Dereck Lively II Season Outlook: Rim Protection Upside in Shared Mavericks Frontcourt
At Mavericks Media Day, Dereck Lively II confirmed he has been working his way back from injury ahead of the season. While he holds the starting center role on Dallas' depth chart, he shares frontcourt duties with Daniel Gafford. Entering his third year at age 22, Lively brings elite defensive instincts despite rotational limits.
Our models project Lively for 21.9 fantasy points across 22.2 minutes per game in 58 contests. His fantasy value centers on efficient interior finishing and elite rim protection, with our projections calling for 1.4 blocks, 6.7 rebounds, and 67.2% shooting from the floor. His limited offensive usage caps volume scoring, but his peripherals provide stability.
With an ADP of 152.50 and a 15% roster rate, Lively's profile fits managers seeking cheap blocks and field-goal impact. While his 58 projected games reflect past durability struggles, securing consistent mid-20s minutes would allow him to comfortably exceed his late-round draft billing.
