Best Fantasy Football FAAB Pickups for Shallow Leagues (10 and 12 Teams)
WR Curtis Samuel, Washington Commanders
He has been really inconsistent this season but had a massive game against the Cowboys on thanksgiving and with a lot of bye weeks coming up this weekend, Samuel at the very least can be a nice WR3 or flex play for you. His 9 catches for 100 yards were both season highs and this weekend he faces a high-scoring Miami team in a game that should feature plenty of offense. I like him for 5-8% of your remaining budget.
WR Rashee Rice, Kansas City Chiefs
Rice has also been super inconsistent this season, and what’s worse is that he has been plagued by drops recently. In Week 12, though, Rice put together the best game of his career, setting his career best in catches with eight, setting a new career high with his first 100-yard game, and scoring his fifth TD of the season. It says a lot about how much Patrick Mahomes likes him that he keeps going back to the rookie even with the constant drops. 12-16% of your remaining budget feels right.
WR Josh Downs, Indianapolis Colts
There are a lot of bye weeks this week and Downs has a good matchup against a bad Titans pass defense. Gardner Minshew may turn the ball over sometimes, but he is a gunslinger, and Downs is his second favorite target behind Michael Pittman. Minshew targeted Downs over 10 times in their Week 12 win over the Bucs and the Colts remain in the mix for an AFC Wild Card spot. Downs would be a nice consolation prize if you miss out on Rice, and you should be able to get him for 7-10% of your remaining budget.
TE Juwan Johnson, New Orleans Saints
Johnson is one of the Saints pass catchers that should see an increase in targets with Michael Thomas being injured. Other than Chris Olave, there is no reliable pass catcher for Derek Carr to go to on this offense, and both Olave Rasheed Shahid left the Week 12 game with an injury, which could open up even more targets for Johnson. He is widely owned in deeper leagues but can be found on many waiver wires in the shallower formats. This is the time to buy him and 4-6% of your remaining budget is a fair price.
Best Fantasy Football FAAB Pickups for Deep Leagues (14 and 16 Teams)
TE Tucker Kraft, Green Bay Packers
Kraft is now the starting TE for the Packers with Luke Musgrave placed on IR. Jordan Love is playing his best football right now and targeted Kraft in the red zone last week. In your deeper leagues, if you don’t have a top 10 TE, Kraft is worthy of a pickup for somewhere between 6-10% of your remaining budget.
WR Greg Dortch, Arizona Cardinals
Most weeks, Hollywood Brown and Trey McBride are going to be the top pass catchers for the Cardinals. Still, the Cards are a team that will trail in most games; they’ll have to air the ball out, and, over the past two weeks with Kyler Murray at QB, Dortch has been productive. In Week 11 he went 6/76 and in Week 12 he went 3/27 and a TD. You’ll need to spend at least 5% of your remaining budget and as much as 15% if you play in a 16-team league and the waiver wire is thin.
WR Jalin Hyatt, New York Giants
Tommy DeVito has been playing better lately at QB for the Giants, and last week he was looking Hyatt’s way. Every week it seems like the Giants have a new leading receiver, so don’t go crazy in your bids, but it’s worth noting that Hyatt was a popular late-round pick in leagues this season and he does have the potential to be a productive player for your team down the stretch. In leagues where you start three WRs, Hyatt could go for as much as 13-18% of your remaining budget.
