These Head-to-Head Streaming Pitchers Are Fantasy Gold Today

It's not every day that we have streaming pitchers facing each other, but it does happen; bad teams are going to play each other. We have something a little different today, though, as our four streaming pitchers are made up of two pairs of players facing each other.

Pitchers aren't in direct head-to-head competition during games, the same way that quarterbacks never meet on the field during a football game, especially now that pitchers don't bat. The hurlers are inextricably linked, though, as the starting pitcher has more control over the game than any other player on the field on any given day (again, just like quarterbacks).

Let's look at four starting pitchers in action on Wednesday who have good matchups and are widely available in fantasy leagues. Most stats are from MLB.com, as are the probable starters. The full streamer rankings are listed at the bottom.

Joey Cantillo, Cleveland Guardians @ Los Angeles Angels

Grayson Rodriguez, Los Angeles Angels vs. Cleveland Guardians

Our first matchup is between two teams that have struggled offensively but are in much different places. The Guardians have a bottom-10 lineup, but they also have a top-10 pitching staff that is keeping them in the hunt. Cleveland has struggled to reach the top of their division, sitting a handful of games back for much of the season, but they were only 2.5 back entering Tuesday and could easily take control of the AL Central.

The Angels, on the other hand, are close to 30 games below .500, holding one of the three worst records in baseball. LA has a below-average pitching staff that ranks in the bottom 10 in many box stats, matching their weak lineup to keep the team far from the playoffs. Los Angeles hasn't made the postseason since 2014; Mike Trout won two MVP awards and finished in the top five in voting six times since that season. It looks like it will be several more years before the Angels seriously compete for another playoff spot, and Trout may be on a new team by that time.

Cantillo has been average or better in every area this season other than walks. He has a career-worst BB% of 11.2% (versus league average around 8-9%), leading to higher pitch counts shortening some of his starts, including his last time out against the Rockies when he threw only 4 2/3 innings despite allowing just four hits and one run, missing out on the win he would have earned with one more out. Cantillo still provides fantasy value, as he has been a high-level strikeout pitcher his whole career, and he belongs in a lineup in about every league today.

Rodriguez was acquired from Baltimore in the offseason after missing all of 2025 due to elbow issues that eventually required surgery (not Tommy John). Rodriguez was seen as a high-level prospect after being drafted 11th overall and putting up fantastic minor league numbers, but injuries and middling work in the majors has quelled that talk a bit, though he is still just 26 years old. He didn't return until the middle of May and has struggled in 2026, allowing 72 hits, 48 earned runs (6.55 ERA), and 11 homers in 66 innings. Throw in both a walk and strikeout rate a few percentage points worse than average, and Rodriguez is tough to trust (though he has done his best work in August).

Cantillo is a mid-to-high-level streamer and Rodriguez a low-to-mid-level streamer. Cantillo is the better pitcher and has the better matchup, and he has a strong outlook today. Rodriguez is a strong buy-low candidate for LA, but he probably shouldn't be in your lineup outside of deep leagues.

Nick Lodolo, Cincinnati Reds @ San Francisco Giants

Landen Roupp, San Francisco Giants vs. Cincinnati Reds

This game features two teams well out of the playoff race, with the Reds eight games below .500 and nine back in the wild card entering Tuesday, while the Giants have the fourth-worst record in baseball. Cincinnati's story is simple: they hit home runs and draw walks but do everything else at a bottom-10 level. They also have struck out more times per game than any other team, setting a high ceiling.

The Giants play in a big-time pitcher's park, which hurts their offensive output (this game is in San Fran, an extra boost for our pitchers here). They rate out much better when looking just at away games, but in those contests played at Oracle Park in San Francisco, the Giants are clearly a below-average offensive team and rank in the bottom 10 in many stats. We won't look to go after them every day, but I feel good about targeting San Francisco today.

Lodolo is a big part of that confidence, as he has shown high-level work in the past and is owned in a little over 50% of fantasy leagues. His 2026 hasn't been as good, though, as he has spent two stints on the IL and hasn't been overly effective when on the field. Most concerningly, Lodolo's strikeout rate has fallen to a relatively paltry 17.5% versus his career rate of 24.8% (and league average around 22%). He has also been hit too hard and struggled in two of his three August starts, a cause for concern.

Roupp is having his worst season from a run-prevention standpoint, but he is doing well limiting hits and home runs, and Roupp has K rate a little better than average. He is also walking too many guys, something that has helped lead to some of those woes (along with plain old bad luck). He has alternated effectiveness in recent months, following a pitiful June with a sparkling July and now a struggle-filled August. Way back on April 16, Roupp threw six shutout innings against these same Reds with six strikeouts and just three baserunners allowed.

Lodolo is a low-to-mid-level streamer and Roupp a mid-level streamer today. They are helped by this game being played in San Francisco rather than Cincinnati (which is a more neutral park), and both pitchers have shown better work in the past. Roupp has been better this season and has the better matchup, so he gets the advantage.
