Should You Add Josh Jung?
Jung is up 2.43% so far and sits at 31.96% overall.
He's been on a tear of late, collecting multiple hits in four straight contests. During an ongoing eight-game hitting streak, Jung has 17 hits, including four doubles and two home runs. He also has eight RBIs, nine runs scored, a walk and eight strikeouts.
Jung has played in 107 games and logged 415 plate appearances on the year. He has a .259 average and .304 on-base percentage, along with 53 RBIs, 43 runs scored, 23 walks and 106 strikeouts. Jung has 101 hits on the year, including 16 doubles, 13 homers and a triple.
It's been a so-so fantasy season for Jung, but with him on a tear of late, he could be a really good asset in all leagues. I like adding him in all deeper leagues, and would be fine streaming him in standard leagues as well.
He's a third baseman, which is a fantasy spot with some talent, but not a ton of depth. At the very least, Jung is a good depth option in the infield, so look into adding him for the time being, or the stretch run.
Should You Add Gavin Sheets?
Sheets has been added in 4.3% of leagues, bringing his overall mark to 37.11%.
He has multi-hit efforts in four straight games. Sheets has 13 hits during his ongoing seven-game hitting streak, with five doubles and a homer among the hits. He has four RBIs, five runs scored, three walks and five strikeouts in that span as well.
Sheets has had a really good season in his first year with the Padres. Over 121 games and 450 plate appearances, he has a .270 average and .331 OBP. Sheets also has 23 doubles, 18 home runs, a triple, 110 total hits, 62 RBIs, 49 runs scored, two stolen bases, 35 walks and 88 strikeouts.
Something else working in his favor is that he's likely eligible to play at first base and left field (and probably right field too). He is the Padres' designated hitter a lot too, so he's in the lineup often.
He's started and batted sixth in five straight games for San Diego. The Padres have only faced righties over that stretch though.
Sheets has been a solid fantasy asset most of the season, but is probably a bit underrated and overlooked because of the positions he's eligible at. First base and the outfield are two of the deepest fantasy spots out there.
I like adding and streaming Sheets in deeper leagues right now. He's in a groove at the plate and is producing plenty - he's probably capable of even more too.
Give him an add, at least for the time being, and you might end up utilizing him until the end of the season. He could even be a standard league option if you don't like the other available options at those couple spots.
Should You Add Sal Stewart?
Stewart is rostered in 10% of leagues right now as he prepares for his MLB debut.
He is the No. 31 prospect in all of baseball. Stewart is a third and second basemen primarily, but has also played a little first base.
Stewart is just 21 years old, stands 6-foot-1 and weighs 224 pounds. He was the 32nd overall pick in the 2022 MLB Draft by the Reds.
He's a 55-graded overall prospect. Stewart has a 60 mark for his hitting and a 55-graded arm. He has a 50 for his power, 40 for his running and 45 for his fielding.
Stewart has a .289 average and .390 on-base percentage over 323 total minor league games over the past four years. He has 337 total hits, including 85 doubles, a triple and 40 homers, along with 202 RBIs, 208 runs scored, 42 stolen bases, 184 walks and 216 strikeouts.
Across 78 games at Double-A and Triple-A this season, Stewart has a .309 average and .383 OBP. He has 135 total hits, with 20 homers and 34 doubles included. Stewart also has 17 stolen bases, 80 RBIs, 78 runs scored, 46 walks and 77 strikeouts this season.
The Reds believe he's ready for the big leagues, so they are giving him a chance as rosters expand. They aren't going to call up a top-100 prospect to sit the bench, so expect him in the lineup pretty much every day.
He might slot in lower in the lineup, but there's enough talent in Cincy to make Stewart a pretty solid fantasy asset down the stretch. I'd be happy to add him in deeper leagues right away, even if you wait a bit to start him.
Stewart could work into standard leagues in a hurry as well, so everyone needs to keep an eye on the young infielder.
Should You Add Jorge Polanco?
Polanco has been added in 5.94% of leagues - he's at 58.82% overall.
He went hitless on Sunday, but delivered nine hits over a six-game hitting streak before that. Polanco had three homers and two doubles among the hits, along with seven RBIs, six runs scored, a stolen base and walk and three strikeouts.
Polanco had a .252 average and .315 OBP across 115 games and 431 plate appearances this season. He has 22 doubles and 17 homers among his 98 total knocks, along with six stolen bases, 62 RBIs, 51 runs scored, 34 walks and 68 strikeouts.
Polanco has been an up-and-down fantasy player all season, so he's been a waiver wire option several times. I think he's a better deep-league option, and that there's better standard league assets available in most leagues.
So while I'm fine adding him in deeper leagues, I'm likely to add another player over him in a standard league. The only way I'm adding him in a standard league is if I'm desperate for help at second base.
Should You Add Parker Messick?
Messick is rostered in 43.81% of leagues and is up 6.04% today.
He's a streaming option for the day. Messick will face the Red Sox in an afternoon tilt.
Messick has made just two MLB appearances this season, but has been stellar in those outings. He has a 1-0 record, a 0.66 earned run average over 13 2/3 innings, while allowing a run on 11 hits and a walk. Messick has struck out 12 batters.
His MLB debut was against the Diamondbacks on August 20. Messick worked 6 2/3 innings, allowing a run on seven hits and a walk, while striking out six.
Messick was even better on August 26 against the Rays, twirling seven scoreless frames. He allowed four hits, while striking out six and walking none.
The matchup against the Red Sox is so-so, which means Messick isn't a major streaming option. He's on the rise with how he's looked over his first two starts though.
Take a look at who all is available to stream on Monday and then compare Messick against them. I think he has a pretty solid floor and higher fantasy ceiling tonight, so I'd be a fan of streaming him.
I'd be fine streaming him in deeper leagues or standard ones as well. I'm not all-in on Messick today, but he's going a bit overlooked, so if you can afford to take a slight gamble, then give him a shot.
