Fantasy Baseball Waiver Wire Pitchers: Best Adds & Streamers for Tuesday
Target these pitchers for short-term value, favorable matchups, and recent momentum.
It's time for our second round of fantasy baseball waiver wire articles of the week!
Here, let's go over some pitchers. Check back later for a waiver wire story on hitters.
Fantasy baseball waiver wire options can be found all season on FantasySP!
Nick Martinez - Tampa Bay Rays
Martinez is up 3.87% today, which brings his overall mark to 33.02%.
Martinez is 1-1 with a 2.10 earned run average over 30 innings pitched this season. He has allowed seven runs on 25 hits and eight walks, while striking out 20.
He's coming off an eight-inning outing against the Reds in which he earned his win. Martinez allowed a run on five hits and a walk, while striking out six. He's allowed two or fewer runs in every start.
Martinez has been good early on, but doesn't have a ton of strikeouts, so his fantasy ceiling isn't as high as others. He's still worth trying in deeper leagues, especially in a good matchup against the Guardians. He could even be considered in standard leagues tonight.
Davis Martin - Chicago White Sox
Martin has been picked up in 3.38% of leagues and is rostered in 61.37% overall.
He is starting tonight against the Angels, which is a good matchup to try. Martin is more on the rise because of what he's done this season.
Across five starts, Martin is 3-1 with a 2.01 ERA over 31 1/3 innings. He's allowed seven runs on 25 hits and seven walks, while striking out 26 batters.
Because of how he's pitched so far and the matchup he has, Martin is a very good deep-league option tonight. I also wouldn't mind trying him in standard leagues.
Payton Tolle - Boston Red Sox
Tolle is up 4.92% and now he sits at 66.36% overall.
Tolle is making a start against the Blue Jays tonight. Toronto has started the year slowly, but isn't the best streaming matchup yet.
In his first start, Tolle worked six innings against a good Yankees' lineup. He allowed a run on three hits and one walk, while striking out 11.
That first start makes Tolle worth trying tonight. He's at least worth starting in deeper leagues, and I'd also be OK trying him in standard leagues tonight. Tolle is someone to hold if he continues to excel on the hill.
Clay Holmes - New York Mets
Holmes is rostered in 67% of fantasy leagues right now. He hasn't been that high since mid-April.
Holmes is starting tonight against the Nationals, which is a good matchup on paper. Holmes has also been good so far this season.
In five starts, he is 2-2 with a 2.10 ERA over 30 innings. Holmes has allowed seven runs on 21 hits and 10 walks, while striking out 19.
He's another starting pitcher who I like trying in deeper leagues and some standard ones today. Holmes is worth holding until his numbers fall off.
Casey Mize - Detroit Tigers
Mize has been picked up in 3.41% of leagues, bringing his overall mark to 72.06%.
Mize is making a start tonight against the Braves tonight. That's not a great matchup on paper, but Mize has pitched well this season.
Over five starts, Mize is 2-1 with a 2.51 ERA over 28 2/3 innings. He's allowed eight runs on 23 hits and 10 walks, while striking out 32 batters.
Mize is worth trying tonight because of how he's pitched, not because of the matchup he has. I'm fine trying him in deeper or standard leagues, but just temper expectations because of his tougher matchup.
Bryan Baker - Tampa Bay Rays
Baker is up 4.66% today, bringing his overall mark to 46.98%.
Baker is on a heater of late, earning three saves over the past four days. He has seven saves now on the season across 12 appearances.
He is 1-0 with two blown saves as well. He has worked 11 1/3 innings, allowing four runs on nine hits and three walks, while striking out 13 batters.
Baker is trending up, and the Rays are winning enough to support him as a fantasy asset. He's a very good deep-league asset right now, and he is even worth adding in some standard leagues. If he continues to serve as the team's closer and earn saves, his own percentage will continue to grow, so if you aren't ready to add him today, be ready to pounce down the line.
