Now, who are the players fantasy owners are dropping heading into Week 3?
Week 3 Predictive Drops:
[predict="drop-2022-3"]
QB Trey Lance, San Francisco 49ers
Fantasy owners are fully giving up on Trey Lance and for good reason. Lance suffered a significant ankle injury early in Week 2 and will miss the remainder of the season. It’s a big blow for Lance owners and San Francisco 49ers fans but fortunately, the franchise re-signed Jimmy Garopollo before the season. Jimmy G. steps in and will start for the first time in 2022 in Week 3. Despite the injury to Lance, I actually anticipate a slight uptick in production from Deebo Samuel, Brandon Aiyuk, and George Kittle with Jimmy under center. Fantasy owners who are in desparte need of a quarterback in the wake of Lance’s injury should target Detroit’s Jared Goff or Jimmy Garopollo.
WR Robert Woods, Tennessee Titans
Bobby Trees has disappointed big time through his first two weeks with the Titans. Against Adoree Jackson and the New York Giants, Woods only secured one reception for 13 yards in the Titans’ 21-20 loss to the G-Men in Week 1. In a game where the Titans needed to air it out a lot after falling behind by several possessions, Woods only managed four receptions for 39 scoreless yards in Tennessee’s blowout loss to Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills last night. It seems that Ryan Tannehill has failed to develop any sort of rapport with his top target. In fact, Treylon Burks has more receptions than Woods this season. Still, fantasy owners are overreacting far too much to two poor performances from the former Los Angeles Rams wideout. Woods will eventually get things going for this passing offense. Fantasy owners should give him another chance in Week 3 against a Las Vegas Raiders defense that was torched by both Justin Herbet and Kyler Murray. Woods will break out of his mini slump this week and post 80+ receiving yards in Week 3.

TE Albert Okwuegbunam, Denver Broncos
In Week 1, Albert O. didn’t see much work until the second half. Despite being outplayed by Andrew Beck, the young tight end still managed to finish Week 1 with five catches for 33 receiving yards in Denver’s heartbreaking Week 1 loss to the Seattle Seahawks. However, Okwuegbunam put up a big donut in Week 2 despite the fact that Jerry Jeudy was forced out of the game after suffering an injury. Without Jeudy on the field, you would think that Albert O. would draw more targets but the chemistry between him and Russell Wilson doesn’t appear to be there. Until he proves otherwise, Albert O. belongs on your bench. That being said, I would think twice before cutting him just yet, especially if Jeudy is forced to stand on the sidelines in Week 3.
RB Alexander Mattison, Minnesota Vikings
Many fantasy football owners are dropping perhaps the most valuable handcuff running back in all of fantasy football heading into Week 3. This is a boneheaded decision despite Mattison’s extremely pedestrian performance on Monday Night Football against the Philadelphia Eagles. Mattison was phased out of the gameplan after the Eagles took a double-digit lead in the second half. The backup running back finished with a mere 14 total yards on five touches. If you drafted Mattison, you likely didn’t expect to start him unless Dalvin Cook suffers an injury. Fantasy owners should remain patient and hold onto Mattison. A Dalvin Cook injury isn’t out of the cards and when Cook is out of the lineup, Mattison is practically a lock for 15-20 touches.
TE Taysom Hill, New Orleans Saints
After a huge Week 1 performance in which he scored a touchdown after a long 60-something-yard run, Hill was held in check in Week 2 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Fantasy owners who thought Hill would drop double-digit fantasy points each and every week are sorely mistaken. Hill only managed a single fantasy point in Week 2 and that was without Alvin Kamara active. With Kamara likely returning to the field in Week 3, Hill can safely be dropped in all fantasy formats.
