Friday's Fantasy Baseball Waiver Wire Adds: Carson Williams, Jhostynxon Garcia and More
Looking at a few waiver wire pitchers and hitters to consider adding in fantasy baseball leagues.
It's time for my last fantasy baseball waiver wire story of the week!
We won't cover anyone who appeared in stories on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday. I'm also going to avoid anyone who was on Friday's streaming pitcher article.

Should You Add Ryan O'Hearn?
O'Hearn is up 3.56% today and is rostered in 48% of leagues overall.
He didn't have a hit on Thursday, but walked once, got hit by a pitch and scored a run. O'Hearn had a four-game hitting streak before that, collecting two homers and a double among six knocks in that span. He also has six RBIs, five runs scored, two walks and six strikeouts over his past five contests.
O'Hearn has regressed a bit since joining the Padres from his numbers with the Orioles. He has a .250 average and .382 on-base percentage with San Diego across 17 games and 55 plate appearances. O'Hearn has three homers and two doubles among his 11 total knocks with his new team, while also having 10 RBIs, eight runs scored and walks and 14 strikeouts.
Over 111 games and 416 plate appearances overall this season, the first baseman and outfielder has a .279 average and .375 OBP. He's posted 99 hits, including 16 homers, 17 doubles and one triple. O'Hearn also has 53 RBIs and runs scored, 50 walks, three stolen bases and 77 strikeouts.
The fact that he can play first base and in the outfield is a plus for his fantasy outlook. Those are loaded positions, so his own percentage would be higher otherwise.
He's been a pretty good deep-league fantasy asset most of the season, and has standard league streaming value when he's going right at the plate. O'Hearn could be added in some standard leagues now.
I also think there's probably some hotter hitters at first base/outfield on the waiver wire worth adding, and they might be better long-term options. If you need help at both spots though, then grabbing O'Hearn makes sense to me.
Should You Add Carson Williams?
Williams was added in 3.51% of leagues, bringing his overall mark up to 9.29%.
He got called up to the big leagues on Thursday to help the Rays out a bit. Williams is the No. 47 prospect in baseball.
The 22-year-old shortstop is 6-foot-2 and weighs 180 pounds. He was a first-round pick of Tampa Bay back in 2021.
He's got a 55 grade overall, with a 70 mark for his arm and fielding. Williams is a 40-grade hitter, has 60-grade power and has a 55 mark for running.
In parts of four minor league seasons, Williams has a .247 average and .345 OBP over 465 games. He has collected 431 hits, including 79 doubles, 85 homers and 29 triples. Williams has 236 walks, 320 runs scored, 283 RBIs and a whopping 637 strikeouts, while also stealing 105 bases.
In 111 Triple-A games this season, he has a .213 average and .318 OBP, along with 55 walks and 154 strikeouts. He has 12 doubles, five triples and 23 homers among his 83 total hits, and has 22 stolen bases, 55 RBIs and 72 runs scored.
He's known more for his defensive skills, but his power makes him an intriguing fantasy asset. Williams strikes out a ton, so be prepared for some negative fantasy showings if strikeouts work against you.
He's still worth adding in some deeper leagues, just in case he takes off as a big leaguer. All fantasy owners need to keep an eye on him, but I'm personally thinking he tops out as a deep-league asset this season.
Should You Add Jhostynxon Garcia?
Garcia is up 3.11% today, and is now owned in 8.44% of leagues overall.
He also is getting called up to the big leagues for the first time. Garcia is the No. 77 prospect in the MLB.
Garcia is 22 years old as well - he stands 6-feet tall and weighs just 163 pounds. He was signed by Boston in 2019 and wasn't expected to debut until 2026.
He's got a 55 overall grade as a prospect, with his highest grade being a 60-grade arm. Garcia has a 55 mark for his power, 50s in running and fielding and a 45 for his hitting.
In five minor league seasons, Garcia has a .267 average and .358 OBP over 355 games. He has 346 total hits, including 67 doubles, 54 homers and 21 triples. Garcia also has 207 RBIs, 249 runs scored, 164 walks, 41 stolen bases and 358 strikeouts.
He's got a .289 average and .363 OBP between 99 combined games at Double-A and Triple-A this season. Garcia has 20 homers, 17 doubles and four triples among his 110 total knocks, while also recording 73 RBIs, 71 runs scored, 43 walks, six stolen bases and 110 strikeouts.
The outfielder is a decent hitter and in time could become a real fantasy asset. You never know how a prospect is going to acclimate to the big leagues, so everyone needs to be keeping an eye on him.
Garcia is also worth an add in deeper fantasy leagues for now, but could get into standard leagues later this season.
Should You Add Ben Rice?
Rice is up 1.93% and sits at 65.93% overall.
Rice is riding a three-game hitting streak, tallying two homers and a triple among four hits in that span. He has two RBIs and runs scored, two walks and two strikeouts as well.
In August, Rice has a .310 average and .397 OBP, so that shows why he's on the rise. He has 12 RBIs, six runs scored, nine walks and 13 strikeouts. Among his 18 hits, he has four doubles and homers and one triple.
Overall, the catcher and first baseman has played in 107 games and gotten 409 plate appearances. Rice has 86 total hits, including 20 homers, 21 doubles and three triples. He also has 47 RBIs, 55 runs scored, 43 walks, three stolen bases and 81 strikeouts.
The fact that he can play first and catcher is big for his fantasy value. He doesn't have a great average (.243) or OBP (.338), but his power numbers make him a decent fantasy option overall. He needs to be rostered in all deeper leagues for the remainder of the season, at least.
Rice is worth an add in standard leagues with how he's looked in August so far. First base is a loaded fantasy position, but he's outperforming a lot of catchers right now, so he could fill in there for you for a while. Utilize him before he cools off.
Should You Add Shane Bieber?
Bieber is up to 81% rostered as he gets ready for his first big league start of the year.
He will be making a start against the Marlins, which is an average-or-so fantasy matchup.
Bieber has looked good in his minor league rehab appearances. Over seven starts, he went 1-1 with a 1.86 earned run average over 29 innings. He allowed six runs on 22 hits and three walks, while punching out 37 batters.
When healthy, Bieber has been one of the top pitchers in the big leagues. Over 843 career innings, Bieber owns a 3.22 ERA, a 62-32 record and a 1.12 WHIP. He has 958 strikeouts in that timeframe.
You can see by his own mark how much fantasy owners still respect him. He'll creep close to 100% before his start is made today, and a good outing will get him there before his second start.
If you are looking to add Bieber, now would be the time to add him.
