Let’s jump right in today and go through Saturday’s probable starters (according to MLB.com) who are widely available in fantasy leagues and have good matchups, creating streaming value. Most stats and rankings are from MLB and correct before Friday’s results. The full streamer rankings are listed at the bottom.

Spencer Arrighetti, Houston Astros @ Oakland Athletics

Arrighetti’s first 32.2 big league innings (all this year) have produced some good but mostly bad. He has struck out 36 batters in that time but also walked 17, holding a rate much worse than league average. The results have been poor, as Arrighetti has given up 26 runs (7.16 ERA).

Oakland has hit for power but that’s about all: They are 23rd in runs scored, 28th in batting average and 27th in on-base percentage. They have also struck out the second most of any team, leaving room for a high ceiling for strikeout pitchers.

Arrighetti’s strikeout work plus Oakland’s propensity for Ks make him a mid-level streamer even as his results have been poor.

Dean Kremer, Baltimore Orioles @ Chicago White Sox

Kremer had a good matchup against the Cardinals in his last start but gave up five runs in just four innings. We’re going back to the well, though, because the White Sox offer one of the best matchups available. Chicago is in the bottom two in runs scored, home runs, batting average, slugging percentage, on-base percentage and OPS.

Kremer strikes batters out at an above-average rate. The Sox are around league average in batter strikeouts, meaning Kremer could find some success in that area. He has favorable walk numbers in his career and holds a middling 4.35 ERA.

Kremer is a mid- to high-level streamer in this one. His strikeout work gives him a higher ceiling than many, and Chicago’s poor performance also gives him a high floor.

Reese Olson, Detroit Tigers vs. Toronto Blue Jays

Toronto is just a little bit better version of the White Sox: Instead of being in the bottom two in all of the stats listed above, they are merely in the bottom 10. None of their batters have hit for both power and average, and most of them haven’t done either.

Olson struck out a batter per inning last season, and though he’s regressed slightly, he’s still right near the league average this year. He also limits walks, setting himself up well. It seems like some kind of cruel joke, but Olson is 0-5 despite a 2.16 ERA.

Olson is a mid- to high-level streamer in this one. Toronto hasn’t done much damage this season; Olson’s strikeout work gives him a little upside.

Jameson Taillon, Chicago Cubs @ St. Louis Cardinals

St. Louis is down near the White Sox in a lot of the stats I listed in their section. It starts with their supposed best players: Nolan Arenado is batting .269 with three home runs and Paul Goldschmidt is at .211 and four. The Cards may be looking at a rebuild if their pieces age out of usefulness.

Taillon has a good strikeout rate in his career, but it hasn’t carried into 2024, as he has just 22 Ks in 32.2 innings. He doesn’t put many runners on base, which helps offset that a bit. Taillon has seen good results this season, holding a sparkling 2.20 ERA.

Taillon is another mid-level streamer against the Cardinals. His lack of strikeouts holds him down, but success in the past gives a small hope for a big game.
