Fantasy Football Quarterback Waiver Wire Options for Week 2: Daniel Jones, Geno Smith and More
Looking over some fantasy football waiver wire targets at quarterback going into week 2.
We have looked at fantasy football waiver wire options at running back, wide receiver and tight end already today, and now are going to go over some options at quarterback.
Also be sure to check out another quarterback-related story we published earlier in the day.

Should You Add Justin Fields?
Fields is currently rostered in 85% of fantasy leagues. That should rise before week 2 kicks off.
Fields was up to his dual-threat ways in week 1 against the Steelers, his previous team. He was 16-of-22 passing for 218 yards, a touchdown and no interceptions. Running for 48 yards and two scores on 12 attempts took a so-so fantasy day and turned it into a stellar showing.
Fields' fantasy value relies on his running ability, as he's a below-average passer. He was solid throwing the ball on Sunday, but again, he would have just had OK fantasy marks without his added rushing production.
I've never been a huge fan of Fields, because unlike other dual-threat options, poor games from Fields are usually fantasy duds, while other dual-threat guys can at least deliver close to average results.
I'm still not all-in on Fields after his week 1 showing. I mean, he was facing his old defense after all, and probably knew a thing or two on how to be effective against them.
He's got a matchup against the Bills in week 2. Buffalo allowed Lamar Jackson to have a big fantasy showing on Sunday night, but Fields isn't Jackson, and I'm guessing he won't outproduce what Jackson did in week 1.
Fields will be a better-than-average fantasy QB option for week 2 (check back in a few days for that ranking story), but he's not a must-start guy for me in week 2. In deeper leagues and setups, yes, Fields can start, but he's not a super trustworthy guy in standard leagues until he proves things consistently.
He's one to watch, but I'm not banking on him ever getting there.
Should You Add Daniel Jones?
Jones is at just 8% owned right now.
Jones was the biggest fantasy surprise at quarterback in week 1. He helped the Colts rout the Dolphins.
Jones was 22-of-29 as a passer, throwing for 272 yards and a score, while not throwing a pick. He added 26 rushing yards and two scores on seven attempts.
The former Giant starter has only had one solid fantasy season in his career, and that was when he was running the ball effectively. I don't expect Jones to deliver these kinds of numbers every week, but I also wouldn't overlook him either.
Jones is worth some adds in deeper leagues, even if he's just a depth QB option for you. A change of scenery could have done him well, and maybe he'll turn into a starting option in those leagues every week.
I don't see Jones turning into a weekly starter in standard leagues, but as a dual-threat guy, I'm not completely ruling it out either. I'm not ready to add him in standard leagues, but he could be a streaming option in the right matchup.
A matchup against the Broncos in week 2 is not a favorable matchup. They made life extremely tough on Cameron Ward and the Titans in week 1. The Colts are better than the Titans, but I still wouldn't be too willing to start Jones against Denver.
Should You Add Aaron Rodgers?
Rodgers is rostered in 15% of fantasy leagues at the moment.
Rodgers turned back the clock and delivered a monster passing performance in week 1. He had 244 passing yards, four scores and no interceptions on 22-of-30 passing against the Jets. Rodgers was sacked four times and lost a yard on his lone rushing attempt (a kneeldown).
Do I think Rodgers will emerge as a top-end fantasy quarterback on his passing numbers alone in 2025? No. But at the same time, he showed he's still got some gas left in the tank and could be worth some deep-league starts, or be a viable streaming option in standard leagues.
Rodgers will take on the Seahawks in week 2. Seattle was average in week 1 against Brock Purdy and an undermanned 49ers' offense. Pittsburgh might actually pose a bigger threat offensively right now, so I'm saying Rodgers is a streaming option for week 2.
There's likely better options out there though, so he's not a must-add QB. I do like the idea of starting him in some deeper fantasy leagues this coming week though, just to see if Rodgers can replicate his week 1 performance.
Should You Add Joe Flacco?
Flacco is only owned in 6% of fantasy leagues at this time.
Flacco had mixed results in his week 1 start against the Bengals, who were a terrible defense in 2024. He was 31-of-45 passing for 290 yards and a touchdown, but he also threw two interceptions. Flacco was sacked twice and rushed twice for six yards.
Cleveland doesn't have many established pass catchers in place, but if Flacco is going to pass this much in his starts, there's some legit fantasy value to take advantage of. You'd like for him to clean up the mistakes, which would have made his week 1 numbers a lot more appealing.
The reason why I added Flacco to this week's story is because he takes on the Ravens in week 2. Baltimore allowed the most fantasy points to quarterbacks in week 1, at least heading into the Monday night game.
Now, Flacco is nowhere near the quarterback that Josh Allen is. He's not even remotely close to the same style of quarterback.
But, maybe the Ravens' defense is one to take advantage of early on. Even if Baltimore shuts down the run, Flacco could put up big fantasy numbers on volume passing numbers alone.
Baltimore will be favored to win this game by a healthy amount, and are going to come out playing hard and angry after blowing a big lead and win in week 1.
That could lead to a ton of passing attempts for Flacco, and some solid fantasy results at the end of the day, even if a lot of the stats come with the team trailing big in garbage time. You really just have to hope the game doesn't get super out of hand and the Browns let a rookie quarterback take over for Flacco.
I wouldn't mind streaming Flacco in some deeper leagues this week, especially if your options are thin.
Should You Add Geno Smith?
Smith is rostered in 22% of leagues.
Smith was pretty good in week 1 in the Raiders' upset win over the Patriots. I can call that an upset right?
Anyways, he completed 24 of his 34 passes for 362 yards, a touchdown and an interception. He was sacked four times and rushed twice for 10 yards.
That line sounds similar to some of the games he had last season in Seattle - a lot of yards, but with low TD and a turnover mixed in, he was just average as a fantasy performer.
He will take on the Chargers in week 2. Los Angeles has allowed the sixth-most fantasy points to quarterbacks so far in week 1.
Again, Smith isn't Patrick Mahomes, but after how the Raiders' offense looked in week 1, maybe volume passing numbers could mean big things for Smith in week 2.
It's another shot in the dark, but in deeper leagues where not many good quarterback matchups might be available, Smith could be a sneaky good option. Smith might not play the cleanest game or be the most deserving of his fantasy points, but they count all the same, so at least consider him in some deeper setups.
