Spencer Horwitz and Andrew Vaughn Among Tuesday's Fantasy Baseball Waiver Wire Adds

It's time for the second fantasy baseball waiver wire story of the week.

We won't cover anyone who appeared in Monday's story, or Tuesday's streaming pitcher article.

Should You Add Spencer Horwitz?

Horwitz is up 6% so far today and sits at 22% overall.

He's been on a tear at the plate lately, collecting five hits over his past two games and 20 hits over his past 14 contests. Horwitz has three homers and four doubles among those 20 hits, along with 15 RBIs, 10 runs scored, six walks and nine strikeouts.

Horwitz homered twice on Sunday, while also driving in six runs. He added two more hits on Monday, and appears to be settling in after a late start to his season.

Horwitz has played in just 62 games and gotten 245 plate appearances this season. He has a .264 average and .335 on-base percentage to this point. Horwitz has 58 total hits, including 14 doubles and five home runs, along with 31 RBIs, 29 runs scored, 23 walks and 51 strikeouts.

He was a possible fantasy asset at the start of the season, but his late start to the season led to him being dropped in most formats. Horwitz hasn't performed all that well until recently, so it makes sense to see his own percentage where it is.

He's played first base exclusively this season, but should have eligibility at second base from past seasons. Horwitz is batting leadoff now, but only starting against right-handed starting pitchers, so that limits his fantasy outlook a touch.

I like what Horwitz has shown of late, and think he's an underrated fantasy asset in deeper leagues. If you need some help at first base, or second base, Horwitz could be a nice pickup now. It might not be a long-term pickup, but I'd at least utilize Horwitz while he's hot at the plate.

I don't think he'll ever become a great standard league option, but you just never know. He's worth keeping an eye on at least. Right now he could be a standard league streamer, but I'd prefer to look elsewhere for long-term help.

Should You Add Andrew Vaughn?

Vaughn is up another 5.6% and is at 69.6% overall.

Vaughn continues to mash for the Brewers, and now he's hitting in the heart of the team's lineup, so his fantasy outlook is growing by the day. He's been a popular waiver wire add for a week-plus now.

He is riding a 10-game hitting streak, and has 17 hits over that span. Vaughn has four homers and two doubles among the hits, along with 12 RBIs, nine runs scored, three walks and six strikeouts.

Vaughn has a .371 average and .432 OBP over 20 games and 81 plate appearances with the Crew. He has six homers and four doubles among his 26 total knocks, and has added 24 RBIs, 13 runs scored, nine walks and 10 strikeouts.

He is flashing the high upside a former No. 3 overall pick should be. The move from the White Sox to the Brewers might have revitalized Vaughn's career.

Vaughn is starting daily now and has hit third in three straight games. He could move down when Jackson Chourio or Sal Frelick are back in the lineup, but Vaughn appears to have a starting spot locked in for now.

Rhys Hoskins is expected to be back at the end of this month, or early in September, so it will be interesting to see how they get both guys in the lineup. If Vaughn is still raking at the dish, they aren't going to sit him.

Even if Vaughn's fantasy outlook changes at the end of this month, he's worth adding and utilizing this month. He needs to be owned in all deeper leagues now, and he's a good standard league option now too.

If you need first base help, Vaughn is your guy. He's also a red-hot hitter, so just adding him as an extra starting infielder or utility guy is a smart move in my eyes. Take advantage of things while you can.

Should You Add Emmet Sheehan?

Sheehan is a streaming option and has been added in 4.4% of leagues, bringing his overall mark up to 31.2%.

He will battle the Cardinals in the final game of the night. Sheehan hasn't faced them across six MLB appearances this season.

Sheehan has made four starts this season, and then pitched 3 2/3 innings and 4 1/3 frames in relief outings. He's topped out at five innings.

Sheehan has a 2-2 record and 3.60 earned run average over 25 total frames. He's allowed 13 runs (10 earned) on 21 hits and 10 walks, while also striking out 26 batters.

He has a solid fantasy floor with some decent strikeout work, but his lack of deep starts also limits his fantasy ceiling quite a bit. Sheehan has been in the big leagues since early July, but he rarely gets to 80 pitches.

I like the matchup against the Cardinals, but wouldn't call him a must-start pitcher, even in deeper leagues. He's fine to roll out in some deeper leagues, and he could deliver solid results tonight. There's better options out there though.

I'd avoid Sheehan in standard leagues. There has to be someone with a higher ceiling available.

Should You Add Calvin Faucher?

Faucher is up 7.2% and now sits at 32.8% overall.

Faucher has emerged as the team's closer, and with Miami winning more of late, it's easy to see why Faucher is on the rise.

He has three of his 11 saves over the past five appearances he's made. Faucher has mostly worked the final inning in games, but also randomly appears in the middle innings here and there - that's why his own percentage isn't higher.

Faucher has appeared in 45 games overall, going 3-2 with 11 saves and five blown saves and holds. He has a 3.64 ERA over 42 innings, allowing 20 runs (17 earned) on 37 hits and 19 walks. Faucher has 42 strikeouts as well.

He's on the rise as a fantasy asset, and with Miami being a better team of late, Faucher has some legit fantasy appeal now. I'd still only want to roster him in deeper leagues for now, just because he's not always closing games.

Keep an eye on him going forward, as a couple more saves and scoreless outings could get him into some standard leagues out there.

Should You Add Yu Darvish?

Darvish got a 2.4% bump up and is rostered in 44% of leagues now.

He's another streaming pitcher option for today. Darvish will take on the Diamondbacks in another later game. He got a late start to his season, but has already faced the D-Backs.

He made his season debut against Arizona back on July 7. Darvish allowed two runs on three hits and three walks, while striking out five batters. The D-Backs sold some offensive players since then, so this is a bit more favorable matchup.

Darvish has made five starts so far, going 1-3 with a 6.46 ERA. He's allowed 17 runs on 23 hits and nine walks, while striking out 18 batters over 23 2/3 innings.

Those are not great numbers overall, but he's coming off a seven-inning shutout of the Mets. He allowed just two hits, while striking out seven and walking none. Darvish only threw 76 pitches in that one, so he could have finished the game if he had been built up and pitching all season.

His last appearance shows his fantasy ceiling, but also shows some fantasy shortcomings if he isn't going to top 80 pitches. The matchup is OK on paper, and with just one good start over five tries, I'm not a huge fan of Darvish tonight.

He's a fine deep-league streaming option, but I'd look elsewhere for help in a standard league. If Darvish pitches well tonight, you can expect him to get added and be held in more leagues, so watch his results and react accordingly.
