Week 3 Fantasy Football Injury Report: Trey Lance Out For Season, Mike Evans Suspended
After two weeks of the fantasy football season, many injuries have taken place that will affect your fantasy roster. Notably, 49ers QB Trey Lance will miss the remainder of the season as a result of a broken ankle. WR Mike Evans is not injured, but is suspended in Week 3 as a result of nearly causeing a serious injury to Saints CB Marshon Latimore when he chose to blindside him like a coward. Let’s take a look at the severity of the injuries that are keeping players sidelined in Week 3.
QB Trey Lance, San Francisco 49ers (Broken Ankle, Out for Season)
Trey Lance broke his ankle midway through Sunday’s Week 2 game against the Seattle Seahawks. Fortunately for the 49ers, they offered former starting QB Jimmy Garopollo a $10 million contract to stay in San Francisco this season. With Lance expected to undergo season-ending surgery soon, Jimmy G will be the 49ers starting QB for the remainder of the year. Fantasy owners will be scrambling to claim him from waivers and there is a good chance that if you try to pick him up, you won’t be able to. Nonetheless, keep an eye out for Garoppollo in waivers even though he will be picked up very rapidly.
RB James Conner, Arizona Cardinals (Ankle, Questionable)
James Conner left Sunday’s contest due to an ankle injury and did not return. However, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported today that Conner’s injury isn’t very severe.
Conner should be good to go for Week 3. Though he didn't play after tweaking his ankle on Sunday, Conner remained suited up on the sidelines and stayed on the field as opposed to being carted off of the field. If Conner isn't able to go, we should see Eno Benjamin and Darrel Williams split the word out of the backfield in Week 3.
WR Devin Duvernay, Baltimore Ravens (Concussion, Questionable)
Devin Duvernay took a big hit to the helmet after coming down with a big 16-yard catch during the fourth quarter of Sunday’s game. Concussion protocols can be unclear so we’ll have to wait and see throughout the week whether or not Duvernay will suit up in Week 3. This is an injury to monior.
WR Jerry Jeudy, Denver Broncos (Ribs, Questionable)
Third-year WR Jerry Jeudy left Sunday’s game with a rib injury and did not return. Jeudy also took a big hit to his right shoulder on Sunday but his ribs are the major concern. The good news for the young wideout is that X-rays he took last night came back negative.
At the moment, Jeudy is still awaiting results from further testing and should be considered questionable for Week 3. If Jeudy is out in Week 3, expect K.J. Hamler to see more targets while Courtland Sutton remains the team’s top wideout.
RB Alvin Kamara, New Orleans Saints (Ribs, Questionable)
Alvin Kamara has been dealing with an injury to his ribs since Week 1. He was questionable heading into Sunday’s game but was ruled out of the contest just hours before kickoff. The injury is being described as a “rib cartilage issue” which means it is a frustrating injury yet not as severe as a fracture. Last week, the issue with Kamara’s ribs limited him in practice on Wednesday and kept him out of the Saints practices on Thursday and Friday. We’ll have to see as the week moves on whether Kamara will be ready to suit up in Week 3. As a result of Kamara being sidelined, Mark Ingram reclaimed his role as the Saints starting RB for the first time in years.
RB J.K. Dobbins, Baltimore Ravens (Knee, Questionable)
At the moment, the Baltimore Ravens are severely lacking depth at RB, with Kenyan Drake leading the way at the moment. They are impatiently waiting for their guy J.K. Dobbins to make his season debut after tearing his ACL last season. For his sake, I hope he’s ready to go in Week 3.

WR Mike Evans, Tampa Bay Buccaneers (Suspended, Out for Week 3)
Mike Evans acted like a coward on Sunday and blindsided Marshon Lattimore after a scuffle broke out between the Saints CB and Tampa Bay RB Leonard Fournette. Fournette punched Lattimore, which immediately accelerated the scuffle.
Evans then bursted out of nowhere to dangerously blindside the Saints’ star CB. As a result of Evans’ disgusting play, he was suspended for Week 3. This isn’t the first time that Mike Evans has blindsided Marshon Lattimore as he did it in 2017 when Jameis Winston was Tampa’s QB. Evans absolutely got what he deserved as violent cheap shots like this are not only cowardly, but they have the potential to be highly dangerous. Evans clearly escalated the situation, not to mention that Bruce Arians and the Buccaneers coaching staff did everything they could to stir things up more.
QB Justin Herbert, Los Angeles Chargers (Ribs, Questionable)
Justin Herbert took a hit to the ribs late in Thursday night’s game but stayed on the field and almost led his Chargers to an impressive comeback while playing through the pain. Shortly after the game finished, it was reported that Herbert suffered fractured rib cartilage.
