Fantasy Basketball Waiver Wire: Kuminga Headlines Thursday Adds
Short-term streamers and potential long-term holds to add now.
After a one-day break, I'm back with another set of fantasy basketball waiver wire options.
Here are the waiver articles from Monday and Tuesday, plus Thursday's streaming article.
Waiver wire options can be found all season on FantasySP!
Jonathan Kuminga: Coming Off Huge Debut
Kuminga is rostered in 87.61% of fantasy leagues right now - that's after a 16.79% increase today.
Kuminga was traded from Golden State to Atlanta at the trade deadline, but just played in his first game for the Hawks on Tuesday. He delivered 27 points, seven rebounds, four assists and two steals over 24 minutes off the bench.
Kuminga can be a good fantasy asset when he gets enough playing time, and that's more likely in Atlanta with a couple teammates banged up right now. Nickeil Alexander-Walker, Jalen Johnson and Zaccharie Risacher are all day-to-day with various injuries, opening more time and production for Kuminga.
Kuminga is the type of player who could emerge as a nice fantasy asset down the stretch, all he has to do is stay healthy. So while Kuminga is a big-time add today as a streaming option, he's worth holding on to for the long haul possibly.
Really, you can just keep utilizing him until his production falls off, but that might not ever come. Get him added in deeper leagues for sure, and another big game or two could get him into all standard leagues too, so don't wait too long to add Kuminga.
Cason Wallace: Elevated Role = Better Production
Wallace has been added in 13.13% of leagues, bringing his overall mark to 82.25%.
The Thunder are absolutely battered and bruised right now. Among the players on the injury report are Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Chet Holmgren, Jalen Williams, Isaiah Hartenstein, Alex Caruso, Isaiah Joe and Ajay Mitchell. That's opening time and production for others, and Wallace is one of the guys excelling of late.
Wallace has scored 20 or more points in three straight games. He's combined for 22 assists, 14 rebounds and five steals over those contests as well.
As long as OKC is beat up and missing players, Wallace has the chance to shine. When the team is closer to full health, Wallace is just a deep-league asset, as he's averaging 8.9 points, 2.6 assists, 3.2 rebounds, 2.1 steals and 0.3 blocks over 27.1 minutes a night.
He's another really good streaming option for the day, but he doesn't have the long-term outlook that Kuminga does. Wallace is more of a player to utilize now, as his production is bound to drop off as the Thunder get healthier.
Don't be afraid to add and start Wallace until OKC gets some players back, and that goes for deeper leagues or standard ones.
Javon Small: Rising Fantasy Asset for Beat-Up Squad
Small is owned in 32.11% of leagues after he was picked up in 9.73% of leagues already today.
Small is another player taking advantage of extra opportunities. On the season, he's averaging 7.6 points, 3.5 assists, 2.5 rebounds, 0.5 steals and 0.2 blocks over 16.8 minutes a game. Small has started once over his 24 appearances.
The start came in his last game, and he's been trending up of late. He's scored in double figures in four straight, and has reached double digits in six of the past seven contests. Over those seven contests, he's averaging 14.9 points, 4.4 rebounds, 3.9 assists, 1.1 steals and 0.4 blocks over 25.6 minutes a night.
It's easy to see why Small is on the rise as a fantasy asset of late. If he keeps starting or playing a healthy amount of minutes, he could stick as a good fantasy asset for the remainder of the season.
Santi Aldama, Kyle Anderson, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Brandon Clarke, Cedric Coward, Zach Edey and Ja Morant are all on the Memphis injury report. Until a few of those guys return, Small has a chance to stick as a fantasy asset.
Right now, I like adding Small in deeper leagues. He's not a must-add in those leagues, but another strong couple showings could have him owned in all those leagues. He'd then be a standard league streaming option, and he'll just keep rising if he keeps delivering.
Devin Vassell: Trending Up After Big Showings
Vasell is up 6.05% and now sits at 81.69% overall.
He has regressed a bit this season, but is still averaging 14.4 points, 3.8 rebounds, 2.4 assists, 0.8 steals and 0.4 blocks over 30.6 minutes a night. Vassell has started 43 times in his 45 overall appearances.
He's tallied 49 points, seven rebounds, six assists, two steals and a block over his past two contests, and played 32 and 36 minutes in those appearances.
The Spurs aren't missing too many big-time rotation players, so Vassell is on the rise because he's simply doing more of late. If he keeps delivering, you can expect him to be owned in most standard leagues.
If you don't believe in him long term, then now is a time to sell high on him. Vassell is capable of producing more, and maybe he will do just that down the final stretch of the season. It's up to you to decide.
