Friday's Fantasy Baseball Waiver Wire Adds: Jake Burger, Otto Kemp and More

Looking at a few waiver wire pitchers and hitters to consider adding in fantasy baseball leagues.

It's time for one final fantasy baseball waiver wire story for the week.

Here are the waiver stories from Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. We'll also avoid talking about anyone from Friday's streaming pitcher story.

Should You Add Jake Burger?

Burger has been added in 1.7% of leagues so far today. He sits at 31.76% overall.

Burger popped two homers in the team's last game on Wednesday, so it's easy to see why he's on the rise.

He has 14 hits over his past 12 games and 43 plate appearances. Among the hits, Burger has five homers and a triple. He also has 13 RBIs, nine runs scored, three walks and seven strikeouts in that stretch of games.

Overall this season, Burger has played in 92 games and logged 339 plate appearances. He has a .246 average and .280 on-base percentage, along with 49 RBIs, 42 runs scored, a stolen base, 12 walks and 80 strikeouts. Burger has 15 doubles, a triple and 16 homers among his 79 total hits.

Burger is the cleanup hitter for the Rangers, who are one of the hottest teams in the league right now. Burger can get in stretches where he's really a good fantasy asset, and now is one of those times.

He might not be super consistent, but with good numbers over the past couple weeks, he's a better deep-league fantasy option than his own percentage suggests.

I'd be for adding Burger in deeper leagues. He's worth watching in case he gets in a home run binge, at which point he'd be a standard league streaming option.

The first baseman is likely eligible at third base too, so he could help at either spot, or be an infield bat, or extra hitter in general.

Should You Add Otto Kemp?

Kemp is owned in 2% of leagues right now. That's ever so slightly up from the past few days.

Kemp has five hits over the past three games he's played in. He has two homers and a double among the hits, along with five RBIs, four runs scored, a walk and three strikeouts.

He's getting his first taste of the big leagues this year. Over 50 games and 177 plate appearances, Kemp has a .241 average and .311 OBP. He's gone up 17 points with his average and 12 points in his OBP over the past three days.

Kemp has 38 total hits on the year, including eight doubles and six home runs. He has 22 RBIs, 21 runs scored, two stolen bases, 10 walks and 53 strikeouts.

Kemp is getting extra playing time with the Phillies dealing with some injuries. He's started the team's past four games, but hit sixth, seventh or ninth.

Those aren't very favorable spots for a fantasy hitter, but in a lineup with talented hitters around him, Kemp has made it work. He's eligible at third base, but has also played enough at first base and left field to likely be eligible at both those positions too.

Kemp should get a fantasy boost in deeper leagues. He's getting rolling at the plate, and at least is a streaming option in those leagues until his playing time fizzles out. With how he's hitting of late, the team might have a hard time keeping him out of the lineup, even after the team gets back to full health.

Should You Add JP Sears?

Sears is up 4.34% as he gets ready for a start on Friday. He is rostered in 12.43% of leagues overall.

He's been in Triple-A, but is getting called up to start for the Padres against the Rockies. That's a very favorable matchup for a fantasy pitcher, especially since the game is in San Diego.

Sears last pitched in the big leagues on August 25. He allowed four runs (three earned) on five hits and a walk over 3 2/3 innings, while striking out a batter.

He made three starts with San Diego since coming over in a trade deadline deal.

In 25 starts overall this season, Sears is 8-10 with a 5.01 earned run average. He has allowed 73 runs (70 earned) on 131 hits and 32 walks, while striking out 105 batters.

The ERA isn't good, but he has good enough strikeout numbers to utilize in really favorable matchups. He has one of those on Friday against Colorado.

Sears faced them while he was on the Athletics. On April 5, he earned a win after working 6 1/3 innings, allowing three runs on six hits and two walks. He struck out two batters.

Sears is a better deep-league streaming option for today. His lower fantasy ceiling should keep him out of standard leagues. With a low fantasy floor too, he's just not the best streaming option. His own percentage should tell you the story here.

Should You Add Chase Meidroth?

Meidroth has been added in 2.6% of leagues, bringing his total mark to 16.47%.

He is riding a seven-game hitting streak, collecting 13 knocks over that span. Meidroth has a double among the hits, along with an RBI, three runs scored, five walks and five strikeouts.

It seems highly unlikely for him to have the hits he does, but barely any other numbers over the past week. Meidroth hitting either first, or low in the lineup, is why he's not doing much else though.

He's a decent deep-league asset on his hits alone though, so it's fair to see him on the rise. If he starts driving in runs, or scoring more, then he'll continue to rise as a fantasy asset.

Him being on the White Sox is absolutely crushing his fantasy value, and with not much pop, his fantasy ceiling is low right now.

Should You Add J.T. Ginn?

Ginn is up 2.56% and is rostered in 14.12% of leagues now.

He's expected to start against the Reds tonight. It will be his first matchup against Cincy this season.

Ginn has made 20 MLB appearances this season. He's 3-6 and also has a hold out of the bullpen. Ginn has covered 76 1/3 innings and sits with a 4.95 ERA. He's allowed 43 runs (42 earned) on 79 hits and 23 walks, while striking out 86 batters.

He's coming off a good start against the Angels. Ginn earned his third win in that one, allowing a run on five hits over five innings. He struck out five and walked none. I feel that would be right about at his fantasy ceiling.

Ginn worked six innings in the start before that one, but also allowed five runs. He gave up five runs over two starts and 10 innings in the two starts before that combined. He was rocked for six runs (five earned) over two innings in his start before that.

Ginn has kind of been all over the place of late, but in a pretty solid matchup and coming off a good start, fantasy owners are adding and streaming him. I only see him as a streaming option, just like Sears.

I would give the slight edge to Sears over Ginn, although it's pretty much a coin flip.

I bet if you do some digging, you can find better streaming options in deeper leagues tonight. I know you can do that in standard leagues.
