Tigers Promoting Max Clark: What His Call-Up Means for Fantasy Baseball Managers

The Detroit Tigers are calling up highly-regarded prospect Max Clark, so let's break down what that means for fantasy baseball and in the real world.

Clark Called Up

Clark is the team's No. 1 prospect, and he's the No. 13 prospect in all of baseball, so it's a big deal.

The 21-year-old outfielder was the third overall pick back in 2023 and was expected to be called up at some point in 2026. He's just under six feet tall and weighs 205 pounds.

He has played in the minor leagues for parts of four years. Over 331 games, Clark has a .272 average and .383 on-base percentage.

Clark has 353 hits, including 63 doubles, 36 home runs and 14 triples. He has 203 RBIs, 243 runs scored, 226 walks, 74 stolen bases and 275 strikeouts to his name.

Across 90 Triple-A games this season, Clark had a .276 average and .368 OBP. He had 100 hits, including 20 doubles, 11 home runs and two triples. Clark added 42 RBIs, 65 runs scored, 50 walks, 21 stolen bases and 66 strikeouts.

Him being called up is kind of an intriguing thing, and could be interpreted a couple ways.

Detroit has struggled this season, and is considered a selling team near the trade deadline, with Tarik Skubal as the prized possession on the market. Calling Clark up could be signaling the team buying into its future and taking a step in that direction. It could also mean that the team is going all in and is going to do whatever it takes to win the AL Central title, or a Wild Card spot, in 2026.

The opportunity to get into the big league lineup is there because of a couple injuries to Detroit outfielders. Clark could stick in the big leagues the rest of the season if he's hitting well, or if the team decides to sell at the deadline.

Now I'm really intrigued to see if Detroit is going to sell or not, because this transaction muddies the waters a bunch.

Clark is worth adding in some deeper redraft leagues immediately. If he produces, get him added in more and more leagues. He could eventually work into standard leagues, and if he's producing daily, then he could eventually be owned in all redraft leagues.

Of course, those in dynasty/keeper leagues get a huge boost from this call up. You can now deploy Clark, and you should expect him in the starting lineup for as long as he's in the big leagues.

Tommy White - Athletics

White made his MLB debut on July 17, right after the All-Star break.

Over 11 games, he has picked up 14 hits. Eight of those knocks came across two games, and he has four multi-hit efforts overall - so he has five hitless appearances too.

White has no RBIs yet, but he's scored six runs. He has two doubles among the hits, plus two walks and just seven strikeouts.

It's been a solid start to the big league career of White, but consistency at the plate will be key for him getting into more fantasy leagues over time. Right now, White sits at 11% owned.

He's one to keep tabs on, but is just a deep-league fantasy asset for now.

Luis Lara - Milwaukee Brewers

Lara got called up back on July 7. He has played in 16 games since, getting 50 plate appearances.

He owns a .286 average and .380 OBP, with 12 hits and seven walks so far. Lara has five doubles and a triple among the hits, plus 10 RBIs, seven runs scored and walks, two stolen bases and only six strikeouts.

Despite some strong numbers overall, Lara is rostered in just 10% of fantasy leagues right now. Part of that is because he's at a loaded fantasy position (outfield), but part of that is him not starting daily.

Lara has started to turn a corner over the past week or so, so he's worth some deep-league adds today. He's also one to keep tabs on for a possible standard league add down the line. With not much power to his game so far, he's likely to remain a better deep-league option the rest of the way, even if he's hitting pretty well and getting on base at a strong clip.
