Dylan Cease nears return from hamstring injury as rehab assignment gets underway

Dylan Cease remains on the 15-day injured list with a left hamstring strain suffered in late May. Fortunately, his recovery is progressing quickly, as he recently commenced a minor-league rehab assignment with Triple-A Buffalo on June 4. Prior to his injury, the right-hander was anchoring the rotation for the third-place Blue Jays, who enter the week with a 32-34 record and a two-game winning streak.

Before landing on the shelf, Cease was putting up fantastic numbers, maintaining a 3.12 ERA and a 1.24 WHIP while fanning 92 batters across 60.6 innings. Our models project him to finish the year with a 3.81 ERA and 178 strikeouts, which aligns well with his elite career strikeout rates. His pre-injury dominance is entirely real, making him a major rotation stabilizer for fantasy managers once he is healthy.

Toronto faces a tough slate of matchups this week with home series against the Phillies and Yankees. However, because Cease is still on his rehab assignment, he has no scheduled starts and our models project him for zero innings.
