Fantasy Football Fallout From Stefon Diggs' Signing and Atlanta's Defensive Blow

An NFL signing prompted another fantasy football breakdown, so we'll use this article to go over some news that's happened over the past couple days.

Diggs Finally Signs

The big news is wide receiver Stefon Diggs signing with the Washington Commanders. It's a one-year deal worth up to $12 million.

Diggs is 32 years old and will be going into his 12th NFL season. This will already be his fifth team.

He has played in 161 games overall, catching 942 of his 1,344 targets for 11,504 yards and 74 touchdowns. Diggs has 170 rushing yards and a score across 35 attempts.

Diggs played with New England last season, and did pretty well over his 17 games. He was targeted 102 times, catching 85 of them for 1,013 yards and four touchdowns.

He now joins a Commanders' team looking for more offensive talent around quarterback Jayden Daniels. Diggs should be able to carve out a role, and be a pretty solid fantasy asset as a result.

Diggs could be the team's No. 2 wide receiver immediately, only behind Terry McLaurin. And it would not surprise me to see Diggs lead the team in 2026.

Luke McCaffrey is the other projected starting wideout alongside Diggs and McLaurin. Rookie Antonio Williams, Jaylin Lane and Treylon Burks are the top reserves right now, with Van Jefferson, Dyami Brown and others as additional options right now.

McLaurin was the team's clear No. 1 wideout before the signing, but really the only proven wideout on the team. Diggs should actually help McLaurin out some, as now there's another legit receiving threat for Washington.

I expect McLaurin to be a weekly starting option in all fantasy leagues, just like he has been for years. Diggs should be in the same boat, but I'd probably only feel super confident starting him early on in deeper leagues, or as a flex guy, until we see how he fits in the team's offense.

I don't see any of the other wideouts on the team being big fantasy assets after Diggs' signing. 

The team's new top tight end is Chig Okonkwo - he might be the team's third-best pass catcher this coming season, so he's a fantasy asset to keep tabs on. John Bates and Ben Sinnott are other tight end options.

In the backfield, Jacory Croskey-Merritt is expected to lead the way, with veteran Rachaad White and rookie Kaytron Allen as other options. JCM seems like the leader for now, but it could be a pretty split backfield, so any Commanders' back might top out as a flex-level option in standard leagues.

As for Daniels, the signing of Diggs boosts his fantasy value a little bit, as he's got another competent wideout to throw to now. Daniels is already a bounceback candidate, but he needs to most importantly stay healthy.

The signing boosts the Washington offense, and gives the team a better chance to make the postseason. The Commanders still have a lack of talent on the roster, but I do see them being competitive and in the playoff hunt, at least.

Falcons' Defender Done for Season

The other big news around the league is out of Atlanta. Edge rusher Jalon Walker is done for the season because of a torn ACL that he suffered in practice on Tuesday.

The 22-year-old was the 15th overall pick in 2025. Across 15 games last season, he had 36 combined tackles, 5.5 sacks, nine quarterback hits, five tackles for losses, two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery.

With him out, it will put more pressure on James Pearce Jr., another pass rusher and 2025 first-round pick. Samson Ebukam and Azeez Ojulari are a couple depth options who could help replace Walker. I wouldn't be surprised if Atlanta brings in additional help, whether that be by signing a free agent, or trading for another pass rusher.

The Atlanta defense still has some good players on it, but losing Walker is definitely a blow to the unit's outlook in 2026. Atlanta is dealing with a number of injuries to defenders, so things could be really rough early on if more starters or big-time parts of the defense cannot go to start the regular season.
