Summary

Benson has the size and speed to transition into a work-horse back on the next level. In a class that isn't particularly strong at the position during an era when the bell-cow back is going extinct, he has a shot to be a guy who handles a massive workload. The physical talent is all there. Granted, his game isn't quite as polished as some studs we've seen come right out of college, but there is no reason he can't get there by his sophomore season in the right system with some solid coaching.

His combination of power and explosiveness can cause all types of problems for opposing defenses. There is elusiveness there as well, however, at times it can hinder him more than it helps him. If he learns to just lower his shoulder pads, explode through the hole, and pile up yards then some team is going to get a steal on Day 2 of the 2024 NFL Draft

Strengths

- Ideal size and build for an NFL running back

- Very explosive for his size

- Runs with the ability to power through defenders

- Impressive agility for his size

- Has the long speed for the home run play

- Is tough to deal with when he gets going downhill

- Good vision

- Decent receiver with room to get better

- Good hands

Weaknesses

- Takes a ton of contact which could wear him down

- Not overly elusive in the open field

- Lacks elite hip flexibility

- Can be indecisive at times

- Uses extra moves when he can be running through defenders

- Not skilled in pass protection despite possessing the strength to get the job done

Our Take

There are three backs that we graded out as second-round locks and Benson is one of them. We like his upside as an every-down back and he has the build and skill to be a difference-maker in the NFL. In this class that isn't the case with too many backs.

As long as he can improve on a few minor issues the sky is the limit for this kid. It will be interesting to see where he lands because he could be very productive if he lands on a team that doesn't have an established RB1 in front of him.
