The NL West has started the season scalding hot. It's not a surprise, as the Dodgers are the best team in baseball, the Padres made the playoffs last year, and the Diamondbacks just missed the playoffs and got better this offseason.

While no other division has more than one team with double-digit wins, the NL West has three such squads (Padres, Giants, and Dodgers), and Arizona has nine wins. It's early in the season, but the NL West is standing out as the best division in the small sample.

Let's look at five starting pitchers in action on Tuesday who are widely available in fantasy leagues and have good matchups. Most stats are from MLB.com, as are the probable starters. The full streamer rankings are listed at the bottom.

Erick Fedde, St. Louis Cardinals vs. Houston Astros

Fedde had a good return to the United States last season after a year playing in Korea, but he hasn't pitched at a high level this year. The results have been OK, as Fedde allowed seven runs in 15 innings, but Fedde has walked eight batters and struck out just five. He'll probably improve with those numbers, but Fedde is just a middling pitcher.

The Astros are closer to 20th than 30th in a lot of stats, a team that could easily climb out of the bottom group. They have struggled offensively, though, and they are a team worth targeting if needed.

Fedde is a low-level streamer. His pitching hasn't been below average, and the matchup is more OK than great, so it's probably better to skip Fedde right now.

Jake Irvin, Washington Nationals @ Pittsburgh Pirates

The Pirates are more of the type of team we are looking for in this exercise. Pittsburgh is in the bottom 10 in essentially every major offensive box stat, and they don't really have a lot of reason to expect improvement this season. They are likely to struggle through the full 162 games.

Irvin has been a little worse than average with walks, strikeouts, and run prevention over 324.2 career innings. It's best to expect him to be right near the middle; that's a guy who fits on the streaming radar but doesn't have a high ceiling.

Irvin is a low- to mid-level streamer. He's worth consideration because of the sweet matchup, but Irvin is also uninspiring enough to save your innings unless you're in a deep league.

Landon Knack, Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Colorado Rockies

Knack had a very good debut last season in 69 innings, allowing just 28 runs with both a walk rate and strikeout rate several percentage points better than league average. His start to 2025 hasn't been as great: five runs allowed in 4.1 innings with five strikeouts and four walks. It's an extremely small sample, and we can expect better results based on what he's done before, but it's important to keep expectations in check even after his strong 2024.

The Rockies are the team to face when you're hoping for a pitcher to find success. They are the only team who has struck out at least 10 times per game (though the Red Sox and Tigers are very close), and Colorado has scored 10 fewer runs than the next closest team (the atrocious White Sox).

Knack is a mid- to high-level streamer. Again, temper expectations given Knack's lack of experience, but he has shown high-level ability and has maybe the best matchup available right now.

Tylor Megill, New York Mets @ Minnesota Twins

Megill has been a high-level strikeout pitcher in four of his five seasons (including 2025), only falling short in 2023. That's also the only season in which he surpassed 100 innings, so it's worth watching to see if his performance falls later in the season. He has looked really good so far, though, even as he has walked a few too many guys.

The Twins had another poor game yesterday in a season full of them: just three hits and one run while Minnesota hitters struck out 13 times. Twin batters have struck out the 11th most, and they are in the bottom 10 in all four slash categories.

Megill is a mid- to high-level streamer. His ceiling and work so far this season portend big things, but Megill has been a more middling pitcher in the past and probably won't keep throwing like an ace all season.

Jeffrey Springs, Athletics @ Chicago White Sox

I mentioned the White Sox being atrocious earlier, and it really is an apt description, especially when taking into account their past year-plus of baseball. Chicago is in the bottom five in runs, hits, doubles, home runs, batting average, on-base percentage, slugging percentage, and OPS.

Springs has struck out 16 and walked seven in 15 innings, a little higher than average in both areas. He has generally been very good with strikeouts and average with walks, a profile that has his career ERA near 3.40.

Springs is a high-level streamer. The matchup is pristine, and he has shown high-level work, especially with strikeouts.
