FAAB bid ranges for some of the hottest QB and TE names on the waiver wire heading into Week 7.

Bye weeks bring an extra question in FAAB: How much is it worth to pay for a one-week fill-in streamer on the waiver wire? Quarterback and tight end are two of the positions where streaming happens most, so it's a prevalent question.

If you drafted a guy like Josh Allen, you probably didn't take a backup. If you need a streamer when Allen is on bye, it's best not to spend more than a dollar or two. If you have plenty of budget left and want to put in a small bid just for the sake of securing a streamer, that's fine, but don't shell out $10 for a middling player who you will only use once.

Let's look at some of the hottest quarterback and tight end names on the waiver wire and reasonable FAAB bids that make sense for each. Your numbers might change a little depending on your roster needs and remaining budget, but this is a good baseline to start from. All bids are based on a $100 budget.

Quarterback

Jacoby Brissett, Arizona Cardinals

Kyler Murray missed the Week 6 game against the Colts, leaving Brissett in charge of the offense. The veteran backup had a good performance, throwing for 320 yards on 7.3 per attempt with two touchdowns and an interception. That performance had him at QB6 before Monday's games.

Brissett is one of the better backup quarterbacks in the league, but he has a low ceiling, one of the reasons he has been relegated to second-string status most of his career. His 320 yards were great, but it took 44 attempts to get there; that's not going to happen often.

If he were starting every week, Brissett would be a streamer at best, a player to only put in your lineup in the very best situations. He's also not likely to start much longer. Murray might miss more time, but Arizona's bye comes after next week's game against Green Bay. A likely scenario would see Murray miss Week 7 but then return after the bye.

We have a low-ceiling player here who probably won't be in the lineup much longer; that's not a guy you want to spend FAAB money on. The upcoming matchup against the Packers is a tough one, so he's not even a good one-week fill-in. Brissett isn't a fantasy option unless you're desperate.

Sam Darnold, Seattle Seahawks

Darnold just keeps performing. Jacksonville had been a stout defensive unit prior to Week 6, and Darnold had his way with the Jaguars, throwing for nearly 300 yards on 10.9 per attempt with two touchdowns and no interceptions.

Darnold is now completing over 70% of his passes at 9.6 yards per attempt, averaging 256.8 yards per game with 11 touchdowns and three interceptions. That has him at QB11 heading into Monday night, a solid placing considering that he never runs the ball (40 total rushing yards).

That last nugget is what keeps me from believing that Darnold can be a consistent fantasy starter. So many quarterbacks produce on the ground now that those who don't are missing a key piece of the fantasy scoring puzzle. While Darnold has to be great throwing the ball for a top fantasy day, someone like Jaxson Dart, for instance, can mix uneven passing performances with consistent running, using two paths toward fantasy relevance.

Darnold is a good player to have as part of a rotation where you play the quarterback with the better matchup. A mix of Darnold and Jared Goff, for instance, would be a fantastic pairing that would allow owners to choose between two successful passers depending on matchups, injuries, byes, and anything else that might come up.

I like the idea of Darnold on a fantasy team but not as a savior. If you are completely without an option at QB or in a deep league, he can come in and be a weekly option who will at least put up numbers that you can sustain with, but Darnold isn't going to carry your team to victory often.

Jaxson Dart, New York Giants

Dart has started three games and is QB7 during those three weeks; he is averaging over 20 fantasy points per game. That came against the Saints and two tough defenses in the Chargers and Eagles, an impressive start to Dart's career.

I was skeptical of counting on the rookie right away because of those tough matchups. I saw him struggling early but then settling in as the schedule lightened up and Dart got a little seasoning under his belt. Turns out that first part wasn't necessary, and we just went right to the positive fantasy work.

He finally had an above-average day throwing the ball on Thursday night against Philadelphia after averaging less than 5.5 yards per pass attempt in his first two games. Dart averaged 7.8 yards per attempt, threw a touchdown, and added 58 yards and another score on the ground. He has topped 50 rushing yards in all three games and scored twice.

I still want to preach caution, but Dart has shown he is a real fantasy asset because of how he runs the ball. Anyone without a weekly starter at QB would do well to pick up Dart, even to use as part of a rotation, like Darnold. The rookie has a higher upside because of his prowess with his legs.

Tight End

Harold Fannin, Cleveland Browns

Despite consistent usage, Fannin is still owned in only about 25% of leagues. He is just outside the top 10 tight ends in both standard and PPR scoring, averaging 4.7 receptions and 42.3 yards per game.

That's not great, and he has scored just one touchdown, but at a position where it's hard to find good fantasy players, Fannin's involvement makes him a player worth considering in the right matchups.

Week 6 against Pittsburgh was one of those matchups, and Fannin finished with seven catches on 10 targets for 81 yards. It took his quarterback throwing 52 times to get there, something that won't happen every week, but the Browns have thrown more passes than any other team, so there is opportunity.

While Fannin gets usage, he plays in a low-level passing game; that caps his ceiling. He's worthy of a spot on a fantasy roster and can be a starter in the right matchups. That's not worth a ton of FAAB money, but it's worth throwing down a few bucks if you have a need at the position.

Taysom Hill, New Orleans Saints

Hill has played in two games since returning from a major knee injury suffered last season. He hasn't been on the field much, playing nine snaps in Week 5 and 12 snaps in Week 6.

He has shown a little of the versatility that he offers, and that's what puts Hill here as a player worth mentioning. His stats aren't worthy of a fantasy spot right now: one pass attempt (which was completed for 19 yards), seven rush attempts (for zero total yards), and one rushing touchdown.

He hasn't been going out for routes regularly the way he was prior to the injury, but maybe that will come with more time. If he gets back to contributing as a passer, runner, and receiver in each game, Hill will be a fantasy player again; even two of the three isn't bad.

For now, just keep an eye on Hill and remember what he can be at his best, which is something close to a weekly fantasy starter. That would be a best-case scenario but making it to a streaming level is a more reasonable outcome.

Chig Okonkwo, Tennessee Titans

Okonkwo caught all six of his targets for 46 yards on Sunday. That has been a common theme this season: volume but low efficiency. Okonkwo is on pace to blow away his career highs in receptions and yards but still hasn't found the end zone, something that will be an ongoing issue in a poor offense.

There is both a low ceiling and a low floor here. It's easy to look at the receptions and think that he can be a PPR play, but Okonkwo just doesn't get the ball enough or with the required explosion to make a consistent fantasy impact.

Okonkwo also functions as something of a stand-in for other tight ends who follow the same low-level fantasy play; there's no need to spend FAAB money on those players, as they don't cost anything on the free agent market.
