Fantasy Baseball Weekly Projections: Waiver Wire Hitters to Add This Week

For our last fantasy baseball waiver wire-related article of the day, let's check out weekly projections to identify some more hitters to target and utilize.

Bryan Torres - St. Louis Cardinals

Torres has six games lined up for the coming week. He's rostered in just 5.7% of fantasy baseball leagues right now.

He made his MLB debut on Saturday, playing in both halves of the team's doubleheader against the Reds. Across eight at-bats, Torres had three hits, including a home run. He added two RBIs, a run scored, two walks and a strikeout.

Torres hit seventh and played left field in each game. He started against two right-handed pitchers, so we'll see if he starts against lefties too here soon.

After his fast start, Torres is worth considering, but just in deep fantasy leagues right now. If he delivers enough, he could work into standard leagues as well, but he'd really need to produce, and play daily, for that to happen. Keep tabs on Torres to see how high he can soar.

Jake Burger - Texas Rangers

Burger has seven games lined up for this week. He's owned in 37% of fantasy leagues.

His bat has gotten going of late, and he's up to a .241 average and .291 on-base percentage now over 50 contests and 206 plate appearances. Burger has 46 total hits, including eight doubles and 10 homers, plus 34 RBIs, 23 runs scored, a stolen base, 13 walks and 55 strikeouts.

Burger is a decent deep-league asset, especially when his bat is hot, like it is now. There's better long-term options out there in standard leagues, so I'd skip Burger in those leagues. Him being a first baseman doesn't help his cause too much either.

Casey Schmitt - San Francisco Giants

Schmitt is rostered in 75% of leagues at the moment. He's got six games lined up this coming week.

He has two big games in a row at the plate, and has been a surprise for most of the season. Schmitt has a .296 average and .339 OBP over 45 games and 183 plate appearances. He has 11 homers, nine doubles and a triple among his 50 total knocks, plus 29 RBIs, 25 runs scored, three stolen bases, seven walks and 36 strikeouts.

Him possibly being eligible at several positions also helps his fantasy cause. Schmitt is a good deep-league asset, and is a sneaky-good standard league option right now too. Consider adding him for the week, and until his bat cools off a bit.

Pedro Ramirez - Chicago Cubs

Ramirez is rostered in just 9% of fantasy leagues. He could play up to seven games this week.

He got called up a couple days ago, and has logged five plate appearances across two games. Ramirez has a double for his lone hit, plus he's also walked once. He has a run scored, an RBI and no strikeouts yet.

Ramirez needs to be starting and playing full games to have a good fantasy outlook. He's worth tracking as a young player who has a good outlook in the long run.

He'll need to produce and play daily to get into more fantasy leagues, and if he produces, the Cubs will have no choice but to keep him in the big leagues for the long run. Be ready to add Ramirez if he takes off at any point.

Daulton Varsho - Toronto Blue Jays

Varsho is owned in about 46% of leagues right now. He too could play up to seven games this week.

Varsho is having a career season to this point, as he sports a .265 average and .338 OBP over 51 games and 201 plate appearances. He has 11 doubles, a triple and five home runs among his 48 total knocks, plus 16 RBIs, 23 runs scored, four stolen bases, 18 walks and 39 strikeouts.

He's trending up as a fantasy asset, and is a good deep-league asset right now. Keep utilizing Varsho in deeper leagues until his bat cools off a bit.

I also like Varsho in some standard leagues, but more so just as a short-term option.

Gavin Sheets - San Diego Padres

Sheets is owned in about 59% of leagues right now. He has six games lined up for the coming week.

Sheets is on a four-game hitting streak as the new week begins. He has a .253 average and .331 OBP over 48 games and 163 plate appearances on the season.

He had 37 total hits, including 10 doubles and nine homers. Sheets has 23 RBIs, 20 runs scored, three stolen bases, 16 walks and 34 strikeouts as well.

The first baseman and corner outfielder is at two stacked fantasy positions, but has enough fantasy value as a hitter to utilize in deeper leagues. He's sneaking into standard leagues now, but is more of a short-term option there. Give Sheets a look, especially if you need just a little help for the time being.
