3-TD Day for Lawrence
Trevor Lawrence turned in a pretty solid showing to help the Jaguars pull the upset.
Lawrence threw for 221 yards, a touchdown and an interception on 18-of-25 passing. He rushed for 54 yards and two scores on 10 carries, but also lost a fumble.
The two turnovers hurt an otherwise strong showing for Lawrence, but it was still a positive outing for the Jaguars' starting QB, and should give fantasy owners more confidence to use him going forward.
He will be another waiver wire pickup going into week 6, as he has a pretty average matchup against the Seahawks awaiting. We'll see if Lawrence can build on his week 5 showing.
Other Notable Jaguars
Despite earning the win, not many others actually stood out for Jacksonville.
Brian Thomas was the team's best fantasy asset outside Lawrence. He caught four of his six targets for 80 yards.
That actually was the best showing of the season for Thomas, so it was a step in the right direction for him too. He has at least six targets in every game, but this was his first time over 55 receiving yards.
Fantasy owners are hoping for even better showings in the games to come. The clash against the Seahawks will be tougher, so we'll see if Thomas can deliver for a second straight week.
Travis Hunter was the only other pass catcher over 25 yards. He had 64 yards on three catches and targets.
It was also Hunter's best showing of the season. He hadn't been over 42 yards in any game. Hunter has three catches in back-to-back games now, so maybe he's starting to settle in a little bit.
He's still not a great standard league starting option, especially in a tougher matchup, like against the Seahawks in week 6. Hunter is worth some deep-league starts though.
Parker Washington caught Lawrence's touchdown pass. He finished with just 16 yards on two catches and three targets though.
He went for 76 yards in week 2, but had just 34 yards in week 3 and none in week 4. Washington is a risky deep-league starting option.
Tight end Brenton Strange only had a 22-yard catch on his lone target. He ended up suffering a hip injury that forced him out of the game. His status will be worth watching as we move forward.
The Jacksonville backfield was mostly controlled by Travis Etienne, but he struggled to do much of anything. He rushed for 49 yards on 12 carries and added nine receiving yards on three catches and four targets.
His 15 touches were a season low, and his 58 yards were just two more than his season low. It was also the first time in four games that he failed to find the end zone.
Etienne's fantasy value will be a bit down going into week 6, so now is the time to look into buying low on him. He's the clear No. 1 back in Jacksonville, and should dominate the backfield as long as he's healthy. I'd be happy to add him, as you gain a weekly starter in just about every fantasy format.
Mahomes Delivers Big Fantasy Total
Despite the Chiefs losing, Patrick Mahomes had a really good fantasy showing.
He completed 29-of-41 passes for 318 yards, a score and an interception. He rushed for 60 yards and a score on six attempts.
Mahomes has one touchdown pass in four games, and then had four in the other. He threw just his second pick of the season, and went over 300 passing yards for the first time. Mahomes rushed for more than 50 yards for the third time already - he has a rushing TD in all those games.
Mahomes has run a bit more than in the past, and it's helped him up his fantasy value. He's fantasy QB2 overall so far, so you should be starting him every week, regardless of the matchup. He has a pretty average week 6 test against the Lions.
Hunt, Pacheco Split Work Again
Running back Kareem Hunt only rushed for 49 yards on seven carries, but he scored two touchdowns to deliver a nice fantasy score. He also had an eight-yard reception on his lone target.
He still hasn't topped 50 rushing yards in a game, but with three scores over the past two weeks now, Hunt is a sneaky good streaming option in standard leagues. He has 44 or more total yards in three straight games, so that makes him a worthwhile starter in a lot of deeper leagues.
Isiah Pacheco had 36 rushing yards on seven carries, but the lack of a score held him back as a fantasy asset. He added 20 receiving yards on three catches and targets.
Pacheco's fantasy value is dropping by the week, and he's not worth starting in most standard leagues, even in great matchups. I'd look to bail on him before his value is completely gone - just don't expect a great return.
Chiefs' Pass Catchers
Tyquan Thornton led the pass catchers with 90 yards on three catches and five targets. Travis Kelce had 61 yards and a score on seven grabs and eight targets. Xavier Worthy had 42 yards on six receptions and nine targets, while adding a nine-yard rush.
Running back Brashard Smith rushed once for four yards and added three catches for 32 yards on three targets. Marquise Brown had 48 receiving yards on four grabs and eight targets, while JuJu Smith-Schuster had 17 yards on two catches and three targets.
Usually, I won't discuss an entire team's pass catchers, but with a team like the Chiefs, I think it's warranted.
Thornton has tallied 41 or more yards in all but one game this season, and this was his first game in four tries without a score. He's a good deep-league fantasy option, and in a pinch, has some standard league value too.
Kelce delivered his best showing of the season, so he's on the rise heading into week 6. He has 12 catches and 13 targets over the past two games, so it'll be a bit easier to start him in week 6 and beyond.
Worthy didn't deliver as much as I expected him to, but he still did enough to post a decent PPR score. Until Rashee Rice returns, I have Worthy as the team's top pass catcher, but these so-so games are also still possible.
Smith has produced 36 total yards in back-to-back games now, so it appears his offensive role is growing a bit. I wouldn't be surprised if he remains a bit involved, although it might take an injury to Hunt and Pacheco to get him into a really good fantasy spot.
Brown now has 30 or more yards on three or more catches in four straight games after a huge week 1 showing. He has deep-league starting value, but he hasn't shown me enough of late to start in standard leagues.
Smith-Schuster had a down showing, and it ended up as his second-worst fantasy outing of the season. With Worthy back, and Rice returning soon, Smith-Schuster might be phased out of the picture. He's just a deep-league asset at this point.
IDP and Kicker Stats
Jacksonville's Devin Lloyd had a 99-yard pick-six and two tackles. He has 25 tackles, four interceptions and a fumble recovery so far this season, so he's a great weekly IDP option.
Kansas City's Trent McDuffie had an interception, three passes defensed and three tackles. He's up to 20 tackles, six passes defensed and a pick through five games, so he has some value in deeper IDP setups.
Jaguars' Foyesade Oluokun had 14 total tackles, while KC's Nick Bolton had 12 tackles, a pass defensed and a forced fumble. George Karlaftis recovered the fumble and had a half sack among his two tackles.
Oluokun is a top-end IDP option, as his 44 tackles, one sack, two passes defensed and forced fumbles and one interception and fumble recovery show.
Bolton has 46 tackles, two passes defensed and a forced fumble, so he too is a really good weekly IDP option.
Karlaftis has 3.5 sacks among his 20 total tackles on the season, plus a pass defensed and the fumble recovery. There's enough in those numbers for some IDP ownership.
