NFL Futures Bets: AFC Conference Championship Odds Tracker

Will Desvallees Aug 25th 2:09 PM EDT.

The AFC isn’t as wide open as it once was now that the Buffalo Bills are the clear-cut favorites to represent the conference in Super Bowl 57. The Kansas City Chiefs used to be as good, if not better than the Bills, but they lost Tyreek Hill this offseason, which should significantly dampen Kansas City’s once extremely potent offense. Still, the Chiefs are the second-best team in the conference and should make it to the AFC Conference Championship on the backs of Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce. Still, it’s hard to envision Josh Allen and Bills Mafia not finally breaking through that glass ceiling and clinching a berth in the Super Bowl. They’ve been so close each of the last few years. 2022 is the season that Buffalo finally gets the job done.

All that being said, let’s take a look at each AFC team’s odds to represent the AFC in the Super Bowl and explore why the Chiefs and Bills will ultimately meet in the AFC Conference Championship yet again, as they did in 2020.

Kansas City Chiefs Vs. Buffalo Bills Preview

Kansas City Chiefs Analysis

Before the 2022 season, Tyreek Hill had been a staple of the Kansas City Chiefs offense. However, “the Cheetah” joined the Miami Dolphins this offseason on a five-year max contract, He is now the highest-paid receiver in the NFL. While Hill’s departure from Kansas City represents a major loss to their offense, Patrick Mahomes should be just fine without him. The Chiefs brought in receivers Juju Smith-Schuster and Marquez Valdes-Scantling to fill in the hole. Reports from the Chiefs’ training camp suggest that Smith-Schuster and Mahomes are developing some nice chemistry together. Smith-Schuster missed almost the entirety of last season due to injury. Now, he is healthy on a team that needs a new No. 1 WR.

Even if the Chiefs’ receiving corps is weaker than usual heading into 2022, TE Travis Kelce earned himself a raise for this season and will continue to be Mahomes’ rock. Kelce has the most yards (5,106 receiving yards) and total touchdowns (37 touchdowns) of any tight end in football over the last five years. With Tyreek Hill out of the picture, expect Kelce to receive more targets than he did last year. He already has two of the top-10 fantasy finishes among tight ends in the history of fantasy football. We could be looking at another all-time top-10 finish from Kelse in 2022.

All in all, the Chiefs should still be in great shape heading into 2022. That being said, Sharp Football Analysis has Kansas City as being the team with the most difficult regular-season schedule heading into this year. While they should easily make it into the postseason, the Chiefs could have a few more losses than people expect in 2022. The AFC West with the Las Vegas Raiders, Los Angeles Chargers, and Denver Broncos arguably makes up the most difficult division in the AFC. This may result in a lower playoff seed than some may anticipate from such a powerhouse of a team. Still, let’s assume that Patrick Mahomes helps the Chiefs return to the AFC Championship Game in 2022. It won’t be easy but as long as Kansas City can avoid Buffalo before the final battle in the AFC, they should squeak by based on experience and out-of-this-world skills from their quarterback. At +550 odds, you are getting quite the return on your investment if you think the Chiefs can oust the Buffalo Bills in the AFC Conference battle.

Buffalo Bills Analysis

Josh Allen is the hottest quarterback in the NFL at the moment. Since entering the league, all he’s done is improve. Last season, Allen had 4,407 passing yards, 763 rushing yards, and 42 total touchdowns. Allen continues to improve while the Bills’ roster keeps getting deeper.

Buffalo added Jamison Crowder to their receiving corps to join Stefon Diggs, Gabe Davis, Isaiah McKenzie, and tight end Dawson Knox, providing Allen with yet another weapon to target and open up the field for the rest of his pass-catchers. Crowder may not be quite as reliable as Cole Beasley, who the Bills let go this season, but Crowder should fill in nicely.

The Bills also have a solid running game, with RB Devin Singletary at the forefront, though that may not last for long after their decision on draft day. Last season, Singletary produced 870 rushing yards, 228 receiving yards, and eight total touchdowns. However, the Bills selected RB James Cook out of Georgia with the No. 63 overall selection in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft. Cook should see plenty of playing time and don’t forget about Zach Moss too. The Bills have a three-headed committee in their backfield. The arrival of Cook should improve this backfield exponentially and take some of the pressure off of Allen.

Last season, the Bills made it to the AFC Championship game but fell short to the Cincinnati Bengals, 21-10. The Bills Mafia has a sour taste in their mouth after last season’s disappointing ending and they are poised to avenge their AFC Championship loss last year. The Bills are the favorite so we aren’t making any outlandish pick here. Buffalo is clearly the top dog in the AFC until proven otherwise.

Kansas City Chiefs vs. Buffalo Bills Futures Best Bet: Buffalo Bills +337

If these two teams were to meet in the AFC Championship as they did in 2020, expect the Bills to finally pull through. The Bills have added depth to their roster while the Chiefs have scrambled this offseason after losing their best playmaker in Tyreek Hill. The Chiefs have the hardest schedule in 2022 and as a result, will likely end up with a lower seed in the postseason when the time comes. The potential of not earning a first-round bye could make their postseason more exhausting.

While the Chiefs remain an AFC powerhouse, the Bills will take the 2022 AFC Championship game from them, 23-17. While the Chiefs will fight for another Super Bowl run, it is the Bills’ turn to move forward in the postseason this year.
