Week 2 Fantasy Football Expert Picks: Ja'Marr Chase, Christian McCaffrey, and More
The experts at FantasySP answer five questions about Week 2 of the fantasy football season.
After one week of football, it's easy to think that we have a lot of things figured out in the fantasy football world. We know who will lead backfields, which teams will split carries, and all the Super Bowl favorites; nothing will change from here, right?
Of course, things will change over the course of just this week, let alone the rest of the season, and it's up to prudent owners to adapt to that shifting landscape. That means more questions than answers are still among us, bringing plenty of uncertainty.
Luckily, the experts at FantasySP are here to help. Morgan Rode and Daniel Hepner answered five questions heading into the weekend of Week 2 of NFL football.

1. Which quarterback is better left on the bench in Week 2 due to a tough matchup?
Morgan: I think fantasy owners need to be cautious with Trevor Lawrence this week. He takes on the Broncos, who allowed a bunch of fantasy points to Patrick Mahomes on Monday night, but that was boosted by a QB rushing score. Lawrence had his way with the Browns in Week 1, but things might be a bit tougher in Week 2, so expectations need to be tempered a bit.
Daniel: Jacoby Brissett has been a volume passer since taking over as Arizona's starter last season, throwing the ball around 40 times per game, including 37 attempts in Week 1. While he might again rack up numbers through the sheer will of his offensive coordinator, Brissett also has a brutal matchup against Seattle, one of the best defenses in football. Every Cardinal outside of Trey McBride is highly suspect in fantasy this week.
2. Do you have a running back who you are expecting to have a big Week 2 who should be in lineups in most or all leagues?
Morgan: Aside from the obvious guys, I'll say Minnesota running back Aaron Jones Sr. (Jordan Mason is on IR after undergoing thumb surgery). The Bears are their matchup, and they were gashed in Week 1 by Carolina. There is no longer a split backfield issue with Mason injured, so Jones has the upside to have a huge week for the Vikings.
Daniel: David Montgomery started the season strong with 79 total yards and three touchdowns against the Bills in Week 1. While he was inefficient, he now faces a vulnerable run defense in Cincinnati, a team that allowed the second-most yards per pass attempt and the most fantasy points to running backs last season. Bucky Irving averaged 5.6 yards per carry against the Bengals last week and added 48 yards on seven receptions, and with Montgomery leading the way in Houston, he's in line for a possible big game.
3. How about a wide receiver who is set up to struggle given the tough defense he is facing?
Morgan: I'm staying away from the Colts' receivers in their matchup against the Chiefs. Kansas City's defense was stout on Monday night, while Indy's offense didn't look great in Week 1. The combination of the two makes guys like Alec Pierce, Josh Downs, and Keenan Allen players to skip in standard leagues.
Daniel: Morgan talked about Jacksonville's Lawrence possibly struggling against Denver above, and that worry extends to his wide receivers. On top of the rough matchup, Parker Washington, Jakobi Meyers, and Brian Thomas Jr. have to share targets, bringing the worry that one or two may siphon targets from the other(s). Washington has maybe emerged as the best option of the group (and led the way in Week 1), but I'm very hesitant to trust any of the three (especially Meyers or Thomas) in this one, even as a WR3/4/flex.
4. Give us a tight end you expect to have a good week and maybe find the end zone.
Morgan: If Chig Okonkwo is active against Dallas, I'd like to try that matchup after the Cowboys allowed TEs to go for 87 yards and two scores in Week 1. If Okonkwo is out, give me the other starting TE in that game, Jake Ferguson. He struggled in Week 1, but he takes on a Washington defense that allowed tight ends to tally 77 yards and two touchdowns in Week 1.
Daniel: Harold Fannin Jr. was held to just two catches and 21 yards in Week 1, a disappointing start after a surprising rookie season. He gets a much better matchup this week against Tampa Bay, though, a team that allowed the sixth-most yards per pass attempt and the fifth-most fantasy points per game to tight ends last season. Mike Gesicki had five catches, 78 yards, and a touchdown against the Bucs in Week 1, and Fannin could approach all those numbers in this one.
5. Who is going to be the fantasy MVP of Week 2?
Morgan: I'll say Ja'Marr Chase bounces back in a big way and delivers a monster fantasy score against Houston. The Texans were ripped apart by the Bills in Week 1, and I like the Bengals' offense more, so I expect Chase to deliver like the high-end fantasy wideout he typically is.
Daniel: The Miami Dolphins might have the worst roster in football (though a couple other teams have strong cases), and they are facing a 49ers team that just thoroughly dominated the Rams in Week 1. Christian McCaffrey's top end might be hurt a little by the emergence of rookie Kaelon Black after just one week, but McCaffrey will surely get plenty of work this week and could find the end zone a couple times after not scoring in Week 1.
