Using Predictive Adds To Identify Week 2 Waiver Wire Pickups
It’s hard to believe but Week 1 is officially in the books after the Seattle Seahawks held off Russell Wilson and the Denver Broncos on Monday Night Football. There is a ton of big news from Week 1, including the injuries to Dak Prescott and Elijah Mitchell. With San Francisco’s workhorse running back down for the count, Jeff Wilson Jr. is being added more than anyone else in fantasy football. Last year, it was Mitchell who everyone gravitated toward after Week 1 due to his 100-yard breakout performance. And unsurprisingly, he led a lot of fantasy football owners to championships. This year, it’s his backup who owners are flocking toward in the wake of Mitchell’s injury.

Looking At Week 2 Fantasy Football Predictive Adds:
[predict="add-2022-2"]
RB Jeff Wilson Jr., San Francisco 49ers
This time last year, Elijah Mitchell was fantasy football’s top waiver wire pickup. Fast forward one year and it’s another 49er running back who fantasy owners are salivating over. Mitchell went down in the first half of San Francisco's surprising loss to the Chicago Bears. The second-year running back is slated to miss about two months of action with an MCL sprain. Not a ton of teams like to the run the ball as much as Kyle Shanahan and the Niners. San Francisco running backs produced the seventh-most fantasy points as team in 20221. Wilson has also proven himself in the past in this system. Back in 2020, Wilson served as the team’s lead back and led the team with 600 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns. In the fantasy football postseason (Week 15), Wilson tallied 19.9 fantasy points on 23 touches and finished as the RB3 overall. Wilson has the ability to be a league-winning pickup.
WR Curtis Samuel, Washington Commanders
It was rookie wideout Jahan Doctson who found the end zone twice in Washington’s Week 1 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars. However, fantasy football owners seem to have been more impressed with former Carolina Panthers gadget player, Curtis Samuel. Perhaps that is because Samuel led the team in targets (11) and also found the end zone once himself. In his debut with the Commanders, Samuel finished with eight receptions for 55 receiving yards and a touchdown. It sure looked like Carson Wentz and Samuel had developed a nice rapport this offseason. Samuel will most likely serve as Carson Wentz’s safety valve in Washington’s offense. Terry McLaurin is still the wide receiver to own in the nation’s capital but Samuel is going to make noise in 2022, particularly in PPR formats.
RB Darrell Henderson, Los Angeles Rams
Nobody expected Henderson to get as much work as he did in the Rams’ Week 1 loss to the Buffalo Bills. Starting running back Cam Akers struggled to get anything going, finishing with 0 yards from scrimmage. Henderson tallied 47 rushing yards on 13 carries and 26 receiving yards on five additional receptions. Henderson is also seeing a slight uptick in value because rookie running back Kyren Williams suffered an ankle injury Thursday night and is expected to miss at least six weeks. This means that Henderson should see even more touches after outsnapping Cam Akers 55-12 in Week 1. Will Akers eventually assume the RB1 role in Los Angeles? Probably. Could it take a couple weeks for that to happen? Absolutely. Right now is definitely a great time to target Henderson on the waiver wire.

QB Carson Wentz, Washington Commanders
If you are looking for a quarterback on the waiver wire, don’t expect any sexy names to be available. But you don’t need a sexy quarterback, you need one who can produce consistently. Although Carson Wentz is far from the guy I want under center, he did light up the Jaguars in his Washington debut. Wentz finished with 313 passing yards and four touchdowns! With Wentz as your quarterback, you are going to see some boneheaded turnovers but you can do way worse if you are looking for a replacement for the injured Dak Prescott. Wentz is capable of keeping your fantasy squad afloat while you wait for your starter to heal from his injury.

TE Taysom Hill, New Orleans Saints
The Saints struggled offensively throughout the first three quarters of the season opener. Jameis Winston saw constant pressure and Alvin Kamara struggled to get anything going in the running game. The Saints managed to stay alive in the first half by playing through Taysom Hill. Most of New Orleans’ success in the first half came after Hill bursted through the seams for a career-long 57-yard run. He capped the drive off with a touchdown. Even though Sean Payson is no longer coaching the Saints, Dennis Allen seems happy to keep the Taysom Hill tradition alive. Hill should continue to see a somewhat substantial role in the Saints offense, which is incredibly valuable, especially at the tight end position. Hill can serve as a running back but can also catch passes. He’s worth a gamble if you can afford the roster space.

RB Jaylen Warren, Pittsburgh Steelers
Fantasy owners are flocking towards Jaylen Warren after Najee Harris was lit up in the fourth quarter and was unable to return for the overtime period. Harris has been struggling with injuries all ofseason and was perhaps rushed back too soon. Although the Steelers are saying that Harris will be good to go on Sunday, it’s not a bad idea to scoop Warren up off the waiver wire just in case Harris is scratched. Warren isn’t the most talented running back but he would potentially slot in as a high-end RB2 due to volume alone. Not to mention, Warren has pretty solid hands and is a decent pass-catcher out of the backfield. Warren had a few solid PPR outings when James Conner was injured in Pittsbrugh a couple years ago so it’s not crazy to think Warren can repeat that success if Harris is unable to go in Week 2. Najee Harris owners shouldn’t hesitate; add Jaylen Warren today!
WR Devin Duvernay, Baltimore Ravens
Most fantasy football experts thought Rashod Bateman would emerge as Lamar Jackson’s go-to target after Marquise Brown was sent to the Arizona Cardinals. However, it was Devin Duvernat who dominated the New York Jets’ secondary in the Ravens’ big Week 1 victory. The third-year receiver caught all four of his targets for 54 receiving yards and two trips to the end zone. Ravens receivers are tough to trust, especially since Mark Andrews will see more targets than any Baltimore receiver in 2022. However, if the speedy and shift Duvernay can continue to outproduce Bateman, he is worthy of a bench stash in all but the shallowest fantasy leagues. I wouldn’t start him in Week 2 against a strong Miami Dolphins secondary but he’s definitely worth a roster spot.
