A low-cost trade with upside potential gives the Eagles another WR option, while the Packers reshape their receiver hierarchy. We also cover a veteran tight end and his future.

The NFL is pretty quiet right now, but things will heat up when the NFL Draft hits in a few weeks. Here, I wanted to take a look at some recent news and transactions.

We have a trade to discuss, which will be the bulk of this article. There's a another player I want to hit on before wrapping up as well.

Eagles Land Receiver from Packers

The Philadelphia Eagles and Green Bay Packers made a trade on Friday. Philly acquired wide receiver Dontayvion Wicks, with Green Bay getting a 2026 fifth-round pick (from the Falcons) and a 2027 sixth-round pick (from the Eagles).

The deal had a bit more to it, as Wicks was extended by the Eagles. Philly gave him a one-year extension worth $12.5 million.

Wicks was a fifth-round pick of the Packers in 2023. In three years and over 46 games (18 starts), Wicks had 1,328 yards and 11 touchdowns on 108 catches and 180 targets. He had just 332 yards and two scores over 14 games a season ago.

This might not look like a huge deal based on the compensation the Packers got back, but the extension Wicks got suggests that the Eagles like Wicks and view him as a future asset for the team.

Of course, the status of A.J. Brown has been the big question mark all offseason for Philly. The Eagles have added to the wideout room this offseason with the signings of Marquise Brown and Elijah Moore, and the trade for Wicks adds more depth to that room.

If A.J. Brown is eventually traded, the Eagles will still have some talent around. At the price of the extension, Philly might also give Wicks a bit bigger role than most think too.

Right now, Wicks is projected to be a backup behind DeVonta Smith. A.J. Brown and Marquise Brown are the other projected starters. Wicks could push Marquise Brown for the starting role, or start if the Eagles eventually move A.J. Brown.

Wicks looks like a deep-league fantasy asset right now, but he could factor in enough to eventually get into standard leagues. He's a player to keep tabs on.

Aside from the several Philly receivers I've mentioned, the team also rosters Darius Cooper, Johnny Wilson, Quez Watkins, Danny Gray and Britain Covey. The addition of Wicks likely means that the “other” wideouts either won't make the team, or won't factor in too much, unless A.J. Brown is traded, or a starter or two go down with injuries.

The Eagles' offense also has tight end Dallas Goedert yet, so behind A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith, there's not a ton of room for a third or fourth receiver to be consistently involved. Another trade, or an injury, could change things, but for now, A.J. Brown, Smith and Goedert still are the best fantasy pass catchers on the team, and then it's a free-for-all for the remaining looks and production in the passing game.

In Green Bay, trading Wicks makes some sense given the talent the Packers have in the wideout room. They still have Christian Watson, Jayden Reed and Matthew Golden to lead the way, with Skyy Moore, Savion Williams, Bo Melton, Jakobie Keeney-James, Isaiah Neyor and Will Sheppard as other options right now.

Green Bay could add to that room in the draft, but it'll likely be a later pick, and just a depth option in 2026, unless another move is made, or injuries hit.

The Packers have tight end Tucker Kraft as well, and Luke Musgrave is another option at that position. There are enough pass catchers around to hold things down, if the Packers don't draft or acquire any more this offseason.

The trade of Wicks opens the door for Golden to be more involved in 2026. He was a bust in his rookie season, but more playing time could lead to more for the young wideout in 2026.

Watson appears to be WR1, and Reed is another good option. Those two and Kraft are the top fantasy pass catchers right now, and Golden is a good No. 4 option. There's not much room for anyone else, unless there's another move or injuries, so the trade of Wicks gives everyone else a better chance to shine.

Maybe the inconsistencies of the Packers' pass catchers will decrease with less capable bodies available.

Ertz Still Looking to Play

Tight end Zach Ertz is still an unrestricted free agent after suffering an ACL tear in week 14 of the 2025 season. At 35 years old, it makes sense that teams aren't chasing Ertz, but the tight end said he hopes to play again.

Ertz has been a fantasy asset over his career, and still was playing at a decent level in 2025. In 13 games, he had 504 yards and four scores over 50 receptions and 72 targets. Ertz had 654 yards and seven scores across 66 catches and 91 targets in 17 games in 2024.

If he's able to get past this injury, there's a chance he could help someone out in 2026.

He makes the most sense on a contending team, but could also be added to a team lacking at tight end. Ertz is probably best served being a No. 2 TE or a 1A/1B option at this point of his career, and coming off the injury, but that doesn't mean he couldn't produce in 2026.

I'll be interested to see where Ertz ends up landing. We can cover that signing, if it ever comes about.
