Fantasy Baseball Top Drop Candidates Heading Into the Weekend

Breaking down struggling fantasy assets and whether it’s time to move on or not.

After taking a look at some more fantasy baseball waiver wire options, plus starting pitcher streamers, let's now go over some drop candidates.

Here are drop stories we did on Monday and Wednesday of this week. We won't cover any of those players in today's article.

More droppable player data can be located on the waiver wire trends most dropped tab, which can be found on any fantasy baseball page here at FantasySP.

Explore the best in-season tool to manage lineup/start decisions including waiver pickups, projections, trade suggestions, trade value charts, rest of season rankings, power rankings, and tons more with Fantasy Assistant.

Bubba Chandler - Pittsburgh Pirates

Chandler is rostered in 83% of fantasy baseball leagues right now. He was closer to 90% earlier in the season.

He was tagged for six runs across four innings in his last start, but that was easily the worst start he's had in five tries. Chandler is 1-2 and now has a 4.88 earned run average over 24 innings pitched. He's allowed 14 runs (13 earned) on 20 hits and 16 walks, while striking out 21 batters.

Chandler has problems with control, but had allowed three or less runs in his first four starts. Some of those control issues held him back from longer starts, which is another issue in fantasy.

I still believe in Chandler in the long run, but until he's more consistent, he'll be treated more as a standard league streaming option, not an asset you can consistently hold. Watch his numbers and react accordingly.

Salvador Perez - Kansas City Royals

Perez has been let go in about 15% of leagues since the start of the season. He's under 85% rostered, and was still over 90% back on April 20.

Perez had a three-hit game earlier this week, but still only owned a .172 average and .212 on-base percentage over 24 games and 99 plate appearances this season. He was at a .152 average and .200 OBP before that three-hit game.

Perez has three doubles and homers among his 16 total knocks, plus six RBIs, six runs scored, four walks and 21 strikeouts. He's still playing regularly, and that should continue.

Perez is eligible at catcher and first base from past seasons, and starts at designated hitter plenty too. That makes him more valuable in fantasy leagues, but if he's not hitting, he's not a very good asset. He's droppable in more standard leagues, but should be watched in case he starts to turn a corner as a hitter.

Kazuma Okamoto - Toronto Blue Jays

Okamoto has been trending down since about April 4, when he was around 88% rostered. He sits at just 54% today.

Okamoto has just one hit over his past three games, and he's down to a .207 average and .289 OBP on the season. Over 23 games and 97 plate appearances, Okamoto has 32 strikeouts.

He has three homers, two doubles, 18 total hits, eight RBIs and eight runs scored. Okamoto hits in the bottom third of the lineup most nights, which also works against his fantasy outlook.

The third baseman just hasn't delivered enough early on this season, and it's made him droppable in standard leagues. He's worth keeping tabs on in case his bat heats up, but he looks like a better deep-league asset right now, and he doesn't need to be starting in those leagues with how poorly he's hit.

Ezequiel Tovar - Colorado Rockies

Tovar has sunk to 40% rostered. He's been closer to 60% for most of the season.

Tovar regressed in 2025, and has started even worse in 2026. Across 26 games and 98 plate appearances, the veteran shortstop has a .204 average and .245 OBP.

He has eight doubles and a homer among his 19 total hits. Tovar also has six RBIs, eight runs scored, two stolen bases, three walks and 27 strikeouts. Of late, Tovar is hitless over his past five games, and he only started three of those contests.

Tovar is in the bottom portion of the lineup now, so despite being in hitter-friendly Colorado, Tovar's fantasy outlook isn't very high. He's capable of much better hitting, and hopefully that comes at some point later this season. For now, he's just a deep-league fantasy asset, and again, he's not a guy that needs to be starting.
