Morant Dealt to Portland

The big trade that was announced was Ja Morant being shipped from Memphis to Portland. In return, Memphis is getting Jerami Grant and Kris Murray.

Morant only got in 20 games a season ago, and has just 79 games played over the past three seasons. When healthy, he can be one of the top players in the game though.

Morant joins a talented backcourt that includes Scoot Henderson and Damian Lillard. Jrue Holiday, Deni Avdija, Donovan Clingan, Shaedon Sharpe and Toumani Camara are among the other notable players on the Portland roster.

Adding Morant gives the Trail Blazers a pretty good roster, and a chance to compete for a playoff spot in 2026-27. The roster will need to stay healthy, but the blend of veterans and young players makes Portland a sneaky-good team for the coming season.

We'll see what else the team adds this offseason to position itself for a playoff run.

Grant has struggled with availability over the past several seasons, but got in 57 games last year. He has been at 63 or less games played in each of the past six seasons. Grant has been a solid starting option, and could also be a useful option off the bench too, if needed.

Murray has been a bench option for most of his three-year career in the NBA. He hasn't broken out, so we'll see how a change of scenery changes his outlook, if any.

Grant is the bigger fantasy asset, but is likely to come off the bench behind rookie Cameron Boozer. Santi Aldama is another power forward option there, so I'm curious to see if there's more moves made to address that position in Memphis.

Zach Edey is the projected starter at center, with Isaiah Stewart as the top backup after being traded there a couple days ago. Jaylen Wells is the projected small forward starter, with GG Jackson II and rookie Karim Lopez as additional options there.

Scotty Pippen Jr. is the projected starter at point guard with Morant to longer around. Ty Jerome is the top backup for now. There's minutes and production available now with Ja gone, so the point guard spot in Memphis is one to keep tabs on.

Cedric Coward is the projected shooting guard starter, with Murray and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope as the backup options.

The trade of Morant opens the door for a new star to emerge in Memphis. Keep tabs on Boozer for sure, but anyone has the chance to shine now that a superstar is out of the picture.

Portland is a better team than Memphis, but both could push for a playoff spot in the coming season. More offseason moves will determine the final outlooks, so keep checking back to see how moves adjust things.

Bridges Sent to Phoenix for Allen and O'Neale

Another notable move was the Suns trading for Miles Bridges. They got a first-round pick in 2029 and second-round pick in 2027 in the deal as well.

Charlotte acquired Grayson Allen and Royce O'Neale in return, plus got a first-round pick in 2033.

Bridges has been a good asset over the years, but Charlotte decided to focus more on its young roster and dealt him away for a couple rotation options. Bridges has been a solid fantasy asset, and I see that continuing with Phoenix.

Allen can start or come off the bench, and provide a scoring punch with his 3-point shooting. If he plays enough minutes, he too could be a good fantasy asset.

O'Neale started a bunch last year, but can also just be a very solid option off the bench. Again, if he gets enough minutes, he too could be utilized in some fantasy leagues.

I'd expect Bridges to start in Phoenix, with Devin Booker, Jalen Green, Dillon Brooks and Mark Williams as the other projected starters right now. Collin Gillespie, Jordan Goodwin, Ryan Dunn, Oso Ighodaro and more as bench options.

The starting lineup is pretty good, but the bench depth is lacking a bit. That should mean all the starters are good/great fantasy options, but unless the Suns add more depth through other trades or free agency, the team could struggle overall.

The Hornets continue to overhaul their roster, and it's looking pretty solid right now. A couple more good offseason moves could turn this team from a playoff team to a legit contender in the Eastern Conference.

Coby White, Kon Knueppel, Brandon Miller, Naz Reid and Hannes Steinbach are the projected starters, with Moussa Diabate, Allen, O'Neale and rookie Christian Anderson as other notable options off the bench.

I like that starting five as well, but like the Hornets' roster overall too. Allen and O'Neale could be nice options off the bench, and fill-in starters here and there. Don't be surprised if Charlotte keeps adding this offseason, putting themselves in position to do some damage in 2026-27.

Pistons Acquire Joe

Detroit traded for Isaiah Joe, sending the Oklahoma City Thunder two second-round picks (in 2030 and 2031) in return.

Joe has been a solid bench option over the years, and now has a chance at a bigger role with the Pistons. He has been a decent fantasy asset over the past few seasons, and he could improve a bit in his new home.

He's still likely to come off the bench, but he should play enough to deliver and be a solid fantasy asset. He could start too, if the Pistons want to bring Duncan Robinson off the bench.

Cade Cunningham, Ausar Thompson, Tobias Harris and Jalen Duren are the projected starters alongside Robinson in Detroit right now. Duren might end up getting moved, but that shouldn't impact Joe a ton.

Rookie Ebuka Okorie, Javonte Green, Paul Reed, Ron Holland II, Caris LeVert and Joe are the most notable bench options. It's a solid collection of talent, but it feels that Detroit is still a couple players away from being a big-time threat in the East.

We'll see what the Pistons can do yet this offseason to improve their odds.

With Joe out in OKC, it opens the door for others to step into bigger roles.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander will power the Thunder, with help from Chet Holmgren and Jalen Williams. Isaiah Hartenstein and Luguentz Dort are the other projected starters for the time being.

Ajay Mitchell, Jared McCain, Cason Wallace, Alex Caruso and Jaylin Williams are some of the top backups. OKC also has rookies Bennett Stirtz and Aday Mara.

It's a great lineup, and means the Thunder will contend for the Western Conference title and a spot in the NBA Finals again in 2026-27. There's still ways to improve the roster, and I expect the Thunder to do that this offseason still.
