and start Shakir, make sure you do it before then.

The Buffalo wideout was solid in Week 1, catching four of his six targets for 50 yards. He only played 53% of the offensive snaps, so if that number improves, Shakir could really deliver big. The Lions allowed wideouts to go for 293 yards and a score across 20 receptions and 26 targets in Week 1, so it's a good matchup for Shakir too.

San Francisco's Deebo Samuel Sr. is set for 12 points against the Dolphins. Miami only gave up 83 yards and a score across nine catches and 16 targets in Week 1, but the Niners' offense and pass catchers are much better talents, so I don't mind the matchup.

Throw in that Samuel went for 60 total yards and a touchdown across seven touches and he's an even better waiver wire/streaming option. One thing to note is that he only played 42% of the team's offensive snaps, so if he can get on the field more, even more production is possible.

Kansas City's Xavier Worthy, Carolina's Jalen Coker and Jacksonville's Jakobi Meyers are among the wideouts projected for 11 PPR points this week.

Tight Ends

The fantasy tight ends with the highest projections who are available in a decent amount of leagues are all projected for nine PPR points.

New England's Hunter Henry is one of them. He has the Steelers in Week 2.

Pittsburgh didn't allow a tight end to make a catch in Week 1, and they faced Kyle Pitts Sr., so the matchup is certainly tough. Henry didn't do a ton in Week 1, but with A.J. Brown out, the veteran tight end might be asked to do a bit more.

Minnesota's T.J. Hockenson is set for nine points against the Bears in Week 2. Hockenson had a solid fantasy outing in Week 1, capped with a touchdown grab.

The Bears allowed tight ends to go for 62 yards on six grabs and nine targets in Week 1, so Hockenson has a decent outlook this coming week. The issue is the uncertainty at quarterback for the Vikings, but Hockenson delivered with Carson Wentz, so if you're in need of a TE, consider Hockenson.

New Orleans' Juwan Johnson is another TE set for nine fantasy points. He takes on the Ravens in Week 2.

The Ravens allowed just 13 yards, but gave up a TD to a TE in Week 1. Johnson went for 54 yards and a score across three grabs and seven targets in the opener, so he is a TE on the rise. I really like Johnson and think he's worth trying, especially if you could use some TE help.

Washington's Chig Okonkwo is the last TE set for nine PPR points, but he's dealing with an injury, which clouds things for him.

His matchup is against Dallas, which allowed 87 yards and two touchdowns across nine catches and targets to TEs in Week 1. So if Okonkwo is cleared to play, he could be a sneaky-good option in Week 2.
