Fantasy Baseball Waiver Wire Hitting Targets: Catchers Trending Up

The work week rolls along, and we are now on our third fantasy baseball waiver wire articles of the week. Let's look at some more hitter options. 

Here is a story on starting pitcher streaming options for Wednesday. Here are waiver wire hitter stories from Monday and Tuesday - we won't cover any of those players in this article.

Gabriel Moreno - Arizona Diamondbacks

Moreno has been added in 8.97% of fantasy baseball leagues today, which brings his overall mark to 40.96%.

He went hitless on Tuesday, but did walk once. Ruiz had multi-hit efforts in the four games before that, and he drove in five runs and scored five runs in that span.

Moreno now owns a .253 average and .307 on-base percentage over 27 games and 101 plate appearances this season. He has 23 total hits, including seven doubles and two home runs. Moreno has 14 RBIs, 13 runs scored, two stolen bases, seven walks and 22 strikeouts.

He's an option at catcher, which is a hard spot to find consistent fantasy production at. We have more options at catcher to discuss in this article, but Moreno is a good deep-league asset now, and could work into standard leagues in due time if he keeps delivering daily.

Keibert Ruiz - Washington Nationals

Ruiz is up 3.54%, and he now sits at 15.7%.

He is riding a four-game hitting streak, and has six hits, including two homers, over that span. Ruiz has eight RBIs in his past three games, along with four runs scored over the four-game stretch.

Ruiz owns a .236 average and .255 OBP over 29 games and 94 plate appearances this season. He has 21 total hits, with 14 of them being doubles and four being home runs. Ruiz has 21 RBIs, 11 runs scored, a stolen base, two walks and 15 strikeouts.

He's starting to heat up at the plate, and he's emerged as another good deep-league fantasy asset. It'd take a couple weeks of hot hitting to get him into standard leagues, but he's at least worth watching in case he keeps delivering big.

Zack Gelof - Athletics

Gelof is rostered in 29% of fantasy leagues right now. He was barely owned as of May 7.

Gelof had three hits on Tuesday, including a home run. He had three RBIs and two runs scored in that game. Gelof has five hits over a three-game hitting streak, and has delivered pretty well this season.

Over 32 games and 102 plate appearances, Gelof has a .269 average and .320 OBP. He has 25 total hits so far, including six home runs, two doubles and one triple. Gelof has 16 RBIs, 18 runs scored, four stolen bases, six walks and 23 strikeouts.

He can play all over the field, which helps him get in the lineup regularly. Gelof has more fantasy value as a result, and he's become a pretty solid deep-league asset. I think that's where he'll top out, but again, he's worth tracking in case his bat stays hot.

Samuel Basallo - Baltimore Orioles

Basallo has been added in 3.82% of leagues, and he's up to 66.11% overall now.

He went hitless on Tuesday, but had a hit in 10 straight games before that. Basallo collected 14 knocks in that span, including six extra-base hits.

In 38 games and 145 plate appearances, Basallo has a .271 average and .331 OBP. He has 17 RBIs, 18 runs scored, 12 walks and 37 strikeouts. Basallo has seven doubles, six homers and a triple among his 36 total hits.

He mostly catches, but he also appears at first base and as the team's designated hitter, so he's in the lineup plenty, and could have extra fantasy value if he's eligible at other spots than catcher. Basallo isn't super consistent yet, but he's starting to come around at the plate. I like him in all deeper leagues, and he's now sneaking into more and more standard leagues, so add him if you are lacking at catcher.

Dillon Dingler - Detroit Tigers

Dingler is rostered in 83% of leagues, so this could be the last time we discuss him as a waiver wire option if he keeps producing at the plate.

He hasn't posted a hit in a couple games, but he's produced pretty well over the course of the season. He's importantly playing regularly.

In 43 games and over 174 plate appearances, Dingler has a .239 average and .314 OBP. He has eight homers and nine doubles among his 37 total hits, plus 28 RBIs, 18 runs scored, 13 walks and 34 strikeouts.

Dingler is only eligible at catcher, but he also appears as the designated hitter here and there, which ups his fantasy value because he's playing and not sitting too much. He fared better at the plate in 2025, so there's more upside than he's shown so far. Dingler is a good deep-league asset, and if he can improve his numbers just a bit, he'd be worth owning in all standard leagues, so keep very close tabs on him.
