Corbin Carroll, Jackson Holliday Dealing with Same Injury | Fantasy Baseball Impact
Arizona and Baltimore might have to adjust lineups as injuries sideline key bats.
It's getting hard to keep up with the MLB injury news. I just posted a story, and two more major injuries have been announced since then.
Let's go over what the injuries to Arizona's Corbin Carroll and Baltimore's Jackson Holliday mean in the real world and for fantasy baseball.

Injury Details and Stats
Carroll has a broken right hamate bone. He broke it during a live batting practice session yesterday.
He will miss time this spring after having surgery today. He will not play in the World Baseball Classic for the USA, and he will maybe miss some regular season time too.
Holliday also has a broken hamate bone in his right hand. His surgery is on February 12. His timeline for the spring is now in question, and he'll miss opening day.
Carroll is one of the better hitters in the game, and this is a blow to his fantasy outlook, even if it's just a bit.
He's coming off a season in which he posted a .259 average and .343 on-base percentage. Carroll had 146 hits, including 31 homers, 32 doubles and 17 triples. He also had 84 RBIs, 107 runs scored, 32 stolen bases, 67 walks and 153 strikeouts.
Carroll played in 143 games overall. That was the first time he failed to reach 155 games since his rookie season.
Holliday showed some more promise in his second big league season in 2025. Over 149 games, Holliday had a .242 average and .314 OBP.
Holliday had 142 total hits, including 21 doubles, 17 homers and three triples. He added 55 RBIs, 70 runs scored, 17 stolen bases, 56 walks and 140 strikeouts.
Carroll is the eighth player on the average draft position list, going around pick 10 on average so far. I'd expect that to drop a bit after this now.
Holliday is the 131st player on the list, going around pick 129 on average. His draft stock will drop a bit as well.
Outlook for the Diamondbacks
Should Carroll miss time to start the regular season, there will be a void in the Arizona outfield.
Lourdes Gurriel Jr. is another outfielder dealing with an injury, so the D-Backs could be down two guys. Jordan Lawlar, who is making the transition from the infield to the outfield, is one of the projected outfield starters, with Alek Thomas and Jorge Barrosa in a projected platoon for the third spot.
Pavin Smith is the projected designated hitter, but he might have to fill a corner outfield spot if Carroll misses time. Smith did not appear in the field in 2025, so the outfield defense could be a mess in Arizona early on.
Tim Tawa and Ildemaro Vargas are a couple versatile defenders who could also slide into outfield spots if Carroll misses time at the beginning of the season. Tawa and Vargas are projected bench bats right now.
Other players like Tommy Troy, Ryan Waldschmidt, Kristian Robinson, A.J. Vukovich and Druw Jones are other options in the outfield early in the season, if Carroll misses any time.
This is a situation that should gain more clarity as time passes. For now, dock Carroll a bit as a draft asset, and hope he doesn't miss more than a couple weeks. We'll re-assess things as the season gets closer.
Outlook for the Orioles
Holliday was the Baltimore second baseman, a position now projected to go to Blaze Alexander, who was just traded for (from Arizona, oddly enough).
Jeremiah Jackson is a projected bench bat who could help out there. Payton Eeles, Jose Barrero and others are other options.
Baltimore still has enough talent on its roster/offense to be fine if Holliday misses some regular season time. The injury is more a blow to Holliday and his fantasy outlook as he looks to establish himself as an everyday second baseman.
The Orioles might just have to be a bit creative in the early going as they battle without Holliday. The injury doesn't really alter the fantasy outlooks for anyone but the guys actually playing second base.
This is another situation that should gain more clarity as the season nears, and we will keep you posted on the latest when more information is available.
I'm going to treat Holliday as a deep-league only fantasy asset for the time being, but he'll definitely be an option for all leagues when he's back healthy.
Hopefully he and Carroll don't miss too much time.
