Saints' Fantasy Football Outlook: Will Anyone Outside Alvin Kamara be a Weekly Asset as Spencer Rattler Starts?

Let's knock off another fantasy football outlook, this time going over the New Orleans Saints.

We have covered the Steelers, Packers, Titans, Panthers, Chiefs, Falcons, Jaguars, Commanders, Texans, Cardinals, Bengals, Lions, Dolphins, 49ers, Chargers, Eagles, Ravens, Seahawks, Bills, Buccaneers, Patriots, Cowboys, Raiders, Rams, Broncos, Giants and Browns so far. We will go over the other teams before the end of this week, so keep checking back for more!

Spencer Rattler Fantasy Outlook

Rattler was just named the team's starting quarterback for the start of the season. He beat out rookie Tyler Shough for the job.

Rattler doesn't even appear on the ADP list at this point, but he could get on it now after this news.

He made six starts over seven appearances in his rookie year in 2024. Rattler threw for 1,317 yards, four touchdowns and five interceptions, while rushing for 146 yards and no scores.

Those numbers leave a lot to be desired, and this Saints' offense is devoid of talent and might be the worst offense in the league in 2025. Rattler doesn't have much fantasy value, even if he retains the starting role all season.

He's only a deep-league option, and a depth one at that, to begin the year. Rattler could become a better option, but will need to prove it. I don't see him being a good starting option in many leagues.

Running Back Fantasy Outlook

Alvin Kamara is the team's starting running back. Kendre Miller is the top backup, while Velus Jones Jr. and rookie Devin Neal are some other options on the roster.

Kamara is RB16 and going near pick 35 on average. He'll be the leader of this offense, as long as he's on the field.

In 14 games last year, Kamara had 1,493 total yards and eight scores. He should be the do-it-all guy again this season, but regression is likely to come, even if he plays in all 17 games. Defenses are going to be able to key in on him, especially if the QB play is subpar.

I still like Kamara as a draft asset, and think his ADP is fine where it is. He has room to outproduce those marks. Just know you are taking a bit of a risk because he hasn't played over 15 games in a season since his rookie year in 2017.

Miller has only produced 454 total yards and two scores over his first 14 games and two years in the NFL. He wasn't a big part of the coaching staff's plan in the past, but could get more involved with a new staff in place now.

With a lack of playmakers elsewhere, and in an effort to keep Kamara healthy, I could see Miller carving out a decent offensive role all season. The addition of Neal is not helping Miller though.

Miller is RB69 and is going near pick 241 on average. Neal is RB87 and going around pick 304.

Neal was a sixth-round pick of the team this offseason, so he should only leap Miller if he earns it. It'll be interesting to see how the team handles the backfield as the season gets rolling.

I don't mind taking fliers on Miller or Neal in deeper leagues. It'd likely take an injury to Kamara to make either guy a good standard league streaming option/waiver add, because I just don't see this offense being very good. Don't write them both off though.

Wide Receiver Fantasy Outlook

Chris Olave is the team's top wideout. Rashid Shaheed and the newly-acquired Devaughn Vele are the other projected starters, while Mason Tipton, Brandin Cooks, Cedrick Wilson Jr. and Kevin Austin Jr. are some backup options.

Olave and Shaheed are the only Saints' wideouts on the ADP list to kick off the season. Olave is WR34 and is going near pick 77, while Shaheed is WR56 and going near pick 152 on average.

Olave is the best wideout on the team, but has real concerns because of injury/concussion histories. He only got in eight games a season ago, going for 407 total yards and a score.

Olave had 1,123 yards and five scores across 16 games in 2023. I don't see him reaching those numbers in 2025, mostly because of the quarterback play, but also because of the concerns we just discussed.

I don't see a lot of value in drafting Olave near his ADP, and I'd skip him unless he dropped several picks. There's just too many question marks surrounding him.

Sure, he could bounce back and be a huge draft steal, but I really don't see it happening. Don't take the risk unless he falls a couple rounds.

Shaheed also has injury concerns now after only getting in six games last year. He had 378 yards and three scores in his short time on the field.

Those are solid per-game numbers, but that was with a better QB throwing to him most of that timeframe. His ADP is where it is for a reason, and it still might be a bit high.

I'm fine taking a flier on him in deeper leagues, but wouldn't look at him as anything more than a flex option to start the season. He might not ever produce consistently enough to be a starting option in those leagues, or a standard league waiver add or streaming option.

He's worth watching still, but I think quarterback play is going to lead to him being a wildly inconsistent fantasy asset.

A guy who could end up as a better fantasy asset than Shaheed is Vele.

He had 475 yards and three scores over 13 games with Denver in his rookie season. Vele could be a better asset as he's not a deep threat like Shaheed.

Don't forget about Vele, even though he's pretty far out of fantasy owner's minds right now.

Tight End Fantasy Outlook

Juwan Johnson is the team's top tight end. With Taysom Hill out with an injury for a while yet, Jack Stoll is likely to be the top backup at TE.

Johnson hasn't taken off as a fantasy asset like most fantasy owners hoped he would. He had seven scores in 2022, but has that many combined in the two years since. Johnson had three scores and 548 yards over 50 catches and 66 targets in 2024.

He could be a sneaky good fantasy asset in 2025, but is way off the draft radar as TE34 and going near pick 279 on average.

I expect Johnson to outperform those marks by the end of the season, so he's a fine backup TE option in deeper leagues. He could become a weekly starter in those leagues, along with a possible standard league add or streamer, so don't forget about him.

Hill is actually the top-draft fantasy TE for New Orleans. He's TE31 and going near pick 261 on average.

Most are expecting the swiss-army knife to return in October or early-November.

Over eight games last year, Hill had 278 rushing yards and six scores, along with 187 receiving yards on 23 grabs and 31 targets. He threw for just 21 yards on two completions and four attempts.

This would be the perfect team for Hill to be utilized in. Heck, he might even be the best quarterback option when he's healthy.

I get still wanting to roster Hill in fantasy, but just know he might miss a large chunk of the season. He'll be a better waiver wire add when he returns, so we'll track that and let you know when to scoop him up.
