Senators and Red Wings Trade

To the Ottawa Senators: Conditional fourth-round draft pick (2026)

To the Detroit Red Wings: David Perron

Fantasy Breakdown

The Detroit Red Wings bring back a familiar veteran as Perron returns to the organization after spending this season with the Ottawa Senators. Perron was a productive piece during his previous stint in Detroit and brings a blend of secondary scoring, powerplay experience, and veteran presence as the Red Wings continue pushing for a playoff spot.

From a fantasy perspective, Perron's value will largely depend on how quickly he works his way into Detroit's offensive structure. During his previous run with the Red Wings, he saw meaningful powerplay time and was able to produce steady secondary offense, which is where most of his fantasy value tends to come from. If he can reclaim a similar role, particularly on the powerplay, he could re-emerge as a useful depth option in deeper fantasy leagues.

Detroit's forward group has evolved since Perron last played there, so his even strength deployment will be something fantasy managers should monitor early. If he lands in a middle six role with consistent powerplay usage, he could provide some value in formats that count powerplay points and shots, but he likely remains more of a deeper league streaming option rather than a must-roster player in standard formats.

If nothing else, Perron will add to the arsenal that Detroit is putting together as they make a push as a serious contender in the Eastern Conference.

Perron has 10 goals, 15 assists, and eight powerplay points in 49 games played as a forward. He also has 69 shots on goal, 64 hits, and 18 blocked shots.

Sabres and Rangers Trade

To the Buffalo Sabres: Sam Carrick

To the New York Rangers: Third-round draft pick (2026), sixth-round draft pick (2026)

Fantasy Breakdown

The Buffalo Sabres add some depth down the middle with the acquisition of Carrick from the New York Rangers, a move that looks more like a roster support decision than a splashy deadline addition. Carrick has built his reputation as a hard-working bottom six forward who can provide physical play, defensive responsibility, and reliable minutes in depth roles.

From a fantasy perspective, this move doesn't shift much on the radar in standard leagues. Carrick has typically played in checking line situations throughout his career and hasn't been relied upon for consistent offensive production. His value tends to come in deeper formats that count hits or faceoff wins rather than traditional scoring categories.

For Buffalo, the move likely helps solidify the bottom of the lineup as the team continues shaping its roster for the remainder of the season. Fantasy managers shouldn't expect much offensive upside here, but Carrick could see steady minutes in a fourth line role where he contributes in real life hockey even if the fantasy impact remains minimal.

But one thing is clear, the Sabres are going all in and are no longer in the basement, but are moving into contender status. How good is this for the city of Buffalo? Finally!

Carrick has four goals, six assists, and zero powerplay points in 60 games played as a forward. He also has 56 shots on goal, 86 hits, and 29 blocked shots.

Blue Jackets and Canucks Trade

To the Columbus Blue Jackets: Conor Garland

To the Vancouver Canucks: Second-round draft pick (2028), third-round draft pick (2026)

Fantasy Breakdown

This huge move sends a top six winger to Columbus as the Blue Jackets aim to inject proven scoring into their lineup. Garland is a high volume shooter with strong offensive instincts, and he immediately bolsters Columbus's attack while likely taking on a top six role with significant powerplay responsibilities.

From a fantasy standpoint, this trade could be a game changer in formats that value goals, assists, and powerplay points. Garland's arrival in Columbus likely means he slides into a prominent scoring line and the team's primary powerplay unit, which should give him a chance to maintain - or ideally improve - his fantasy production despite the mid-season move.

Garland has been falling flat of expectations on the Canucks, but this is not surprising as they are now a firmly selling team instead of a franchise trying to compete. The departure of franchise defensemen Quinn Hughes has not helped the production of anyone, so Garland should have better looks on the Blue Jackets who may not be contenders yet, but are clawing their way up the standings.

Managers will want to monitor how quickly Garland settles in, as chemistry with new linemates and adjustment to a new system can affect early output. Still, given his track record, he should quickly become a core option in both standard and deeper fantasy leagues, especially for those looking for a boost in goal and point totals down the stretch.

Garland has seven goals, 19 assists, and nine powerplay points in 50 games played as a forward. He also has 103 shots on goal, 31 hits, and 28 blocked shots.
