Thursday Waiver Wire Targets: Under-the-Radar Fantasy Baseball Hitters to Add

After looking into some fantasy baseball pitching options on the waiver wire for Thursday, let's now discuss some hitting options.

We won't include any hitters who appeared in waiver stories on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday.

Chase Meidroth and Sam Antonacci - Chicago White Sox

Meidroth has been added in 1.81% of fantasy baseball leagues today, which brings his overall mark to 23.33%. Antonacci is up to 33% rostered, which is up about 3% since May 25.

Meidroth has three straight two-hit games. He has a five-game hitting streak going in total, with eight knocks over that span. Meidroth has two homers among the hits in that stretch, plus six RBIs and two runs scored.

He has played in 53 games so far this season, and has gotten 227 plate appearances. Meidroth has a .273 average and .345 on-base percentage, plus 18 RBIs, 33 runs scored, 23 walks, a stolen base and 51 strikeouts. Among his 54 total hits, Meidroth has nine doubles and five home runs.

Meidroth should be eligible at second base and shortstop, which adds a little fantasy value to his name. He's starting to produce a bit more at the plate, which is why he's on the rise. Meidroth is just a deep-league asset, but he's worth watching in case he stays hot for a few weeks, at which point he could be picked up and utilized in some standard leagues.

I see Meidroth as a better deep-league asset over time, but after a slow start to the season, he might be bouncing back. Add and utilize him in more deeper leagues today, and be ready to possibly add him in standard leagues down the line.

Antonacci has a three-game hitting streak going, with five knocks over that span. He has three RBIs and two runs scored in that short timeframe.

Antonacci has logged 146 plate appearances over his 38 games since being called up. He has a .287 average and .389 OBP, along with 13 RBIs, 22 runs scored, 10 walks, seven stolen bases and 21 strikeouts. Antonacci has five doubles, two triples and a home run among his 35 total knocks.

He primarily plays left field, but could also gain eligibility at second base, if he hasn't already. That dual eligibility could make Antonacci a sneaky-good fantasy asset.

He's already worth adding and utilizing in a decent amount of deeper fantasy leagues. Antonacci is another White Sox to keep tabs on, as more good results at the plate could get him into standard leagues in time, especially if he gains second base eligibility.

Ceddanne Rafaela - Boston Red Sox

Rafaela is rostered in roughly 64% of fantasy leagues right now. That's up a couple percent from May 26.

He is on a four-game hitting streak, and has six knocks over that span, including a double and a home run. Rafaela has four RBIs and two runs scored in that short span.

Rafaela has a .285 average and .350 OBP over 52 games and 197 plate appearances this season. He has 23 RBIs, 23 runs scored, 12 walks, four stolen bases and 41 strikeouts this season. Rafaela has nine doubles, five homers and two triples among his 51 total knocks.

He is the Red Sox' centerfielder this year, but should have second base eligibility from last season. That makes Rafaela a pretty good fantasy asset, especially in deeper leagues.

When he's contributing at the plate, then he can be added back in standard leagues. At least utilize him while his bat is a bit hotter. Overall though, Rafaela is a better deep-league asset, then is just someone to stream in stretches in standard leagues.

Spencer Torkelson - Detroit Tigers

Torkelson is owned in about 43% of leagues. That's slightly up from the past several days.

He had three knocks in his last game, including two doubles and a home run. Torkelson has seven hits over his past six games, so he appears to be heating up a bit at the plate.

Over 55 games and 211 plate appearances overall this season, Torkelson has a .210 average and .318 OBP - those numbers aren't good for fantasy purposes, but he could be turning a corner.

He has 38 total hits, including 12 doubles and eight home runs. Torkelson has 21 RBIs, 18 runs scored, 25 walks and 68 strikeouts.

The first baseman has disappointed this season, but big power numbers have made him a fantasy asset in the past, and maybe he finds that groove again soon. Give him some deep-league adds, and be ready to add him in standard leagues if his bat stays hot.
