We're a month into the NFL season; only three more to go. We are getting a good idea of who every player and team is in 2025, for better and worse. Plenty will change, and opportunities will arise for different players, but the season is starting to come into focus.

Fewer truly strong FAAB guys will be available as we get more information on everyone. It's hard for someone to sneak up on us when we are watching so intently every week. That means if there's a guy you really want to add, it might be time to start thinking about using your budget.

Let's look at some of the hottest RB and WR names on the waiver wire and what reasonable FAAB bids might look like. Your roster needs and remaining pool might change things a bit, but this is a good baseline to start from. All bids are based on a $100 budget.

Running Back

Justice Hill, Baltimore Ravens

Hill had a huge fantasy game in Week 4, running for 76 yards and a touchdown and catching five passes for 41 yards and another score. He ranks among the top six RBs in both standard and PPR scoring before Monday's games.

There are a few reasons this won't become the new normal. Hill never had 76 rushing yards or 117 total yards in any game in his career before Week 4. He also had a 71-yard run that made up the majority of his rushing production, otherwise taking just two carries for five yards.

The biggest issue is that Hill still plays behind Derrick Henry in Baltimore. Henry had a few quieter games, but he's still a bellcow in this offense, carrying the ball 49 times to just eight for Hill. Hill will catch the ball, but he's not going to get enough touches to be a real fantasy asset.

The story would change if Henry were to suffer an injury, but until then, Hill is nothing more than a fantasy bench player and handcuff.

Woody Marks, Houston Texans

This might be a different story. There aren't many times that we get a new back bursting onto the fantasy scene without an injury taking place, but Marks played almost the same number of snaps as Nick Chubb in Week 3 then out-snapped the veteran in Week 4.

Chubb had 12 touches to just seven for Marks in Week 3; this week, Marks had 21 touches to Chubb's 15, maybe showing a new trend in Houston. Marks was more efficient, gaining 4.1 yards per carry (Chubb was at 3.6) and turning four catches into 50 yards and a touchdown (he also scored on the ground).

Both players have been middling, averaging around 4.0 yards per carry, but the rookie Marks would seem to have more upside than the veteran, who is on the way down. There still isn't clarity on Joe Mixon's status, so Marks could be a longer-term solution at the most important fantasy position.

Don't expect a high-level fantasy player, and he's still going to split snaps with Chubb, but Marks is a rare player who is available as a free agent in many leagues while possibly playing starting running back snaps.

Desperation Bid: $11-16

Kendre Miller, New Orleans Saints

Alvin Kamara leads the way in New Orleans. He far outplays Miller by both snaps and touches, and there's no RB1 controversy between the two players. Miller was heavily involved in Week 4, though, carrying the ball 11 times for 65 yards and scoring a touchdown (Kamara had 15 for 70).

Other than Week 1, when Kamara had 11 carries to five for Miller, the starting back has carried the ball at least 10 more times than Miller. Kamara is always going to lead the backfield in the passing game also, as he is one of the best pass-catching backs in the league.

Picking up Miller means that you're counting on a backup getting enough touches regularly to be relevant in fantasy football. He's a deep-league bench player and a useful handcuff if you're into that kind of thing (I'm not), but you're pretty much waiting for Kamara to get hurt when hoping that Miller will become even a consistent flex option.

It's a scarce position, and anyone who touches the ball has some value, but I'm looking elsewhere for my bench players and lottery tickets.

Chris Rodriguez Jr., Washington Commanders

It looks like a running back by committee in Washington: the four most hated words in fantasy football. Austin Ekeler was hurt in Week 2, and it was assumed Jacory Croskey-Merritt would lead the backfield.

Instead, Rodriguez has gotten the most carries, combining for 98 yards on 18 attempts (a 5.4-yard average). Croskey-Merritt has 15 carries for 73 yards in those two weeks and three receptions for 15 yards. Jeremy McNichols has been the third man, with just six carries and one reception since Ekeler went down.

So, will Rodriguez lead the way moving forward? It looks like it's probably a true split, with Croskey-Merritt doing more of the pass catching. It's also notable that this all happened with Marcus Mariota under center, and Jayden Daniels will probably be back in Week 5. Things could look a little different, though the most likely scenario is still the shared backfield.

That gives Rodriguez a little fantasy value. It would be better if he were the pass-catching end, but if he's getting carries each week, there's potential there. The lack of touches will limit his ceiling and lower his floor, though, so Rodriguez is a risky player. He's a better bench guy right now.

Wide Receiver

Romeo Doubs, Green Bay Packers

There were questions as to what the target distribution would look like in Green Bay after Jayden Reed went down with a collarbone injury in Week 2. It has been inconsistent, with a few possible stars shining through:

  • In Week 3, running back Josh Jacobs led the team with nine targets, more than twice as many as anyone else. Matthew Golden, Tucker Kraft, and Dontayvion Wicks had four targets apiece, and Doubs had two.
  • In Week 4, Doubs led the way with eight targets, while Golden had six, Kraft had five, and Jacobs and Wicks each had four. Doubs also had a huge stat line, with six catches for 58 yards and three touchdowns.

I'm not sure if “receiver by committee” is quite as bad as the running back version, but it's what Green Bay appears to have. That leaves Doubs and Golden (and to a lesser degree Wicks) as players who can be considered in fantasy. They don't get above a WR3 level, but they are in that discussion when the matchup is right.

That's an OK bench player, but Doubs isn't someone you should be dying to grab. He's fine for a roster spot until Reed and/or Christian Watson return, but Doubs will likely have as many quiet games as good ones.

Desperation Bid: $4-6

Luke McCaffrey, Washington Commanders

McCaffrey has scored a touchdown in two straight games. He combined for just five catches and 77 yards in those contests. That would be fine production if he were going to score a touchdown in half his games, but that's unlikely to continue.

McCaffrey has just seven targets on the season; two of them going for scores is highly unlikely. For reference on his own team, Zach Ertz has scored two touchdowns and has 20 targets, while Deebo Samuel Sr. has 27 targets for his two scores. Terry McLaurin has 17 targets in three games and hasn't found the end zone.

Touchdown regression is coming for McCaffrey, and that caps his fantasy value with such low volume. He will also be buried on the depth chart when McLaurin returns. McCaffrey is a deep-league bench player at best.

Need Bid: $1

Desperation Bid: $2

Wan'Dale Robinson, New York Giants

Malik Nabers is done for the season with a torn ACL, so Robinson is the next man up for the top receiver spot. Robinson is tied with Nabers for most receptions on the team and just 34 yards short of the young star, so he was already putting up stats next to Nabers.

New York's passing game is likely to be inconsistent with rookie Jaxson Dart now in the lineup and Nabers out, but someone has to catch the ball, and Robinson is most likely to lead the way. He's under weekly WR3/4/flex consideration and could even creep to WR2 range if simply because there aren't many other players around him.

Darius Slayton should also see a bump, but he's a deep-league option only. Robinson should be on a roster in most leagues, though he's a bench player, not a weekly fix.

Desperation Bid: $8-11
