Rookie Sensation Kevin McGonigle Solidifies Everyday Role Amid Tigers Injuries

Over his last 14 days, McGonigle has displayed an excellent eye at the plate, slashing .250/.388/.525 with three home runs. His strong play is a bright spot for the fourth-place Tigers, who currently sit at 30-44 in the division. With Gleyber Torres and Javier Baez sidelined on the injured list, McGonigle is locked in as Detroit's everyday starting shortstop.

While our season projection conservatively lists a .255 batting average, McGonigle's superb .282 career average and .390 OBP over 71 games suggest his elite plate discipline is entirely real. Though his recent .525 slugging percentage over the last two weeks represents an elevated power spike, he remains a safe floor option who will continue to contribute high on-base metrics and chip-in speed.

Looking at the remainder of the week, the Tigers host the White Sox for a three-game weekend series. McGonigle will draw a highly favorable matchup on Friday against Erick Fedde, who carries a 4.50 ERA and 1.41 WHIP, before facing the tougher Davis Martin on Sunday. Given his steady everyday role and prime matchups, he should remain locked into all lineups. Start.
