Top Fantasy Baseball Waiver Wire Pitcher Pickups Include Matthew Liberatore and Andrew Abbott

Looking at a few waiver wire pitchers to consider adding in fantasy baseball leagues.

After taking a peek at some fantasy baseball waiver wire hitting options, let's now go over some waiver wire pitchers.

We won't cover anyone we talked about on Monday or Tuesday, or any of the daily streaming options.

Check out the top fantasy baseball waiver wire options everyday on FantasySP.

Should You Add Matthew Liberatore?

Liberatore is up 4.02% today, bringing his overall mark to 54.26%.

He's been really good across seven starts this season. Liberatore is 3-3, but with a 3.07 earned run average. He has allowed 15 runs (14 earned) on 33 hits and six walks, while striking out 38 batters over 41 innings.

Liberatore is getting his first full-time chance to stick in the rotation, and he's pitching well enough to keep his spot. He has a career 4.63 ERA across 98 total MLB appearances, but only 31 of those have been starts.

Liberatore allowed three runs against the Angels in his first start of the season, then surrendered five runs against the Pirates in his next outing. In the five starts since, Liberatore has allowed two or less runs.

He's faced the Phillies, Mets, Brewers, Reds and Pirates in that span, so a mix of good and poor offenses. Liberatore has worked at least six frames in four of those starts, while allowing six or less hits in each contest.

Liberatore is a bit underrated as a fantasy asset right now. He's starting to get more attention, but I still think he's not owned in enough leagues.

Liberatore is a deep-league redraft keeper in my eyes, and then has standard league streaming value against weaker-hitting teams. He could face the Phillies and Royals in his next two outings. Liberatore already turned in a good outing against Philly, so I'd be happy to start him in either start in all league types.

He's not a must-add fantasy player, but I believe Liberatore needs to be rostered in all deeper leagues. His own percentage should rise as his next start approaches.

Should You Add Grant Holmes?

Holmes is up 3.92% today and is now at 39.79% overall.

He's made six starts across seven MLB appearances this season. Holmes is 2-2 with a 4.24 ERA. He's allowed 16 runs on 22 hits and 19 walks, while striking out 35 batters over 34 innings.

Holmes has a start in which he allowed four runs, and another in which he gave up six runs. In the other four starts, he's given up three or less runs. Holmes has covered at least 5 2/3 innings in four straight outings.

He is a streaming option on Wednesday against the Reds, which sets up as a favorable test for Holmes. After facing the Padres, Dodgers, Phillies, Blue Jays, Twins, Diamondbacks and Dodgers again, this might be Holmes' most favorable opponent yet.

I'd still only want to stream Holmes in deeper leagues for today's start. If he pitches well in today's start, he could be held onto, as his next start against the Nationals is also pretty favorable.

He'd need several favorable starts in a row, or better pitching results, to become a fantasy keeper for the long run.

Should You Add Tyler Anderson?

Anderson is rostered in 46.89% of leagues after a 3.42% increase today.

He just made his seventh start of the season. Anderson is now 2-0 with a 2.68 ERA across 40 1/3 innings. He's allowed 13 runs (12 earned) on 27 hits and 15 walks, while punching out 34 batters.

Anderson has worked at least five innings in every outing this season, while going over six innings in each of his past four starts. He hasn't allowed more than three runs in any start, and has surrendered six or less hits in each contest.

Walks are an issue, with two or more free passes in all but two appearances so far. Anderson has at least four strikeouts in all but one game, with three games at six or more Ks.

Anderson is off to a great start in 2025, but it's probably not sustainable for the whole season. That's why his own percentage isn't any higher.

He has a career 4.21 ERA across 212 career games and 204 starts. Anderson did have a 3.81 ERA across 31 starts last season, so there's a chance he improves on that mark in 2025.

His strikeout mark is right around his career average, while his walks are up, so there's also a chance those decrease in time. His WHIP is 0.2 down from his career mark, so even if the walks decrease, the hits and runs could increase in time.

He's still pitching well enough to trust in a lot of his starts. Anderson could face the Orioles and Dodgers over his next two outings. He's going to be a good option against Baltimore, while being a better deep-league asset against Los Angeles.

I'd be fine rostering Anderson in deeper redraft leagues for now. He's pitched well enough to at least hold him for the time being. Anderson can be a standard league streamer in favorable matchups.

In time, I see regression coming, at which point Anderson will probably be dropped in a good amount of leagues, then just be a streaming option in all leagues for some starts. We'll keep an eye on him and update you as the season rolls along.

Should You Add Mike Soroka?

Soroka is owned in just 7% of fantasy leagues synced through FantasySP. He's only made one MLB appearance this season, but was activated from the injured list today.

Soroka took a loss against the Blue Jays in his only start of the season. He allowed four runs on five hits and a walk over five innings, while striking out three batters.

He made three rehab starts to build back up. Soroka struck out 18 batters over 12 innings, while allowing five runs.

Soroka will start against the Guardians on Wednesday, which is an average-or-worse matchup for him. Still, with an own percentage as low as Soroka has, he's worth talking about.

I wouldn't be thrilled to start Soroka on Wednesday, unless it was a really deep league. He's still worth adding in some of those deeper fantasy setups though, and if he excels in that start, he could be an even bigger waiver asset moving forward.

Keep tabs on his first start and add him if he pitches well on Wednesday. His next start against the Braves is a touch more favorable, at least at this point.

Should You Add Andrew Abbott?

Abbott is rostered in 40% of fantasy leagues at this point.

He made his fifth start of the season on Tuesday, working five scoreless innings against the Braves. Abbott struck out eight batters and allowed just four hits.

He's 2-0 with a 2.25 ERA across 24 innings so far this season. Abbott has allowed seven runs (six earned) on 16 hits and 12 walks, while striking out 31 batters.

He's mostly faced weaker-hitting teams so far, so regression is likely coming. Abbott has a career 3.65 ERA across 51 MLB starts over the past three years, so there's also a chance he's upped his pitching this season.

His next couple starts could come against the Astros and Guardians. Abbott is at least a deep-league fantasy starting option for those starts, and he'll probably get some standard league streaming love with how he's pitched so far this season.

I think Abbott should be rostered in most deeper redraft leagues right now, along with being a good standard league streaming option every start. If he keeps pitching as well as he has, Abbott could become a standard league keeper too.
