Should You be Targeting Jordan Beck in Fantasy Baseball Leagues?

Assessing whether or not the red-hot Jordan Beck is worth a waiver wire add.

I usually only publish fantasy baseball waiver wire articles during the work week, but I'm coming out with another article on the weekend. I'm doing so because I want to talk about Jordan Beck, who has been a trendy pickup over the past 48 hours.

Check back in the coming days, weeks and months for more waiver wire articles. Also be sure to check out our daily fantasy baseball streaming articles.

Beck's Recent Surge

Beck was sent down to the minor leagues on April 7, but got called back up on April 19.

He was barely owned in any fantasy leagues at the start of the season, and it's only been over the past couple days that his own percentage has risen about a percent.

At the time of publication, Beck was up 8.59% today, bringing his overall mark to 12.56%. He's a quick riser at the moment, and deserves to be talked about at length, so let's get to it.

Beck's Numbers

Beck's numbers for this season look good, even though most of his numbers have come over the past three games.

In 15 games and 46 plate appearances overall, Beck has a .282 average and .391 OBP. He's collected 11 hits, drove in nine runs, stole four bases, walked seven times, scored nine runs and struck out 16 times.

He has at least one hit in five of his first six games since he was called back up. Beck has eight knocks over that span, including five home runs and a triple. He also has eight RBIs, a stolen base, four walks, seven runs scored and eight strikeouts.

The Rockies are just 1-5 in those games, so he's more or less been the only Rockies' hitter delivering anything. Beck is putting up good enough fantasy numbers to get some fantasy attention though.

Beck was a pretty highly-regarded prospect, but didn't do much across 55 games in 2024. He hit .188 and got on base at a .245 clip. He had 32 total hits, including six doubles and just three homers. Beck also had 13 RBIs, seven stolen bases, 12 walks, 14 runs scored and 65 strikeouts over his 184 plate appearances.

Beck has delivered pretty strong results in the minor leagues since he was drafted in the first round (competitive balance pick) of the 2022 MLB Draft. Oddly enough, he's struggled at the Triple-A level this season, with just a .143 average and .189 OBP across eight games.

Beck has already proved he is capable of the MLB level though with what he's done in past seasons. Last year's struggles suggested he needed more minor league seasoning, but as his recent numbers indicate, he's more than capable of playing/hitting at the big league level.

Beck's Fantasy Outlook

I'm sorry to say it, but we all know Beck isn't going to stay this hot for the remainder of the season. He certainly isn't going to homer five times every three games, which is the streak he's on now.

Beck has a well-rounded game, which is great for fantasy baseball though. So while his average and OBP are likely to drop as the season rolls along, if he can keep getting on base enough and then steal some bases and score runs, Beck can definitely be a fantasy asset all season.

He's a fantasy asset in deep leagues right now, but could lose that status if he stays hot for another game or two. I don't see the harm in adding Beck in really deep leagues. I'm intrigued enough by his recent numbers to at least stash him for a little while.

Beck will probably see his own percentage soar to around 50% if he can stay hot a couple more days. Steady production for an extended period will turn him into a deep-league keeper, and possible standard league waiver option.

Beck is going to need to keep producing solid numbers to get attention from all fantasy owners though. He's one to keep an eye on in all leagues, but might eventually top out as a deep-league option.

With some of his recent numbers, and expectations as an up-and-coming prospect, Beck definitely deserves some more fantasy love though. You could roll with him until he cools off at the very least.

Expect his own percentage to rise quite a bit more by Monday, so don't wait around if you are thinking about adding Beck. Get him now before everyone is chasing him at the start of a new fantasy week on Monday.
