Finnegan Lands with Tigers
Detroit added another reliever to its bullpen when it acquired Kyle Finnegan. Washington got Josh Randall and RJ Sales in return.
Finnegan is owned in about 70% of fantasy leagues right now, and his new role on the Tigers is to be determined. Detroit has Will Vest, who has been functioning as the team's No. 1 closer for a while, so those two might split the role, or Finnegan might fall back into a setup role.
I'd hold off on adding or dropping Finnegan until we have a better idea of who will take over the closer role for Detroit. I plan to do a closer update over the weekend, so hopefully by then we have a better idea.
Finnegan has regressed this season, and has a 4.38 earned run average over 39 innings and 40 appearances. He's 1-4 with 20 saves, 32 strikeouts and 14 walks.
Randall was the Tigers' No. 15 prospect. The 22-year-old has been working in High-A and had a 2027 ETA.
Over 17 starts this season across two minor league levels, Randall has a 5-5 record and 3.92 ERA. He's covered 84 1/3 innings, striking out 70, walking 15 and having a .280 average against him.
He's not a big-time prospect, but could turn into a better dynasty asset in time. He's a player to keep tabs on, at the very least.
Sales isn't a top-30 ranked prospect, but has a 2.71 ERA in Single-A this season. He's 4-3 with 66 1/3 innings covered over 15 starts and 16 appearances. He's struck out 63 and walked 17.
Sales could improve his status as a prospect over time and eventually become a top-30 guy for Washington. He's more of a lottery ticket than anything.
Bader Traded to Phillies
Harrison Bader got traded from the Twins to the Phillies. Hendry Mendez and Geremy Villoria are the prospects going back to the Twins.
Bader is only rostered in 5% of leagues right now, and that should increase now that he's on a better team and offense. He's a deep-league option to start and could eventually work his way into standard leagues if he excels in his new home.
He's played in 96 games and gotten 307 plate appearances this season. Bader has a .258 average and .339 OBP, along with 38 RBIs, 31 runs scored, 27 walks, 10 stolen bases and 81 strikeouts.
There's some decent numbers in there, and he could get a boost despite likely hitting near the bottom of the team's order. Give him an add in a few more deeper leagues, and keep an eye on him in case he starts producing more for Philly.
Mendez was the No. 15 prospect for the Phillies before the trade. The 21-year-old outfielder has a 2026 ETA.
He has a .272 average and .366 OBP over 386 minor league games. Mendez has 369 total hits, including 63 doubles, 12 triples and 20 home runs. He's also posted 175 RBIs, 190 runs scored, 194 walks, 218 strikeouts and 19 stolen bases.
Mendez is an intriguing prospect, and could make this trade worth it on his own. He's got work to do to reach the big leagues, and then he has to deliver there, but he's on an upward trend, and now is in a bit better organization to make a climb to the big leagues.
Villoria is just 16 years old and has been pitching in the DSL in his first minor league season. He has pitched 14 innings, and sits with a 4.50 ERA and 0-1 record. Villoria has 19 strikeouts and four walks, while allowing a .212 average so far.
Villoria is a long way from the big leagues, and should be viewed as a longshot lottery ticket at this point. We'll see if he can ever turn into a top-end prospect.
Dodgers Acquire a Reliever
Los Angeles acquired Brock Stewart from the Twins. The return is not yet known, but we can discuss that in an article in the future.
Stewart is rostered in a few fantasy leagues, but shouldn't get a big increase after the trade. He'll be a middle relief option, and setup guy at best, for LA.
He is 2-1 with 14 holds and a 2.38 ERA over 39 appearances and 34 innings this season. Stewart had 41 strikeouts and 11 walks, while having a .210 average against him.
Stewart will be re-joining the organization he started his MLB career with. It's a good story, but not likely to mean too much for fantasy owners.
