A-Rod Back to Business or Bench
Alex Rodriguez might not be the player he was 21 years ago when he entered the league, but this season he is showing that even old dogs can learn new tricks. Seemingly unhappy with being the DH, Rodriguez is showing interest in first base. Having been benched as of late A-Rod is willing to do whatever it takes to get back in.
Rodriguez's numbers are nothing to look at this season, hitting .206 with just 9 homers, he only bests Mark Teixeira who is in a slump to say the least. A-Rod has been seen fielding balls at first base as of late. The reason behind this? Flexibility. In speaking with the press, he let them know that his desire to help the team by playing any position gives Girardi more options.
Having only been DH this season, A-Rod needs more time to see how and if he can handle first base. Being in that position only 2 times so far there isn't enough proof that he can be successful. This season is a far cry from his impressive return in 2015, having hit 33 home runs. There is still a chance he can be helpful to the team, he just needs to get into a rhythm.
