Should You Add C.J. Stroud?
Stroud and the Texans routed the Lamar Jackson-less Ravens on Sunday. Stroud delivered in a big way, and has looked good over the past couple weeks.
He went for 244 yards, four touchdowns and no interceptions in week 5. He added a 30-yard rush. Stroud had 233 passing yards, two scores and no picks, and added 11 rushing yards on four attempts in week 4.
Really, the only thing working against Stroud is that the team is on a bye week in week 6. Otherwise, he'd probably be a huge waiver wire add.
He has a bit lower strength of schedule rating for the remainder of the season, but some fantasy owners are going to add him hoping he finds his rookie year self. I'm not opposed to adding him, but make sure you have a starter for week 6.
Stroud should be added in all deeper leagues at least, even with the team on a bye this coming week.
Should You Add Dillon Gabriel?
Gabriel made his first NFL regular season start on Sunday against the Vikings. He was 19-of-33 passing for 190 yards, two touchdowns and no picks. Gabriel rushed for five yards on two carries and was sacked twice.
It was a solid showing against a pretty good defense. Now with a start under his belt, we know a bit of what to expect from Gabriel.
Something working in his favor is his week 6 matchup against the Steelers. Pittsburgh has allowed fantasy quarterbacks to score the fourth-most fantasy points through every game played (not including Monday night), so the matchup couldn't be much better really.
It's hard to trust a rookie early in his career, but there was enough there in his first start to start Gabriel in more leagues in week 6. He's probably a better deep-league starting option, but if you wanted to take a gamble and chase the favorable matchup, starting him in a standard league isn't the craziest idea out there.
Should You Add Sam Darnold?
Darnold was good again on Sunday despite his team taking a loss. He threw for 341 yards, four scores and a pick while completing 28 of his 34 passes.
Darnold has nine touchdowns and three interceptions on the season, and they've all come over the past four games. He's completing 73.1% of his passes, but also not adding a ton as a runner.
I like Darnold as a fantasy asset, and think he's been a bit overlooked so far. After his week 5 showing, he will get a little more fantasy love.
He has the Jaguars in week 6. Jacksonville plays Monday, so its numbers could change, but that's a slightly below-average matchup at the moment. I bet it will be more average by the time Patrick Mahomes gets done with tonight's game.
Anyways, Darnold should be an average-or-better fantasy QB in most matchups the remainder of the season, so he's worth adding in more and more leagues. Unfortunately, he has some really tough matchups ahead, so now might actually be a better time to sell high on Darnold, and not invest in him.
Should You Add Matthew Stafford?
Stafford played back on Thursday and, despite losing, looked good. He was 30-of-47 for 389 yards, three scores and no picks. He was charged with a fumble.
He has at least 245 passing yards in all but one game, and he had 196 yards in the other contest. Stafford has multiple TD passes in all but one game as well, while only throwing two picks.
Stafford doesn't add anything as a runner, but he's been a stellar fantasy option so far. He's QB5 overall right now, so he's deserving of more fantasy ownership.
He finally gets a favorable matchup in week 6 against the Ravens. That game could turn into a rout if Jackson doesn't play for Baltimore, but Stafford could deliver enough in his time on the field to post another great fantasy showing still.
There's no reason Stafford should be unowned, or sitting the bench, in any fantasy league for week 6.
Should You Add Tua Tagovailoa?
Tagovailoa had a second straight good fantasy showing, but it resulted in another loss for Miami. He had 256 passing yards, three scores and no picks on 27-of-36 passing. Tagovailoa rushed for five yards and was sacked three times.
He had 177 yards, two scores and no picks in week 4, so he's been pretty good over the past two weeks. You'd love to see his yardage go up, but down Tyreek Hill, that's a tough ask.
Anyways, I think Tagovailoa is a pretty solid fantasy option going forward. He has close to an average matchup in week 6 against the Chargers.
I don't love him in that matchup, and on a week where only two teams are on byes, there's several better fantasy options. Tagovailoa is still a starting option in deeper leagues at least, so don't overlook him because of his first couple games.
Should You Add Bryce Young?
Young is coming off a week 5 game in which he had 198 passing yards, two touchdowns, a pick and a lost fumble. He rushed for one yard on three attempts and completed 19 of his 30 passes.
So why is he being mentioned here? He clashes with the Cowboys in week 6.
Dallas is the most favorable fantasy matchup for a quarterback so far this season, and I'd be happy to start the fantasy QB facing them every week, at least until the Dallas defense shows it can slow a QB down.
So far this season, Dallas has allowed opposing QBs to throw for 234 or more yards in all but one game - they limited Jalen Hurts to 144 yards in week 1, but he rushed for a couple scores to deliver a big fantasy score. Dallas has allowed 298, 325 and 422 passing yards in recent games.
Sure, Young isn't the best fantasy asset, but the Dallas defense has not stopped anyone this season, so why should you expect anything different in week 6?
I'd be happy to start Young in a lot of deeper leagues, and I don't think it's that crazy to chase this matchup and start Young in a standard league. You could do worse.
Should You Add Brock Purdy or Mac Jones?
I have to list Purdy and Jones together, as I have no idea who is going to start in week 6 for the Niners. If I had to guess, I'd say Purdy returns. If he doesn't, Jones is still a very good streaming option.
Purdy has played in two games, throwing for 586 yards, four touchdowns and four picks. He's completed 65.8% of his passes, rushed for 30 yards on seven carries and been sacked twice.
Jones has made three starts, with San Fran winning each game. He's completed 66.7% of his passes for 905 yards, six touchdowns and one interception. Jones has rushed for 10 yards on 11 carries and been sacked five times.
The Buccaneers are a top-five fantasy matchup for a quarterback right now, so that's why I listed the Niners' quarterbacks as waiver/streaming options.
I still like Purdy a bit more, but if Jones starts again, it's not that crazy to want to start him in standard leagues. He's at least a starting option for deeper leagues.
We'll be tracking the injury report throughout the week and let you know which guy will start. We'll also be watching the injury report for the status of some of the playmakers around the QBs, as the Niners are really banged up in the early going.
