Packers Week 2 Fantasy Football Outlook: Tucker Kraft and Matthew Golden Among Intriguing Starting Options
Looking over the Packers as they prepare for their Thursday night game against the Commanders.
Week 2 of the NFL regular season kicks off with a fun game between the Green Bay Packers and Washington Commanders.
Let's go over the top fantasy options for both teams, starting with the Packers.
Having trouble deciding who to start in week 2? Let the FantasySP start/sit tool help you make a decision.
Jordan Love Fantasy Outlook
Love was solid in week 1 and now gets a Commanders team that shut down the Giants in week 1.
Washington allowed 168 passing yards and 44 rushing yards. Love had 188 passing yards and two scores in week 1, while rushing for four yards on three attempts.
The Packers' offense should have just about every starter out there, so even on a short week, things are looking up for Love and the offense.
He's projected for 18 fantasy points, making him a top-10 QB going into the week. I have Love as my No. 9 QB for week 2.
I think Love is worth a start in all leagues this week. He's not a locked-in standard league starter, but he's definitely an option, and maybe your best one depending on who else you roster.
Running Back Fantasy Outlooks
Josh Jacobs is the workhorse back for the Pack right now.
In week 1, he played 42 snaps and got 20 touches. Jacobs rushed for 66 yards and a score on 19 attempts, then caught his only target for four yards.
It was a pretty solid showing against a stout Lions' run defense. The score really bailed out the fantasy owners who started Jacobs.
Washington allowed just 30 rushing yards on 15 attempts to backs in week 1. RBs had 23 receiving yards on four receptions and six targets.
So this sets up as a bit tougher matchup for Jacobs, but he and this Packers' offense is better than the Giants' offense by a good deal, so things aren't that concerning.
Jacobs is projected for 18 PPR fantasy points, which is tied for the fourth-highest mark of the week. I have him a bit lower at RB10 this week.
I think Washington will stack the box and make the Packers beat them through the air. Given his workhorse role, Jacobs is still a good fantasy asset for tonight. I see him as a starter in all formats, but maybe as a better RB2 than RB1.
Chris Brooks and Emanuel Wilson are the backup RBs who played last week. Neither was very involved, and unless they break a big play or score, neither are fantasy assets to start, even in the deepest of leagues.
Wide Receiver Fantasy Outlooks
The Packers don't have a No. 1 wide receiver yet, but Matthew Golden could get there one day. Jayden Reed and Romeo Doubs are still around as possible fantasy assets, as is Dontayvion Wicks.
In week 1, Doubs played the most snaps among the wideouts, playing 34. He had 68 yards on two receptions and four targets. Two of his targets were in the red zone.
Golden was on the field for 23 snaps. He was targeted twice, making two grabs for 16 yards.
Reed, who is working through a foot injury, was on the field for just 18 snaps. He was targeted five times though, making three grabs for 45 yards and a score.
Wicks was on the field for 22 snaps, catching both of his targets for 30 yards.
None of the Packers are great fantasy starting options in standard leagues yet. Nobody is ranked in my top 30.
Reed is projected for 10 PPR fantasy points. Golden is also at 10 PPR points, while Doubs sits at nine.
Washington allowed wideouts to catch 11 of their 21 targets in week 1. They went for just 126 yards. Again, this Packers' offense is better than the Giants, so I wouldn't read too much into last week's numbers.
As for who I like most among the wideouts, I have Golden as my top receiver for tonight. He didn't do a ton in week 1, but I think he'll be more involved tonight.
Doubs would be who I take after Golden. He should remain pretty involved, and always has the chance to score too.
I have Reed third tonight. He might seem like the best option after week 1, but on a short week, I expect his snaps to be limited and his role to regress a bit. This early in the season, it's not worth risking Reed's health over a single win. Expect Green Bay to lean more on Doubs and Golden instead.
Wicks is not a very good starting option as the fourth guy amongst the receivers. He'd only be a good option if one of the top three wideouts were out.
I'd consider Golden, Doubs and Reed for a starting spot in standard leagues, but I like them all better as deep-league starters. Wicks is a starting option only in the deepest of leagues. The pecking order hasn't been determined, and on a short week, there's even more reason to be skeptical of these pass catchers.
Tight End Fantasy Outlooks
Tucker Kraft is the team's top tight end. Luke Musgrave is a capable backup, but in a clear No. 2 role behind Kraft.
Last week, Kraft was targeted four times, making two grabs for 16 yards and a score. He was on the field for 44 snaps.
Musgrave got 17 snaps, barely outsnapping No. 3 TE John FitzPatrick. Musgrave had a four-yard catch, while FitzPatrick made a two-yard grab on their only targets.
Washington allowed 19 yards on two grabs and five targets to tight ends in week 1. So again, it looks like a tougher matchup, but I'm not only going to go off those numbers.
Kraft is projected for eight PPR fantasy points this week. I have him as my TE15.
I like Kraft this season, but between the matchup and all the pass catchers the Packers have around, I'm not a huge fan of him in week 2.
He's still a starting option for the week, but I think he's a better deep-league asset. Musgrave is a very deep-league starting option, but someone I'd stay away from. FitzPatrick is nowhere near fantasy relevance right now.
I think you can do better at TE for week 2 than Kraft, or any other Packers' tight end.
Kicker Fantasy Outlook
Brandon McManus does the kicking for the Packers.
He made two field goals and three extra points in the team's week 1 win over the Lions.
McManus is projected for seven fantasy points this week. I think he's a very good, and underrated, fantasy asset.
In a game with an over/under of 48.5, I see McManus as a solid fantasy kicker option.
Defense/Special Teams Fantasy Outlook
The Packers' defense was stellar against the Lions in week 1.
The unit allowed 246 total yards, and a good chunk of those came with the game out of reach. Green Bay had four sacks and a takeaway.
The addition of Micah Parsons already paid dividends in the opener. He's questionable again, so expect him on a snap count limit, but still affecting the game in some fashion.
The Commanders' offense is a tough one to slow because of Jayden Daniels, but after shutting down the Lions, fantasy owners should be more eager to play the Packers' D/ST.
The Packers' D/ST is projected for seven fantasy points this week. Right now, they are owned in 49% of leagues and started in 33%. I like them a bit more than that, even in a game that could feature a decent amount of points.
Go over your other options and see how the Pack stacks up. They aren't a must start in standard leagues, but they are an option, and gain value the deeper a league gets.
