Week 16 Thursday Fantasy Football Outlook for the Seahawks: Kenneth Walker, Rashid Shaheed, Sam Darnold and More
Looking over the top fantasy football options for Seattle heading into the week 16 Thursday night game.
We just went over the Rams in trending fantasy football start/sit decisions, so now it's time to discuss the Seahawks.
For the first time that I can remember, there's no players from a team playing on a Thursday night. I wouldn't be surprised if Seahawks work their way into the start/sit tool here before the game kicks off, so check back later.
So instead of breaking down the players in trending decisions, we are instead going to go over the top fantasy football assets for Seattle.
Also be sure to check out the DFS lineup for tonight's game.
Having trouble deciding who to start? Let the FantasySP start/sit tool help you make a decision.
Sam Darnold Fantasy Outlook
Darnold has had a pretty solid season in his first year with Seattle.
He's been up and down as a fantasy asset though, alternating above-average and below-average fantasy finishes over the past five contests.
Darnold has a slightly below-average test coming tonight against the Rams. He had a horrendous showing the last time the teams met, throwing four picks and no touchdowns. Darnold had 279 passing yards and 11 rushing yards.
I have Darnold ranked 20th among starting fantasy quarterbacks this week. I think that's fair given his season overall, and that last performance he put together against the Rams.
I see him performing much better this time around, so don't be afraid to start Darnold in some deeper leagues. I'd look elsewhere in a standard league.
Running Back Fantasy Outlooks
Kenneth Walker and Zach Charbonnet are still splitting the Seattle backfield.
Walker has 14, 16, 11 and 10 touches over his past four games, while Charbonnet has six, 14, nine and eight touches in those games. The split backfield has left both backs as inconsistent fantasy options.
Walker's last double-digit PPR performance was in week 13, so three weeks ago. He had a decent three-game stretch that ended at that point, and he's totaled just 47 total yards and no scores in the two games since.
Charbonnet's last double-digit fantasy performance was also in week 13. He has 97 total yards, but no scores, over the last two games.
Walker had 67 rushing yards and a score on 16 attempts, plus three catches for 44 yards in the last clash against the Rams. Charbonnet had 11 rushes for 37 yards, and two catches on as many targets for 10 additional yards.
That last matchup might not show it, but the Rams are the toughest fantasy test for running backs. Throw in their results of late and neither Seattle back made my top-30 rankings this week.
I see both as better deep-league options, with Walker still being my preferred Seattle back. I'd look elsewhere for RB help in standard leagues, if I could.
Wide Receiver Fantasy Outlooks
While the running backs have a tougher test, the Seattle wide receivers could shine in a very favorable matchup. LA is just outside being a top-five fantasy test.
Jaxon Smith-Njigba is the team's top wideout, and he's one of the top fantasy wide receivers this season. Rashid Shaheed and Cooper Kupp have been the next-best fantasy wideouts in Seattle of late.
Smith-Njigba is an auto start in fantasy this season, and he could shine in this matchup. He is my No. 2 fantasy wideout for week 16.
He has double-digit fantasy outings in all but one week this season. Really, he's been comfortably in double digits in all but one game. The last time the teams met, Smith-Njigba went for 105 yards on nine receptions and 12 targets. He could deliver an even bigger fantasy score tonight.
Shaheed started his Seattle tenure slowly, but he's trending up as the season winds down. He had 74 yards on five receptions and seven targets last week, and 67 yards on four grabs and five targets the week before that.
He will be facing the Rams for the third time this season. With New Orleans in week 9, Shaheed had 68 yards on five receptions and nine targets. With Seattle in week 11, he had just 27 yards on two grabs and five targets.
I don't have Shaheed ranked in my top 30, but he barely missed the cut. He's a standard league option depending on your other options. Shaheed should be starting in all deeper leagues at this point, especially in this great matchup.
Kupp has been steadily involved most of the season. He has between 23-46 yards over the past five contests, with the 46-yard game coming last week on five receptions and seven targets, so he's slightly trending up.
He had 23 yards on three receptions and seven targets against the Rams back in week 11. With Shaheed now around, Kupp's fantasy outlook is a bit lower.
Kupp is still an option in deeper leagues, but he's not to be trusted in standard leagues. He's a notch or two below Shaheed, but he could be a decent fantasy asset tonight in the great matchup.
No other Seattle wideout is worth starting in any fantasy leagues. The only way anyone outside the top three delivers is if JSN, Shaheed or Kupp get injured, and that's not something you want to bank on.
Tight End Fantasy Outlooks
The Rams are tougher on tight ends, so the Seattle TEs don't have the best outlook tonight.
AJ Barner has been leading the Seahawks' tight ends. Eric Saubert played 22 snaps last week, while Nick Kallerup was on the field for 10 snaps. Elijah Arroyo was placed on injured reserve last week, so he's no longer an option.
Barner is the best fantasy TE in Seattle, and has four or more targets in five straight games. His best game in that stretch came against the Rams, when he erupted for 70 yards on 10 receptions and 11 targets.
So while the matchup looks tough, Barner's production in the last game at least makes him a deep-league starting option in week 16.
That's where I have him ranked (16th) for week 16. With the emergence of Shaheed, I'm not comfortable starting Barner in standard leagues, so hopefully he doesn't make me regret saying that.
Saubert isn't in my top-25 TE rankings, and he shouldn't be with the tough matchup ahead, but he could steal a couple targets. He's a desperation play at TE in the deepest of fantasy leagues.
Kicker Fantasy Outlook
Jason Myers is the Seattle kicker, and he's projected for eight fantasy points tonight.
Starting in 82% of fantasy leagues, that should show you how good of a fantasy asset that Myers has been this season. He's coming off a game in which he made six field goals, so that helps that start percentage.
Myers has three or more field goals made in six straight games, while knocking in 15 extra points in that stretch. He's been a high-end fantasy kicker for a month-plus straight now, so he really should be starting in more leagues.
He had four field goals (on five attempts) and an extra point in the first game against Los Angeles. The game has an over/under of 42.5, and Myers should be involved plenty again tonight.
Myers is a great fantasy kicker for week 16, so add and start him confidently in all leagues.
DST Fantasy Outlook
The Seahawks DST is projected for six fantasy points tonight.
The Rams' offense is good, but might be a bit easier to slow if Davante Adams is eventually ruled out. At the least, he's going to be very limited.
Seattle is allowing 17.3 points per game this season, which is the second-best mark in the NFL. The Seahawks have 22 takeaways and 42 sacks, proving that the DST is a good/great one.
In the first game against LA, Seattle held the Rams' offense to 249 total yards of offense and 21 points. Seattle had no sacks and one takeaway.
I'm not a huge fan of facing the Rams' offense, but I also trust the Seattle defense to not get routed tonight. In such a big fantasy week, and on a short week, I'd be fine starting the Seahawks DST.
