Week 4 Wide Receiver & Tight End Fantasy Football Starts & Sits: Should You Play Romeo Doubs?
We started to try something new with Start ‘Em, Sit ‘Em this week by digging into each position more throughout the week – starting with quarterbacks and running backs – and now we’re continuing the fun with wide receivers and tight ends!
Just to set some guidelines, you’re never going to see me recommend sitting a star like Justin Jefferson. And you’re never going to see me recommend starting a stiff like Dyami Brown. Those are no-brainer decisions and not why we’re here. We’re here to dig into those decisions that are keeping you up at night. Do you bench the wide receiver or tight end you drafted in the fourth round but has been struggling in favor of a waiver wire wide receiver or tight end who has a shot to see extra targets this week? That’s what we’re here to figure out.
And with that in mind, let’s dig into some Week 4 start/sit recommendations at wide receiver:
Wide Receivers
Start ‘Em
START OF THE WEEK: Romeo Doubs, Green Bay Packers
Chris Collinsworth was comparing Doubs to Davante Adams during the Packers game last week. I’m not going to go that far, but I do think Doubs is getting close to becoming a must-start and a weekly top-30 receiver. He’s been slowly earning Aaron Rodgers’ trust (which is a hard thing to do!) and doesn’t have a lot of competition for targets other than Allen Lazard. Coming off a game in which he caught all eight of his targets for 73 yards and a touchdown, Doubs should be in your lineup against a shaky Patriots defense.
Elijah Moore, New York Jets
Moore has had a rocky start to the season, but things are looking up for him this week. To start, Zach Wilson will be back under center, and this should be a great thing for Moore as the two of them had a great rapport on the field last season. Moore also saw nine targets last week and should continue to be a big part of the Jets game plan.
Richie James Jr., New York Giants
James is a great example of a player who isn’t an elite player, but can still be very useful for fantasy purposes due to his situation. With Sterling Shepherd out for the year, James should continue to see increased opportunities for the Giants. He’s seen 17 targets through three weeks and is currently the Giants top receiver. Will that last? I don’t know. But he’s a solid flex play for now.

SIT OF THE WEEK: Allen Robinson, Los Angeles Rams
Remember in the intro when I said this article is about whether or not we should start players we took in the fourth round of drafts but are struggling? Well, Allen Robinson is the poster child for that type of decision. He’s only seen 12 targets (total) through three weeks of the season and if his name wasn’t Allen Robinson, you’d probably see him ranked outside of the top 60-70 receivers for this week. Could the Rams make an effort to get Robinson involved? Maybe. But I’d like to see at least one game of more than five targets before I trust Robinson in my lineup.
Treylon Burks, Tennessee Titans
I’ve seen a lot of Burks love on Twitter lately. And yes, his snap count rose last week. But he’s still playing in a very run-heavy offense and has only seen 13 targets all year (and just two last week). Burks likely has a very bright future, but that future is not in Week 4 of the 2022 NFL season, and I’ll be parking him on my bench this week on teams where I have better options.
Darnell Mooney, Chicago Bears
Like others, I was high on Mooney coming into the season. Man oh man, was I wrong. I’m not sure his failures are 100% his fault as the Bears just aren’t throwing the ball (Justin Fields hasn’t thrown the ball more than 17 times in a game all season). His six targets last week were promising, but Mooney belongs on your bench until the Bears can show us otherwise.

Tight end
Start ‘Em
START OF THE WEEK: Tyler Conklin, New York Jets
Conklin wasn’t on many people’s radars before the season, but he’s been one of the best tight ends to start the season. While I’m a little worried about how the switch at quarterback from Joe Flacco to Zach Wilson will affect Conklin, it’s hard to argue with his volume (eight targets per game through three weeks). Until he proves otherwise, Conklin should be started in almost all leagues.
Irv Smith, Minnesota Vikings
Smith has been a weekly conundrum for me this season. While he didn’t see any targets in Week 1, he’s been trending upwards since. I’m still a little worried about him as he hasn’t put up more than 36 yards in a game this season, but he’s seeing volume as Kirk Cousins has thrown him the ball 14 times in the past two weeks. With the absolute wasteland at tight end right now, Smith should be a top-12 tight end this week.
Sit ‘Em
SIT OF THE WEEK: Juwan Johnson, New Orleans Saints
Maybe this is me projecting, but I feel like a lot of people got burned by Juwan Johnson in Week 3. The targets were there leading up to last week’s games, but he only saw one target against the Panthers and put up a goose egg. While I think some of this has to do with Jameis Winston’s injury, there’s also just too much volatility to trust Johnson right now.
Logan Thomas, Washington Commanders
Thomas is another player who burned me last week and I just can’t go there again this week. Like Johnson, Thomas was trending upwards leading into Week 3, and like Johnson, he didn’t do much (only two catches for five yards on three targets). With the other options out there at tight end (Conklin, Smith, Tonyan), I’d sit Thomas this week.
