Fantasy Basketball Player Props for January 23: Myles Turner, Kyrie Irving, Victor Wembanyama, Paolo Bachero, De'Aaron Fox and More

Morgan identifies some NBA player props to maybe take advantage of on PrizePicks for January 23.

I’m back with another DFS fantasy basketball story.

After playing DraftKings on Tuesday and Sleeper on Wednesday, we’re moving on to PrizePicks today. I’m going to identify several players based on their point projections. We’ll again use FantasySP’s projections and defensive rankings for help in our suggestions.

Let’s get to it!

More Points than Projected

Chris Paul (5.5 points)

Paul has a line of just 5.5 points, but is projected for 10 tonight against Indiana. The Pacers are a pretty average matchup for opposing guards.

Paul has scored six or more points in six straight games. He’s failed to hit six points in nine of his 41 games. The teams haven’t met this season, but play each other back-to-back nights, so any players/picks listed here today could maybe be used again on Saturday in the next clash.

Damian Lillard (18.5 points)

Let’s try this again with Lillard - he was originally in my Wednesday story, but the team’s game was postponed. If the Bucks can make it home in time for the game, I like Lillard to go over his 18.5-point line.

He’s scored at least 19 points in eight straight games, and pretty comfortably been over the mark. Miami is a slightly below-average matchup on paper, but our projections have Lillard at 26.3 points tonight. He scored 37 points against Miami in the first regular season meeting.

Harrison Barnes (7.5 points)

Barnes is projected for 12.5 points tonight, which is comfortably over his 7.5-point line.

He’s scored eight or more points in 11 straight contests. It’s a favorable matchup on paper for Barnes.

Myles Turner (15.5 points)

Turner is projected for 17.8 points tonight, and has scored at least 16 points in three straight.

It’s a very favorable matchup for the Indiana big men, and with how Turner has played of late, I like his chances to go over here.

T.J. McConnell (4.5 points)

McConnell is projected for 8.5 points in our system tonight, which is way over his 4.5-point line. He’s scored five or more points in nine of the past 10 games.

It’s a pretty average matchup for the Indiana guards tonight. I’m trusting McConnell to connect on a few shots, and easily go over 4.5 points.

Bobby Portis (10.5 points)

Our system has Portis at 14 points tonight, which is comfortably ahead of his projection. It’s a pretty average matchup for Portis if you classify him as a center.

He’s struggled a bit of late, reaching 11 points just four times in the past nine games. Portis tallied 11 points in the last clash with Miami, and it was on a 5-for-15 shooting night. I don’t think he’ll take that many shots tonight, but he’ll be more efficient and at least hit 11 points.

Giannis Antetokounmpo (23.5 points)

This almost feels like a mistake to see Antetokounmpo’s line that low. He’s projected for 32 points tonight, and averages 31.5 points a game for the season.

Giannis has hit at least 24 points in seven straight contests. He missed the first game against Miami.

Kyrie Irving (24.5 points)

This is another case where I feel like Irving is being slighted quite a bit. He’s projected for 27 points.

He’s facing a tough OKC team, but has scored at least 25 points in three straight games, including 36 and 33 points the past two contests. Irving scored 23 points against OKC in the team’s first battle this season, then went for 17 points in the second game.

Irving shot 50% from the floor both nights, but with Luka Doncic still out and Irving riding a hot streak, I think he goes over his line tonight.

Derrick White (12.5 points)

Our system has White at 17.7 points tonight, and I really like that compared to his 12.5-point line. He’s coming off a 20-point showing, but has scored 13 or more points just twice over the past eight games.

It’s a slightly below-average matchup for the Celtics’ guards tonight, but I trust our projections here. This will be the first time that the teams have met this season.

Rui Hachimura (7.5 points)

Hachimura is set for just 7.5 points, but is projected for 13.3 tonight. He’s scored eight or more points in five straight games.

The matchup is pretty average, and I think Hachimura keeps scoring at a decent clip tonight.

Less Points than Projected

Victor Wembanyama (29 points)

It’s always risky picking against a top talent like Wembanyama, but the numbers are just not in his favor. Not only is it a tougher matchup for him, but he’s only projected for 21.3 points in our system.

Wemby hasn’t scored 29 points in any of the past seven games. He’s finished below 20 points in three of those contests, and in three of the past five. I think Wemby is going to fall short of 29 points tonight.

Paolo Banchero (25.5 points)

I’m going with another star to finish under his projected line. He’s projected for 22 points in our system and has a pretty average matchup ahead.

Since returning from a long absence, Banchero has scored 25 or less points in four of the six games. He hasn’t played Portland this season. Orlando could get Franz Wagner back for this contest, and that’s why I’d be fairly confident that Banchero scores 25 or less points.

De'Andre Hunter (19.5 points)

I do not think Hunter will reach his 19.5-point line tonight. Our system has him at 16.3 points in what’s a pretty favorable matchup for Hunter.

Hunter hasn’t hit 19 points much of late, accomplishing it just once over the past seven games. He had 22 points in the team’s first meeting, but it took an 8-for-11 shooting night to get there.

Jalen Johnson (21.5 points)

I’m sticking with the Hawks and saying Johnson struggles to reach his point projection. Our projection only has him at 14.5 points.

Johnson has not hit 21 points in five straight games, and has been at 15 or less points in three of those contests. He scored 15 points in the first meeting with Portland this season, giving me another reason to take the under.

De'Aaron Fox (23 points)

I see Fox falling short of his 23-point line tonight. Our system has him at 20.8 points, even in a very favorable matchup against Denver.

Fox hasn’t topped 23 points in any of the past four contests, and has been at or below 20 points in all those contests. Earlier this season, Fox scored 29 points against Denver, but it came in a game he took 24 shots in. I don’t see Fox nearly as involved tonight, and I think he falls short of 23 points.

DFS Recap

I made several over and under picks for Wednesday. Let’s run through them quickly before ending this article.

I had Jalen Green over 21.5 points and he thoroughly disappointed with just 10 points. He was 4-of-16 from the floor.

I took Walker Kessler to score more than 8.5 points. He went for 17 points on 8-of-10 shooting.

I took Collin Sexton over 17.5 points. He barely got there, but ended with 18 points on 7-of-15 shooting.

I had Kevon Looney over 6.5 rebounds. He finished with just two boards after leaving after nine minutes with an illness. That was just a tough break.

I went with Ausar Thompson to go over 5.5 rebounds. He started and played 24 minutes, but grabbed just one rebound. That tied a season low in rebounds for a game.

I took De’Aaron Fox to go over 5.5 assists, and of course, he finished with five.

I went with Daniel Gafford to go over 1.5 blocks. He finished with three blocks.

I had Alperen Sengun over 0.5 steals. He did not record a steal across 29 minutes.

I also mentioned several players in a big-time multipliers section. Trae Young nearly got his double-double, finishing an assist shy. Devin Booker finished four assists shy of a double-double.

Stephen Curry got a double-double - that prop was a 4.48 multiplier. Ja Morant also got a double-double, which was a 3.18 multiplier.

Jaden McDaniels did not have an assist on the night, so he did not record a first quarter assist.

Overall, it was a pretty hit-and-miss night. That’s the name of the game in a league that plays several times a week and can have games go in a number of different directions. Let’s hope we’re more successful tonight going on just point totals.
