Outlook Jake Bennett
Jake Bennett remains a stash option in Triple-A while the Boston rotation marches on
After a brief big-league stint in early May, Bennett has spent the last month pitching in Triple-A, leaving him without any recent major league appearances. He currently remains off the active big-league roster as the last-place Red Sox (27-36) continue to lean on other arms. A massive wave of rotation injuries in Boston could eventually open another door for him, but he currently waits in the wings.
In his brief two-start taste of the majors, the young left-hander registered a 4.46 ERA and a 1.49 WHIP over 10.1 innings. While those ratios show he still has some adjusting to do, his high-strikeout performances in the minors hint at real upside. Our models suggest his ultimate ceiling is that of a solid mid-rotation starter, but he needs to refine his command before that reality manifests.
Boston travels to face the division-leading Rays before returning home to host the Rangers, but Bennett is not scheduled to make an appearance. With no projected starts on tap for the upcoming week, there is no immediate fantasy utility here. Verdict: Sit.
