The Goat to Journeyman: Baker Mayfield Tabbed Bucs' Successor
Baker Mayfield is Tom Brady's successor with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The quarterback signed a one-year contract worth $8.5 million with the Bucs.
The former Cleveland Browns 2018 No. 1 pick played for the Carolina Panthers and Los Angeles Rams last season. He played a total of 12 games where he threw 17 touchdowns and 13 interceptions.
Mayfield was traded to the Panthers last summer after the Browns signed quarterback Deshaun Watson. The former Oklahoma Sooners product was released by the Panthers in December and subsequently signed with the Rams. The latter had lost the services of Matthew Stafford due to a season-ending injury.
The change in scenery and the chance to be a starter right away could be exactly what Mayfield needs to reignite his career. More importantly, with a formidable offensive line and one of the league's best wide receiver duos in the form of Mike Evans and Chris Godwin at his disposal, Mayfield is earning a legitimate chance to revive his career and help the Buccaneers get over the post-Brady era.

Fantasy Outlook of Baker Mayfield Signing
Many had speculated that the Buccaneers would sign a veteran quarterback following Tom Brady’s retirement. Mayfield immediately fit the criteria due to his resume so far in the league. While Mayfield only got a prove-your-worth deal, he will have to perform way better than his 2163 yards and 10 touchdowns with the Los Angels Rams, and the Carolina Panthers.
Also, it is not a lock that Baker will be handed the keys to the Bucs' offense. That appears to be the case, as team senior advisor Bruce Arians has been impressed by third-year rookie Kyle Trask. Mayfield and Trask will be battling it out all summer long to see who will be under center in week 1. However, with veteran wide receivers such as Evans and Godwin making plays with great decisiveness, there is a very high probability that Mayfield will find his true form once again and string together dominant performances in leading the Buccaneers' offense.
