Fantasy Basketball Waiver Wire: Midweek Pickups to Consider
A look at midweek fantasy basketball waiver wire options, including Kennedy Chandler, Jalen Smith and more.
The middle of the week is here, which means it's time for our third fantasy basketball article of the week.
Here are the stories from Monday and Tuesday, plus Wednesday's streaming article.
Waiver wire options can be found all season on FantasySP!
Kennedy Chandler: Two Good Showings
Chandler is rostered in about 20% of leagues at the moment. He was barely owned as of three days ago.
He recently signed a 10-day contract with Utah, and his first two games with the team have been stellar. Chandler has logged 66 minutes of playing time in those two contests, coming off the bench in both games.
In the first game, he tallied 19 points, five rebounds, four assists and one steal. Chandler then posted 13 points, nine assists, five rebounds and three steals in the last contest.
He is excelling right away with several Utah players out with injuries. Isaiah Collier and Keyonte George are a couple big guards who are out, which is really helping Chandler shine now.
Chandler is worth adding/streaming in deeper leagues. He could work into standard leagues, but I'd want him to be on more than a 10-day contract before I decided to add Chandler in those leagues.
Jalen Smith: Back and Delivering
Smith is owned in about 23% of fantasy leagues right now. He dipped to around 20%, but is back on the rise now.
He's been inactive a bunch in the latter half of the season, which has hurt his fantasy value. Smith has played six of the past eight games though, and has scored in double figures in five straight.
In those five contests, Smith is averaging 12.9 points, 6.2 rebounds, 1.2 assists, 0.6 blocks and 0.2 steals over 26.8 minutes. There's some good marks in there, but nothing too overwhelming.
The chance for Smith to shine is there, as several Bulls are on the injury report. The more teammates that are out, the better Smith's chances are to deliver good fantasy marks.
Smith is a decent deep-league pickup, but not one to add immediately in all those leagues. He hasn't played enough, or produced enough, to warrant that.
If he remains active and continually delivers, there's a chance he works into standard leagues too. So keep tabs on him, but only consider adding him in some deeper leagues for now.
Collin Sexton: Back on Track
Sexton is another guy who is around that 40% mark. He's above 42% rostered now.
Sexton is another guy who has missed some time of late. He has played three games in a row now, and delivered well in the last outing, so he's trending back up.
He scored 14 and nine points in his first two games back. He had six rebounds, seven assists and one steal as well. Sexton went for 25 points, four rebounds, three steals and two assists in his last appearance, which is obviously better fantasy production.
Like I said in the Smith writeup, several Bulls are on the injury report, which opens things for Sexton. There's more guards/forwards that are injured, so that works more in Sexton's favor.
Sexton is a good deep-league addition for the day, and he could be worth holding in deeper leagues for as long as he's producing. I also wouldn't mind streaming Sexton in some standard leagues, but would have to see your other options first before making that call.
Tim Hardaway Jr. Good Showings of Late
Hardaway is up over 40% owned, after being below 40% for most of the past month.
Hardaway isn't the most consistent fantasy player, but he can deliver here and there. He's been a pretty solid asset of late, scoring in double figures in three of the past four, four of the past six and six of the past nine.
He is averaging 13.4 points, 2.8 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 0.3 steals and 0.1 blocks over 25.9 minutes in the month of March. Hardaway's season averages of 13.8 points, 2.6 rebounds, 1.4 assists, 0.5 steals and 0.1 blocks are pretty similar.
He mostly just scores for his fantasy value, but there's enough there for deep-league fantasy usage at least. There's probably better fantasy players out there on the waiver wire in standard leagues to try instead.
In a pinch though, Hardaway can be streamed in some standard leagues, especially when Denver is without several players. Only Peyton Watson is on the team's injury report right now, so now isn't the time to be adding Hardaway in standard leagues - just consider him in deeper leagues.
