Fantasy Football Week 9 Waiver Wire: 8 Players to Target Based on Projections
Sam Darnold, Malik Washington, Tyler Allgeier and Brenton Strange headline this week's waiver wire options based on fantasy projections.
We have looked at several fantasy football waiver wire options already this week, and have some more to discuss here. We'll identify these waiver wire options based on Week 9 projections though.
We will cover two players at every offensive position, so let's dive right in!
Weekly fantasy football projections can be found all season on FantasySP! Defensive rankings are also available!
Wide Receivers
Miami's Malik Washington is projected for 12 PPR points in a favorable matchup against the Lions in Week 9. He's currently rostered in 61.98% of leagues.
He has at least five touches in all but one game so far this season. Washington has caught 31 of his 45 targets for 329 yards and one touchdown, while rushing for 173 yards and two scores over eight attempts.
Washington caught his first TD in Week 8, and now heading into a favorable matchup, he's a solid streaming option for Week 9. He is a better deep-league asset, but could be used in a pinch in standard leagues.
Indianapolis' Keenan Allen is set for 11 PPR points in a favorable clash against the Cowboys. The veteran wideout is owned in 64.25% of leagues.
Allen had 67 receiving yards across seven receptions and targets in Week 8. He has 325 yards and a touchdown across 36 receptions and 50 targets in his seven games played so far.

The Colts, and their offense, are not very good right now, but that actually bodes well for the pass catchers, including Allen. He has a solid fantasy outlook each week, but is another wideout who is a better deep-league option - he could be tried in some standard leagues, especially if you are lacking at WR.
Running Backs
Arizona's Tyler Allgeier is projected for nine PPR points against the Seahawks in Week 9. He's owned in 62.42% of leagues right now.
Allgeier went off for 147 rushing yards and a touchdown across 11 attempts in Week 8 - he added 44 receiving yards and a score over five catches and targets.
He now has 11 or more touches in three straight games, which lines up with Jeremiyah Love battling an injury. Bam Knight is also banged up, so the backfield is wide open, and Allgeier could shine as the lead back as a result.
Seattle isn't a great matchup, but if Love and/or Knight are out, Allgeier could be worth starting in a bunch of fantasy leagues. Keep tabs on the Arizona backfield before Week 9 games get underway.
Los Angeles Chargers' Kimani Vidal is set for eight points against the Texans this coming week. He's rostered in 26.3% of leagues.
He has 10 touches in back-to-back games, and had nine touches three games ago. Vidal hasn't had over 56 total yards in any of those contests, but the consistent work is giving him some fantasy appeal.
Vidal is definitely a better deep-league asset, but he's kind of flying under the radar right now. He can be a sneaky-good fantasy asset, and if he finds the end zone, he could deliver a solid fantasy score.
Quarterbacks
Seattle's Sam Darnold is projected for 19 fantasy points in a very favorable test against the Cardinals. He's only rostered in 38.9% of fantasy leagues right now.
Darnold has regressed in his second season with the Seahawks. Across seven games so far, he's completed just 60.2% of his passes for 1,478 yards, 10 touchdowns and nine interceptions. Darnold has 72 rushing yards over 11 attempts.
It's his favorable matchup in Week 9 that makes him a worthwhile fantasy pickup, and possible starter. I'd still only feel good enough with Darnold to try him in deeper leagues, but because of the matchup, there's standard league streaming appeal too.
Miami's Malik Willis is one of the QBs projected for 18 fantasy points in Week 9. He gets a favorable test against the Lions and is currently owned in 16.38% of leagues.
Willis has 200 or more passing yards in two straight games, and has four TD passes to just one interception in that span. Toss in 39 rushing yards and a score across nine attempts and there's a little fantasy appeal with the Miami QB.
Again, he hasn't delivered big enough all season to be a super trustworthy fantasy asset, but in a favorable matchup in Week 9, Willis could deliver a big fantasy score. That makes him a good deep-league option and worthy of consideration in standard leagues too.
Tight Ends
Jacksonville's Brenton Strange is set for 11 PPR points against the Ravens in Week 9. He's rostered in 77.8% of leagues right now.
He finished with just two catches in Week 8, but he managed 55 receiving yards. Strange has 44 or more yards in four straight contests. He had seven or eight targets in the three games before Week 8, so he's been steadily involved.
Strange is an overlooked fantasy TE right now. I think he's worth much more ownership, and is at least worth starting in deeper leagues. He's done enough, especially of late, to add and start him in standard leagues as well.
So if you are looking for a TE starter in Week 9, give Strange some consideration.
New Orleans' Juwan Johnson is projected for nine points against the Browns. He's owned in 59.21% of leagues at the moment.
He was off in Week 8, and had been trending down before that. Johnson has just one catch for seven yards across five targets in the past two games combined.
Johnson was a better fantasy performer earlier in the season, and maybe the bye week was a nice reset, and now he can get back on track. I'd only feel confident enough in Johnson to start him in deeper leagues in Week 9, but he's also a standard league streaming option.
