Fantasy Baseball 10-Team Points Mock Draft with Seventh Pick

Morgan takes part in his eighth mock draft of the season, selecting from the seventh slot in a 10-team setup on FantasySP's mock draft simulator.

The MLB season is officially underway, with the Los Angeles Dodgers taking down the San Diego Padres in the first game of the Seoul Series early Wednesday morning.

The teams will wrap up the two-game series on Thursday morning, but the rest of the league is scheduled to kick off the season on March 28. A lot of fantasy leagues have yet to draft, and I decided it was time to add another mock draft to this spring’s collection.

I used to FantasySP Mock Draft Simulator and was selecting from the seventh pick in a 10-team, head-to-head league setup. There were 10 starting slots for pitchers (either starters or relievers) and hitters (one starter each at C, 1B, 2B, SS, 3B, three OFs and 2 UTILs). There were also eight bench spots.

Let’s dive into what I believe was one of my better mock drafts.

Hitting Options

I absolutely loved how the first three rounds of the mock draft went - I ended up getting two of my top-four fantasy players in redraft formats in Corbin Carroll and Julio Rodriguez and followed those two up with Austin Riley. I really can’t envision too many better trios that I could realistically get in the first three rounds. If those three guys stay healthy all season, they will all be in the hunt for the top fantasy hitter.

After getting a couple pitchers in rounds 4-5, rounds 6-7 were hitters for me. I got Paul Goldschmidt to man first base, and he’s on my list of bounceback hitters for 2024. Cody Bellinger was my final outfielder, but can also be slotted in at first base if Goldschmidt underwhelms a bit again. I couldn’t pass on William Contreras in round eight and think he could be the top fantasy catcher this season.

I got two more hitters in rounds 10-11. Gleyber Torres is my top 2B option, while Evan Carter was taken to fill my first utility spot. I just wrote about how I liked Bellinger and Carter and to try to target them both, and I accomplished that in this mock.

I got pretty pitcher heavy over the next several rounds, but got a great backup catcher in Cal Raleigh in round 14. He’s a guy I planned to start at a utility spot when he’s in the lineup.

I drafted Josh Lowe as another outfield option in round 18. He was sort of my security blanket in case Goldschmidt struggled and I needed to play Bellinger at 1B - Lowe could also be a backup plan in case Bellinger regresses at all.

My couple late hitters taken were Willy Adames, Vaughn Grissom and Maikel Garcia. I was clearly set in the outfield, so I focused on getting some infielders late.

Adames was another bounceback candidate for me and he filled my starting SS spot. Grissom and Garcia are both pretty young and inexperienced, but could also slot in at SS, while Garcia also has 3B eligibility and Grissom 2B eligibility. Those last few picks gave me some flexibility at SS, but also opened up some trade possibilities if a couple of those guys excelled at the plate this season.

Looking at things as a whole, I’m extremely pleased with how my lineup of hitters looks. I feel really good about really every position but shortstop, and I have enough bodies to make something work there. There’s decent depth at each position, so as long as several of my guys are out extended periods, I’m feeling like I could be one of the better teams in terms of fantasy hitters.

Pitching Options

Even though I was pretty top-heavy with hitters, I don’t feel like my pitching took too much of a hit.

In round four, I landed Logan Webb as my top SP. I followed him up with Logan Gilbert in round five. These are two guys that should contend for the top fantasy SP in the game, and are fine options after some of the “elite” fantasy SP are taken.

My third pitcher taken was Chris Bassitt in round nine. He was a top-20 fantasy SP in points leagues last year, so I love his value this late in a draft.

I doubled up with Shane Bieber and Jose Berrios in rounds 12-13. Berrios was only 36 fantasy points behind Bassitt last season, so he’s another high value pick for me. Bieber was a bounceback pitching candidate for me in 2024.

I decided to try to target a few relievers in rounds 15-16, landing Adbert Alzolay and Craig Kimbrel. I also got Robert Suarez in round 25. Between the three, I should get a decent amount of saves, and wouldn’t have any issues flipping them if I needed to target another SP or hitter.

As for other starting options, I got Nathan Eovaldi (round 17), Kyle Harrison (round 19), Nestor Cortes (round 20), Dean Kremer (round 22), Griffin Canning (round 24), A.J. Puk (round 26) and Michael Wacha (27).

There’s a mix of power and finesse in that group, but most of them are veterans, which means you know what you’re getting. I was targeting some inning-eaters and found some sneaky good options along the way. If guys like Harrison and Puk were to break out, or Cortes reverts back to his elite self from a couple seasons ago, I all of a sudden have a really strong group of pitchers.

My pitching is definitely weaker than my hitting, but I also don’t think it would hold me back all that much over the course of the season. If I was really lacking or had several pitchers go down, I had enough hitting where I could deal a bat for an arm.

Best of luck in your final drafts of the spring, and good luck this season!
