Top Wide Receiver Free Agent Landing Spots

Kenny Golladay: Kansas City Chiefs

Things couldn't have gone worse for Golladay in New York after getting a massive contract from the Giants prior to the 2021 season. During his time with the G-Men, Golladay caught a grand total of 43 passes and scored just one touchdown. He was coming off an injury in 2020 and just never got his feet under him. Now he is sitting on the free agent market unsigned. Still only 29 years old, it's possible he has something left in the tank.

Who is more likely to get the most out of Golladay than Patrick Mahomes? The Chiefs could use a dependable weapon at wideout and we've seen him serve as a WR1 before. His cheap price tag would also fit in with the team's current salary cap situation. It's a perfect fit because there is little risk and plenty of upside. If he is even close to what he once was, then he could make the Chiefs' passing attack even scarier and solidify them with a true outside weapon. If he's washed, the Chiefs are still Super Bowl contenders with the best quarterback in the world under center. This move makes all the sense in the world to strengthen a very young and unproven receiving corps.

Jarvis Landry: Tennessee Titans

The Titans added DeAndre Hopkins to be their WR1 on the outside and are hoping Treylon Burks will emerge as a high-end WR2 this year once he's healthy. However, other than them, they have no reliable option in their wide receiver room. Landry may not be the 100-catch guy he once was, nevertheless, he is still an excellent route runner with great hands. They don't need to add a big-play guy or a guy that can pull down TDs. What the Titans need is a slot guy who can catch a tough pass in traffic on third and seven. Few players have proven their worth in that department more than Landry.

Julio Jones: Arizona Cardinals

Jones is nowhere close to the player he once was, but reports have said that he is still looking for a job in the NFL. The Cardinals are going to be awful this year regardless of who they try to add. Still, Jones is still a big enough name that he could put some people in the stands and he fits a dire need. Arizona has a bunch of slot guys with little outside presence at wide receiver. Jones could return to the league directly into a starting job with Arizona. There aren't many other places that would be a realistic possibility. The only real question becomes whether or not Jones would be interested in playing for a team that has no chance of competing for a championship. That may no longer be an option at his age and this is the only situation in the league where I see an opportunity for him to start.

Robbie Chosen: New York Giants

Chosen was recently cut by the Miami Dolphins after flashing a bit over the summer. There were many around the team who thought he had a real chance to be the third option at wideout for Miami based on what they saw in camp. However, after Cedrick Wilson agreed to restructure his contract the team decided to let Chosen go. He will sign somewhere and the Giants seem like a nice fit. This is another team with a stable of undersized slot receivers tgat could use a big body to make plays downfield and in the end zone. At 6'3" with impressive speed, Chosen fits the bill perfectly. He would immediately become the tallest wideout on the Giants' roster and he is much more necessary to that offense than multiple players in the receiver room.

Sammy Watkins: Detroit Lions

Watkins always manages to weasel his way onto an NFL roster every year and every year fantasy players take the bait. He was never all that good and certainly isn't anymore, but much like fantasy managers, NFL GMs can't seem to forget about the prospect he once was. With that said, he would fit in with the Lions as a placeholder who could go off for his one big game of the year as he so often has in the past. Jameson Williams is slated to be their deep threat, but he's suspended for the first six games of the season due to a violation of the league's gambling policy. Watkins is a guy who the Lions could kick the tires on. They could let him run fly routes for a month and see how it goes, then cut him loose once Williams is ready to return.
